3D Surface Painting in VR using Force Feedback (포스 피드백을 이용한 가상현실에서의 3차원 표면 페인팅)

  • In this paper, we propose haptic interfaces based on force feedback to provide a physical painting experience to virtual reality users. Through this system, the user can create surface-based painting holding a haptic stylus, while utilizing both visual feedback from the worn HMD and haptic feedback during painting. In particular, the haptic interfaces simulate the physical interaction between painting brush and painting, which can help to improve the spatial perception of users and compensate for visual feedback. This can reduce laborious drawing works to repeatedly paint strokes and therefore yield a better painting performance. As a result, users can experience more effective and realistic VR painting with this system.

Analysis of User Experience for the Development of Smart Golf-wear (스마트 골프웨어 개발을 위한 사용자경험 분석)

  • This study investigates and analyzes user preferences for golf wear with a sense of wear and smart function for the development of smart golf wear based on user convenience. A survey was conducted on 124 males in the age range of 40-60s that consisted of professional golfers, amateur golfers and the public with golf experience (such as major golf consumers) from August 1 to August 30, 2019 (IRB NO. 1040198-190617-HR-057-03); consequently, a 117 copies were accepted for analysis. The findings are as follows. The elbow (4.3%) of golf wear is unsatisfactory. The important part of the golf swing motion is the shoulder (39.3)>, elbow (30.8%)>, and wrist (6.8%). In addition, the unsatisfactory wearing of golf wear due to golf swing movements indicated that the shoulder or elbow area was pulled or the bottom of the top was raised during the back swing movements. The survey results on the expected discomfort when wearing smart wear are 'discomfort of obstruction when wearing' (53.8%), 'discomfort of washing' (17.1%), and 'weight of attached machine' (13.7%). Opinions such as 'Will not feel good when the sensor is attached' were investigated. The examination of the preference for golf wear equipped with smart functions indicated that a posture correction function to correct the golf swing posture is the most desired quality that is also considered important when correcting posture.

Development of Augmented Reality Service for Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje based on HoloLens 2 (홀로렌즈 2 기반의 백제 금동대향로를 위한 증강 현실 서비스 개발)

  • In this paper, we proposed an augmented reality(AR) service for the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Beakje - one of Korea's national treasures - using smart glasses. The proposed AR service was developed using Microsoft's HoloLens 2, MRTK, and Unity programs. The proposed service starts when the user wears HoloLens 2 and looks at a QR code next to the displayed the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner. Then, the proposed service visually provides users with the historical explanation of the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner and the objects in it. In particular, the proposed service augments virtual 5 musicians of the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner so that users can experience the performance culture of the Baekje era. Therefore, we can provide users with the value and meaning of the cultural heritage of the Baekje era as an expanded experience by using the virtual 5 musicians to overcome the current temporal and spatial constraints. We can confirm whether the proposed AR service is provided to users through HoloLens 2, in harmony with the Great Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje, a cultural heritage.

Correlation between knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors regarding the MERS of a student in the Department of Emergency Medical Technology (응급구조(학)과 학생의 메르스에 관한 지식, 태도 및 예방행위와의 관계)

  • This study was undertaken among students majoring in Emergency Medical Technology, to comprehend the knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors associated with MERS. This study further provides basic data for education related to MERS prevention. A total of 167 students were enrolled in the study. Evaluation of MERS education revealed a higher number of inexperienced subjects: 74 experienced(44.3%) vs. 93 inexperienced(55.7%). Assessing the attitude items for MERS revealed that "have to wear personal protective equipment when dealing with MERS patients" ranked highest (average, 4.54 ± 0.87), whereas "washed my hands more often than usual" ranked highest (average, 3.82 ± 1.06) in the prevention items for MERS. Analyzing the correlation between attitude towards MERS and preventive behavior revealed that "canceled or delayed meeting with friends, eating out, watching sports, shopping, etc." showed that, although negatively correlated, a greater attitude showed a higher level of prevention (r=-0.63, p<0.004). Taken together, results of this study indicate the necessity to develop an education program that improves the level of education and knowledge about MERS, and to impart this education systematically and repeatedly.

A Study on Core Factors and Application of Asymmetric VR Content (Asymmetric VR 콘텐츠 제작의 핵심 요인과 활용에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we propose the core factors and application of asymmetric virtual reality(VR) content in which head-mounted display(HMD) user and Non-HMD users can work together in a co-located space that can lead to various experiences and high presence. The core of the proposed asymmetric VR content is that all users are immersed in VR and participate in new experiences by reflecting widely a range of users' participation and environments, regardless of whether or not users wear the HMD. For this purpose, this study defines the role relationships between HMD user and Non-HMD users, the viewpoints provided to users, and the speech communication structure available among users. Based on this, we verified the core factors through the process of producing assistive asymmetric VR content and cooperative asymmetric VR content directly. Finally, we conducted a survey to examine the users' presence and their experience of the proposed asymmetric VR content and to analyze the application method. As a result, it was confirmed that if the purpose of asymmetric VR content and core factors between the two types of users are clearly distinguished and defined, the independent experience presented by the VR content together with perceived presence can provide a satisfactory experience to all users.

  • Since smart devices are able to efficiently provide information without barriers of time and location, they are widely utilized with advent of the hyper-connected society. Especially, the smart devices have been developed in the form of wearable devices for mutual interaction between human and objects. Smart clothing, which embeds smart devices within clothes, measures and obtains a variety of bio-signals as it is in close contact with the human bodies. Conventional smart clothing generated wearers' discomfort because they were developed by simple attachment of electronic devices to clothes. Therefore, it is highly recommended to develop novel smart clothing based on smart textiles which integrate electronic devices as parts of textiles. As smart watches are currently the most available wearable devices in the market, smart watch users were selected in this study, for the purpose of investigating core needs of wearable smart device users based on the user experience and user's sensibility. Qualitative research was performed through semi-structured interview in order to obtain detailed answers about user sensibility based on smart watch user experience. After the in-depth interview, the user's sensibility was categorized into four aspects; functional, aesthetic, social, and empirical. Sensibility adjectives and key words were assigned to each aspect and their frequency was analyzed. It was the functional aspect of sensibility that the wearable device users require the most. The results of this study will be utilized as a fundamental data to develop the smart textiles required for the next generation of smart clothing which is attracting as a future wearable device.

A Needs Assessment of People with Hearing Impairment for Hearing Augmentation Technology Development: Focusing on Risk Context Awareness Communication (청각증강 기술 개발을 위한 청각장애인의 욕구조사: 위험상황 인식 및 의사소통 분야를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the application point of hearing augmentation technology development through examining the risk context experience of people with hearing impairment and the use of assistive device used as an alternative technology. Data of 355 people with hearing impairment with official disability grading was analyzed. The results of this study are first, research participants had no experience of recognizing any sound or vibration in situations highest in the order of means of transportation, material, and nature. Especially the ratio of being unable to recognize the sound and vibration of means of transportation was high, which implies the high possibility of people with hearing impairment experiencing risk. Secondly, the risk context that people with hearing impairment will most likely to experience are highest in the order of traffic accident, pedestrian accident, and daily life at home. Thirdly, the recognition of 2G phone/smart phone, vibrating digital alarm clock, light bar, vibrating wrist watch as assistive device for risk context awareness and notification was high and the satisfaction level of 2G phone/smart phone was the highest. Fourthly, the research participants had high recognition of assistive device for communication in the order of hearing aid, smart phone, videophone, cochlear implant and 2G phone and it was found that the satisfaction level and communication improvement level was the highest using the smart phone. Lastly, for the development of hearing augmentation technology the research participants recognized the importance of portable/wear convenience, price, and motion accuracy and for notification delivery means they preferred the method of using sight(text and light). Based on the results of this study policy and practical plans for hearing augmentation technology development for people with hearing impairment in risk context are proposed.

IFX : FEM/CFD visualization system for Desktop-Immersive environment collaborative work (IFX : 데스크탑 - 몰입 환경 간 협업을 위한 FEM/CFD 가시화 시스템)

  • 최근들어 제품을 개발하는 과정 중, 디자이너와 개발자, 의사 결정권자들이 FEM, CFD 시뮬레이션 결과를 리뷰할 때에 가상현실기술을 도입하는 사례가 늘고 있다. 몰입감을 높여주는 가상현실환경은 모델에 대한 해석 결과물을 정확하고 효과적으로 분석할 수 있도록 돕는다. 데이터의 실제 크기와 같게 혹은 그보다 더 크고 자세한 이미지를 제공하는 가상현실 몰입환경은 사용자가 데스크탑 환경만을 사용할 때 경험할 수 없는 높은 사실감을 제공함으로써 사용자에게 시각적인 만족감을 줄 수 있다. 하지만 데스크탑 환경에 비해 해상도가 낮고, 어두운 곳에서 스테레오 안경이나 HMD(Head Mounted Display), Data glove등을 착용해야 하는 불편함과 멀미, 시각적인 피로, 방향감각 상실로 대표되는 가상멀미 등으로 인해 장시간 사용에 어려움이 있다. 데스트탑 환경에서의 데이터 리뷰는 고해상도 이미지 분석은 가능하지만, 입체감이 떨어지기 때문에 리뷰 데이터의 실제감이 떨어진다. 이와 같은 문제점들을 보완하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 데스크탑 환경과 가상현실 환경 간의 협업이 가능한 FEM/CFD 가시화 시스템을 제시한다. 본 시스템은 가상현실 몰입환경에서 해석 데이터를 단순히 가시화하는 것뿐만이 아니라, 데스크탑 시스템과 동일한 3D 인터페이스 구조를 제공한다. 따라서, 해석 결과 분석을 위한 동일한 post-processing 작업이 네트워크로 연결된 원격 공간의 사용자들이 사용하는 시스템들 사이에서 실시간으로 진행될 수 있다.

A Basic Study on the Fall Direction Recognition System Using Smart phone (스마트폰을 이용한 낙상 방향 검출 시스템의 기초 연구)

  • 고령화 사회로 진입하면서 노인들은 노화과정에 의한 보행능력의 감소 및 근력 약화와 같은 신체적 변화로 인해 잦은 낙상을 경험한다. 이에 따라 낙상 사고를 감지하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 낙상은 사전 예방도 중요하지만 사고 발생 후의 신속한 대처도 중요하다. 낙상을 감지하고 의료진에게 즉시 낙상정보를 제공하여 후속적 조치를 취하는 것은 사고 후 대처의 핵심이다. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰 환경에서 사용자의 낙상 후 방향을 판별하기 위해 두 가지 센서 데이터의 특정 값들을 추출하였으며, 이에 5 가지 기계학습 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 사용자는 스마트폰을 착용한 상태로 전후좌우 4 방향 낙상 실험을 진행하며 스마트폰 내에 내장된 3 축 가속도 센서와 3 축 자이로 센서값을 측정한다. 피험자 11 명을 대상으로 낙상 실험 결과, 5 가지의 분류기 중 k-NN에서 98.6%의 인식률을 나타내었다. 뽑아낸 특징 값과 분류 알고리즘은 낙상의 방향 검출에 유용한 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on Foreigners' Experience ofWearingK Fashion -Focusing on Nepalese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian Foreigners in 20s and 30s- (K 패션 착용경험에 관한 연구 -20~30대 네팔, 베트남, 몽골 외국인을 중심으로-)

  • This study aimed to investigate the perceptions and preferences of foreigners residing in Korea towards K-fashion. It sought to provide suggestions for the future development of K-fashion targeting this growing demographic. The results revealed that the longer foreigners had lived in Korea, the more positively they rated Korean fashion, shopping, and culture. The majority of foreigners purchased K-fashion items online, with popular choices including T-shirts, jackets, shirts, and jeans. Both men and women identified shoulders as a common problematic area when wearing clothing, with some issues also reported in the lumbar region. In terms of preferences, younger males (teens and twenties) were more inclined towards fads and celebrity wear compared to older males (thirties and forties). Similarly, younger females (teens and twenties) showed a higher preference for functionality and celebrity wear compared to older females (thirties and forties). These findings suggest that men tend to prioritize aesthetic factors when choosing K-fashion, while women prioritize practical considerations. To better cater to foreign consumers, suggestions for the development of K-fashion include promoting it through K-pop stars, considering dimensions related to foreigners' shoulders when designing top items, diversifying colors, sizes, and patterns, and providing English versions of online shopping platforms.
