Optical-waveguide Phase Modulators Based on High-refractive-index Fluorinated Polyimide (고굴절률 불화폴리이미드를 이용한 광도파로 위상변조기 제작 및 특성 분석)

  • Fluorinated polyimide has excellent light transmittance and a high optical refractive index, and is useful for producing optical-waveguide phase modulators with low optical loss and low electric power consumption. In this work, an optical-waveguide phase modulator is designed and fabricated based on a high-refractive-index fluorinated polyimide, and its characteristics are measured. An efficient protocol for characterizing the loss components of the optical waveguide is proposed, and the propagation loss of the fabricated polyimide optical waveguide is confirmed to be 0.9 dB/cm. The phase modulator requires 9.1 mW of power for phase change of π, and the response time is 290 μs, which is improved by tenfold compared to a previous demonstration of polymeric phase modulators.

Study on the Accumulation of Iron and Manganese in Relation to the Morphological Characteristics of Paddy Soils (답토양(沓土壤)의 형태적(形態的) 특징(特徵)에 따른 철(鐵) 및 망간의 이동집적(移動集積)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the translocation-illuviation status of iron and manganese, which are striking phenomena in paddy soils, in relation to its morphological characteristics, and to find out a method to identify illuvial layer of iron quantitatively. Determination of active iron and easily reducible manganese content in surface soils of lowland paddy (266 samples) in Korea were conducted. The examination has been made on relationship between morphological, physico-chemical properties of the representative paddy soils (9 series) and iron and manganese content of their horizons. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The poorer the drainage, the higher concentration of active iron and easily reducible manganese were found, and under same drainage condition, the more the sand, the lower the content of them. 2. Irrespective of soil texture and drainage, highly signignificant positive correlation was found between the contents of active iron ($\hat{Y}$) and clay plus silt in surface soils. $$\hat{Y}=0.3929+(0.05352\;X\;clay%)+(0.0001023\;X\;silt%){\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;I$$ No correlation, however, was found between clay content and easily reducible manganese concentration. 3. Significant positive correlation was obtained between active iron ($\hat{Y}$) and total iron (x) content in each profiles of all soil series. Obtained regression equation is as follows; $$\hat{Y}=0.361x-0.480(r=0.651^{**}){\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;{\ldots}\;II$$ On the other hand, easily reducible manganese concentration had a tendency to increase, not significantly, with increasing total manganese concentration. 4. Accumulation of iron and manganese generally can be found in paddy soils, but distinct accumulation was found under moderately well drained fine loamy and clay soils, while surface accumulation occurred under poor drainage without regard to soil texture. 5. Profile description or determination of active iron in each horizon were found to be insufficient to designate illuvial layer of iron. Therefore, identification of illuvial layer of iron based on the ratio of total iron and active iron, and concentration of active iron estimated by the content of clay plus silt (Equation 1 above) was thought to be reasonable. Also, manganese accumulation layer would be estimated by total manganese and easily reducible manganese content and their ratio.

  • In this paper, we present the flow aggregation method and the FLTC(flow lasting time control) algorithm to reduce the number of flows and solve the scalability problem in high speed IP switching networks. The flow aggregation based on the destination address could reduce the total number of flows, improve the label efficiency, and increase the total amount of the switched packets. The FLTC algorithm also eliminates the waste of label by deleting the flow binding efficiently. With the traces of real Internet traffics, we evaluate the performance of these schemes by simulation. The label efficiency, the average number of label used, and the percentage of packets switched and the number of packets switched are used as performance measures for this simulation.

  • As the circuit density of VLSI grows and its performance improves, delay fault testing of VLSI becomes very important. Delay faults in a circuit can be categorized into two classes, gate delay faults and path delay faults. This paper proposed two methods in dynamic memory usage in the path delay fault simulation. The first method is similar to that used in concurrent fault simulation for stuck-at faults and the second method reduces dynamic memory usage by not inserting a fault descriptor into the fault list when its value is X. The second method, called Implicit-X method, showed superior performance in both dynamic memory usage and simulation time than the first method, called Concurrent-Simulation-Like method.

  • In this paper, the proposed shallow trench isolation structures for high threshold voltage for very large scale and ultra high voltage integrated circuits MOSFET were simulated. Physically based models of hot-carrier stress and dielectric enhanced field of thermal damage have been incorporated into a TCAD tool with the aim of investigating the electrical degradation in integrated devices over an extended range of stress biases and ambient temperatures. As a simulation results, shallow trench structure were intended to be electric functions of passive, as device dimensions shrink, the electrical characteristics influence of proposed STI structures on the transistor applications become stronger the potential difference electric field and saturation threshold voltage.

Synthesis method of elemental images from Kinect images for space 3D image (공간 3D 영상디스플레이를 위한 Kinect 영상의 요소 영상 변환방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a synthesis method of elemental images from Kinect images for 3D integral imaging display. Since RGB images and depth image obtained from Kinect are not able to display 3D images in integral imaging system, we need transform the elemental images in integral imaging display. To do so, we synthesize the elemental images based on the geometric optics mapping from the depth plane images obtained from RGB image and depth image. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, we carry out the preliminary experiments using the two person object and present the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we propose a nonlinear 3D image correlator using computational reconstruction of 3D images based on integral imaging. In the proposed method, the elemental images for reference 3D object and target 3D object are recorded through the lens array. The recorded elemental images are reconstructed as reference plane image and target plane images using the computational integral imaging reconstruction algorithm and the nonolinear correlation between them is performed for object recognition. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, the preliminary experiments are carried out and the experimental results are presented compared with the conventional results.

  • Due to the high density of integration in current integrated circuit layouts, circuit elements must be designed to minimize the effect of parasitic elements and thereby minimize the factors which can degrade circuit performance. Thus, before making a chip, circuit designers should check whether the extracted netlist is correct, and verify from a simulation whether the circuit performance satisfies the design specifications. In this paper, we propose a new block disassembly technique which can extract the geometric parameters of stacked MOSFETs and the distributed RCs of layout blocks. After applying this to the layout of a folded-cascode CMOS operational amplifier, we verified the connectivity and the effect of the components by simulating the extracted netlist with HSPICE.

  • Antenna switch module(ASM) for quad-band was developed. This module was integrated by RFIPD(RF integrated passive device) and transistor switch instead of LTCC-type device using low pass filters, diodes and passive elements in RF front end module for cellular phone. This module leads to low cost and miniaturization(The area is $5{\times}5\;mm$ and the thickness is 0.8 mm). The insertion loss and the return loss of each band were averagely measured as 1.0 dB(insertion loss), 15.1 dB(GSM/EGSM return loss) and 19 dB(DCS/PCS return loss), respectively.

  • In this paper, the resonance characteristics of zigzag wire dipole antennas are first analyzed by the method of moment(MOM) for shortening the space occupation length of straight wire dipole antenna Considering the shortening effect the integrated zigzag dipole antennas with the simplified microstrip feed are designed. Since the integration gives rise to discontinuities due to antenna line width with abrupt bend angles, the compensation by the chamfer is applied. Futhermore the integrated parasitic zigzag lines are properly attached to both sides of substrate for compensation of the effect of the dielectric substrate, hence improving the resonance characteristic. The design results at UHF and ISM band are verified with experiments.
