  • Spatial distribution analysis of industrial locations plays a very important role in the establishment of relevant spatial policies and plans. The first thing to consider in this analysis is what analysis indicators and spatial units are used, because the interpretation of the analysis results may vary depending on the analysis indicators and the spatial units. Therefore, this study first examines various industrial integration indicators considering spatial autocorrelation and suggests the classification of regional types of industrial aggregation through the combination of related indicators. And then, this paper aims to empirically analyze the root industry by presenting a methodology for analyzing industrial integration by various spatial units such as individual locations, grids, and administrative districts. The results of the empirical analysis show that the grid in the spatial unit can be analyzed in more detail than the administrative unit. In addition, it is expected to overcome the limitations such as differences in interpretation that may occur due to the setting of spatial units. In the classification of regional types, the south-eastern region of Ulsan, Busan, and Changwon, and the western region of the SMA of Incheon, Hwaseong, and Ansan were analyzed as the industrial cluster type.

  • This study traces the growth and changes in the spatial distribution and characteristics of media cluster in Seoul by focusing on the co-evolution of film and TV production. To identify the spatial distribution and aggregation of film and broadcast TV production, we measure their spatial auto-correlation based on Moran's I and LISA, using the data from the Census on Establishments of the National Statistical Office. In addition, the eleven semi-structured interviews conducted with workers in the media industries, such as film crews and TV drama producers, help to clarify the complexity and dynamics of diverse factors that affect spatial distribution of media cluster. This multi-method study shows the increasing polycentricity of media cluster in the last decade. Gangnam, Mapo, Yeouido, Gangseo-Yeongdeungpo, and Seongsu have emerged as key hubs for media industries, particularly in light of changes in the transportation system and the real estate market. The finding indicates the co-evolution of film and broadcast TV production, demonstrating how the characteristics of the creative industry and metropolitan changes are intertwined with each other in shaping the geographical pattern of the media cluster.

  • This study has attempted to analyze the spatial structure of industrial agglomerations with elaborated spatial econometric techniques. First of all, spatial patterns and structures of industrial agglomerations in Korea show a multi-polar spatial pattern of industrial agglomeration, Major industries from industrial agglomerations in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, part of the Chungcheong Area and Dongnam Area. Second, as some industrial agglomerations show an agglomerative pattern beyond a regionally based-administrative jurisdiction, the effects of agglomeration seem to be produced across regionally based-administrative jurisdictions. Finally, it can be considered that industrial agglomerations have generally been produced by spatial divisions of labor in which the functions of conception and execution are separated from each other. According to this results, in designing regional innovation systems, their spatial coverage should draw upon an extended region with a few adjacent provinces, and there is a need to form networked clusters in order to sufficiently capitalize upon the spatial spillovers of agglomerations.

  • In the early stage of industrial development, most of software companies were agglomerated at the CBD(Central Business Districts) in Seoul. However, the spatial distribution pattern of Korean Software industry has been changed according to the propagation of broadband, the change in rents, the governmental policy for industrial districts. In this research, using the software year book at 1997 and 2007, the emerging new pattern was analyzed using spatial clustering analysis. As a results of research, the spatial distribution was expanded in morphological changes. However, it was found that there was not a significant difference in a degree of accumulation. In the aspect of behavioral movement of companies, they tend to be relocated from the CBD to urban fringes and their movement is related to the product life cycle in selecting the clustered place.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the spatial externalities of agglomeration economy of manufacturing has been changed or not, from 1991 to 2005. To find this spatial SUR model was used to consider covariance of each equation and it was estimated by 3SLS. This paper found that spatial externalities has been decreased and there is economy of scale in same sector. As a result, we can conclude that there is industrial specialization in region whereas interregional linkage are weaken. This finding supports the desirability of creating supra-regional agencies promoting interregional linkage because supra-regional agencies can internalize spatial externality of agglomeration economy.

  • Urban spatial structure is closely related to the spatial distribution of urban economic activities. The spatial distribution pattern is no more than an aggregated expression of the location and/or relocation behavior of individual firms and establishments. In this respect, it is important to identify and examine the factors that affect the spatial behavior of individual firms for a more comprehensive understanding of urban space. Agglomeration economies are one of the most prominent urban economic phenomena in the modern metropolitan area. Most firms in an urban space seek external economies through the spatial clustering of their activities. Agglomeration economies feature prominently in the analysis of urban economic structure across urban areas. While the agglomeration economies between cities focus at the macro-scale of analysis, such economies within any given city focus more on the micro geographical scale. There have been a number of researches on agglomeration economies, among which there are relatively few approaches based on an intra-urban context. This proper explores the agglomeration economies at the micro scale and tries to reseal the spatial realization of the agglomeration economies within and between sectors. Three sectors are considered in the analysis; manufacturing, retail and service. The model is based on simultaneous equation systems combined with spatially weighted variables and estimated by the KRP estimators.

  • While several recent studies have investigated the spatial distribution of entrepreneurship within the Seoul metropolitan area, they have not thoroughly examined the relationship between the industrial composition and spatial distribution of entrepreneurial clusters. To address this gap, this study initially identified entrepreneurial clusters through hotspot analysis using Getis-Ord Gi* with venture capital investment data from 2021. Subsequently, to analyze the industrial composition of the identified clusters, we measured not only their industrial diversity and specialization, but also the share of software and non-software industries. Additionally, we examined the government policies related to the formation of the clusters. As a result, we identified fourteen prominent entrepreneurial clusters within the Seoul metro area and revealed that the clusters located closer to the city centers exhibited higher levels of industrial diversity and a greater share of software industries. Conversely, clusters situated farther from the city centers demonstrated a higher share of non-software industries. Furthermore, we found that government policies affect the industrial specialization of suburban clusters. Nevertheless, we observed several exceptions that diverged from the general trends due to policy interventions. These findings underscore that formulating policies for entrepreneurial clusters in metropolitan areas should be based on these insights.

  • Synthetic aperture integral imaging is one of promising 3D imaging techniques to capture the high-resolution elemental images using multiple cameras. In this paper, we propose a method of displaying 3D images in space using the synthetic aperture integral imaging technique. Since the elemental images captured from SAII cannot be directly used to display 3D images in an integral imaging display system, we first extract the depth map from elemental images and then transform them to novel elemental images for 3D image display. The newly generated elemental images are displayed on a display panel to generate 3D images in space. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments using a 3D toy object and present the experimental results.
