  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate whether the correlational reasoning activities could improve middle school students' correlational reasoning abilities. The subjects were 8th grade students, and the correlational reasoning activities of the CASE(cognitive acceleration through science education) program was intervened to the experimental group(n=111) during science class while usual science instruction was given to the control group(n=55). The correlational reasoning test was administered before and after the intervention. The pre-test results showed that most of subjects performed poorly in correlation problems and no significant differences were found between the two groups. In the post-test, the experimental group showed enhanced performance while the control group did not. Therefore it can be concluded that CASE program activities help the students to improve correlational reasoning ability. However, the proportions of students gave correct response were not so high: 27% for the multiple-choice item and about 6% for the essay-type items.

  • In this study, the effects of grouping by extraversion and introversion in paired think-aloud problem solving using a four-stage problem-solving strategy emphasizing planning and checking stages were investigated. Prior to the instructions, the students' extraversion/introversion in three high school classes (N=87) were examined, and those classes were randomly assigned to the homogeneous, the heterogeneous, and the control groups. The test scores of the two treatment groups were significantly higher than those of the control group in the problem-solving ability. However, there were no significant differences in learning difficulty and self-efficacy. Although there were no significant differences between the scores of two treatment groups in the subcategories of the perception of treatment, the test scores of extroverts were significantly higher than those of introverts in the perception of performing listener's role, the preference to problem solving strategy, and the preference to paired think-aloud problem solving.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the workday leisure time of dual-income fathers and mothers with preschool children. Data were gathered from the Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys from 2004(y1) and 2019(y2) (n=2,697). Life time was composed of three types(inevitable time, compulsory time, and leisure time) and leisure time was categorized into 11 activities(voluntarism, participation, social relationships, religion, rituals, culture and tourism, sports, game and play, media, rest, and others) to investigate gender differences and time effects. The major results were as follows: First, both working fathers and mothers with preschool children spent less inevitable time, more compulsory time, and less leisure time, than other adult group. Second, fathers spent more time on 10 leisure activities except religion in y1, and on all activities than mothers in y2. In y2, less time on three activities(social relationships, rituals, and media) for both fathers and mothers, less time on religion for mothers only, more time on two activities(participation, game and play) for both groups were spent than y1. Third, in the regression analysis of fathers' and mothers' leisure time on three leisure activities(sports, game and play, and media) with a distinct pattern from leisure time for adult group between y1 and y2, socioeconomic variables and lifetime variables showed different effects by gender and waves. Based on the results, family policy and programs to improve the work-life balances of working fathers and mothers discussed.

  • This paper analyzed about gender difference in the achievement of underachievers of high school students while learning using technology. Participants were composed of 67 underachievers on first grade in high school located in a metropolitan city. That had never used a mathematics educational calculator before. Target participants were divided into two groups: experiment group that studied activity papers with a CAS calculator. And control group that studied the same activity papers using only paper-and-pencil. The content of the activity papers for the two groups was the same, but the structure differed. The two groups completed mathematics achievement tests both before and after the activity papers. The results are that find out no difference of the mathematics achievement between boys and girls in each group, and that the mathematics achievement of boys in experiment group are better than one of boys in control group, and also girls.

  • This is an exploratory study examining factors associated with awareness of the National Long Term Care Insurance in Korea. The researchers also examined the differences in factors based on their age, between the middle-aged group(45-64 years of age) and the elderly group(65 years and older). The 6th wave of Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA) was used for secondary data analysis. Results indicated that for the middle-aged, gender, volunteer participation, ADL, IADL, and depression were related to their awareness of the long term care insurance. However, for the elderly, social capital factors were significantly related to their awareness of the insurance. Age and depression were also significant factors associated with the awareness level of the long term care insurance among the elderly. Based on the findings, implications for social welfare policy are discussed.

  • This study aims to analyze influences of self-perceived health, participation in social activities on life satisfaction and mediating effect of participation in social activities of the elderly by age group. For this, Structural Equation Model(SEM) was implemented by using data of the 6th wave of KLoSA with 2,106 young-olds and 2,219 old-olds. The results are as follows: The young-old elderly had higher level of self-perceived health, higher participation in social activities, and higher life satisfaction than the old-old elderly, and the mediating effect of participation in social activities was founded only in the young-old elderly. As a result of multi-group analysis, the influence of self-perceived health on life satisfaction was confirmed by no difference between both groups and the influence of self-perceived health on the participation in social activities was relatively higher in the old-old elderly. In the path of participation in social activities on the life satisfaction, the young-old elderly were found to have a significant effect. Through above results, the intervention plan considering the differences between groups was discussed in order to improve the elderly's life satisfaction.

  • This study is intended to look into the effects of children's forest math game activities on their understanding of number and space concept. To achieve this, an evaluation was carried out to 20 4-year-old children in each group - experimental group and control group - by an evaluation sheet after forest math game activities during a total of 16 sessions 4 times a week for 4 weeks. The findings are as follows. First, children's forest math game activities had an effect on their understanding of number and space concept. Second, the difference between experimental group and control group showed that the experimental group received higher evaluation in the classifying and order finding items than the control group. It was confirmed that classifying and order finding in the forest math game were factors to help children's mathematical problem-understanding abilities. This implies that their forest math game activities have a positive effect on their mathematical problem-understanding abilities. Consequently, active forest math game activities for children are needed to help them understand the concept of number in the process of classifying task objects and solving tasks in order.

  • This study was conducted to explore the effects of students' problem solving ability according to the level of structuring of curriculum tasks in PBL activities. The study was conducted on 60 college students in curriculum classes. Problem solving ability was measured at the beginning of the semester. And after the midterm exam, PBL activities were conducted. 30 experimental groups performed unstructured tasks. 30 comparison groups performed semi-structured problems. After the task was completed, problem solving ability was measured at the end of the semester. Collected data were analyzed using ANCOVA. As a result, it was verified that the experimental group had a statistically significant improvement in information collection, evaluation, and feedback level than the comparative group.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the difference of corporate social responsibility(hereinafter referred to as "CSR") effects on SME's depending on the level of business risk perception. For this aim, we divided the analysis target SEM's into two groups according to the level of business risk perception and examine whether there is any difference in CSR effects through t-test and the test of the structural model invariance across the groups. As a results, the difference of CSR activities between the two groups occurred in the communication and strategy. In terms of CSR effects, there was a gap in the financial performance.
