The Concept and Characteristics of Career and Vocational Education for Students with Severe and Multiple Disabilities (중도·중복장애학생 진로·직업교육의 개념 및 특성에 대한 문헌 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze research on career and vocational education for students with severe and multiple disabilities and to examine the concept and characteristics of career and vocational education for students with severe and multiple disabilities. A total of 16 related studies were selected. Researchers analyzed the related studies based on general and in contents characteristics. In the results, the amount of topic-related studies were not enough. Most of the research utilized literature review and had students with severe and multiple disabilities as major research participants. The career and vocational education for students with severe and multiple disabilities puts emphasis on the living areas of daily, personal, community, and leisure, and is practiced based on specific vocation-related skills and interpersonal communication-related skills. The career and vocational education for students with severe and multiple disabilities was not fully practiced based on the individual needs of the students, and they encountered challenges in having jobs after graduation. In discussion, the research proposed theoretical reform of the career and vocational education for students with severe and multiple disabilities, reorganization toward proper curriculum, improving professionality of teachers, the collaboration between schools and families, and the career and vocational education that is wired with local community service institutions.

  • In the past society, it was possible for parents to provide career guidance at home and career education without professional education courses and knowledge about career education at school since the simple job and the slow pace of social change. However, in modern society, the profession itself becomes complicated, and professional functions and knowledge are required in the profession, and the job world is changed and also a lot of jobs will disappear. This change has made it difficult to establish the value of work and then career education has become very important and urgent. In this paper we develop a career education app for elementary school students and then examine the pedagogical effect of career education app on career education. We applied our proposed course to an elementary school in Seoul. In the course, totally eight hours of classes were offered to the 5-6th graders of an elementary class. As a result, students who took part in the class have a better understanding of the job and also the satisfaction level of the course was also very high.

The Development of a Competence Model for Career and Vocational Education for Middle School principles (중학교 학교관리자의 진로직업교육에 관한 역량모델 개발)

  • This study is to develop a competence model for school principals that provides effective career and vocational education (CVE) at middle schools. This model can be used as an indicator for identifying the expertise levels of principals in CVE and to help them develop the necessary skills. Research methods included literature review, basic research, the Delphi technique, analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and surveying. The results were as follows. The competence model for CVE for middle school principals consisted of three competence groups, nine competence elements, and 67-item behavior indicators. First, the three competence groups included the competence to build a school system for CVE, the competence to support CVE at school, and the competence to create a school environment for CVE. Competence to support CVE at school turned out to be most important in the AHP analysis. Second, competence elements included goal management, performance management, the creation of educational culture, support for educational activities, support for school curriculum, support for students, human resources management, resource management and community management. According to the AHP analysis, support for school curriculum was the most significant among the nine competence elements. Third, the behavior indicators were identified items in three areas: 18 items for individual propensity, 18 items for knowledge, and 31 items for performance.

  • To survive in the highly competitive environment, a vocational education institution must offer its students an attractive system of competency based vocational education. A first-term freshman at university and college should also be allowed to adjust the course selection Early exposure within one or more fields of study creates a high level of enthusiasm which helps students maintain their motivation. It also helps students decide if course selection is right for career choice and they should be provided a large number of diverse occupational opportunities later In this paper, we discuss how to activate the vocational education. Also we developed vocational guidance program for course selection through the subject for vocational guidance and the learning map for learning plan. This program was assessed through the survey on opinions of freshman.

Art and Career Convergence Class for Career Recognition - Through drawing a Neighborhood Job Map - (진로인식을 위한 미술과 진로 융합 수업 -동네직업지도 그리기를 통하여-)

  • We have developed art and career convergence class for career recognition through drawing a neighborhood job map. Thus, we want to expand the students' career recognition. 3 Classes were conducted in 16 elementary school students from 5th to 6th. Through pre & post-questionnaire, and the interviews with the students' work, job recognition with job value and job prejudice, self-understanding and career attitude were analyzed. As follows. First, students' job recognition was expanded. The ability to identify the needs, values and purposes of jobs has improved. Changes in job values that all jobs are worth have occurred and job bias has changed. Second, the career attitude changed on the basis of self-understanding. Thus, in the context of deciding the job demanded by the society rather than the student's will, art and career convergence class was effective in career recognition.

  • 지식기반사회에 있어서는 종래부터 사용되어 오던 직업교육의 개념 설정과 교육의 방향이 바뀌어야 한다. 이 연구에서는 직업교육, 기술교육, 진로교육, 전문교육, 공학교육 등의 의미를 살펴보고, 전문대학과 대학 수준에서의 직업교육에 관한 교육과정을 살펴본 후, 그 개선점과 나아갈 방향에 대한 탐색을 하였다 이 논문에서 사용한 연구 방법으로는 자료 분석에 의한 문헌 연구(literature research) 방법이다.

Impacts of Career Education by Vocational Cards for School Children on the Career Development of the male and female in Elementary School (초등학생용 직업카드를 활용한 진로교육이 남.여 초등학생의 진로발달에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of career education utilizing vocational cards for school children on the career development of the male and female in elementary school who were in the career awareness stage, which was the rudimentary career development stage. The subjects in this study were 32(15 boys and 17 girls) students in one of seven fifth-grade classes in 'Angolpo' elementary school located in the city of J, South Gyeong-sang Province. Career education was provided to them by employing vocational cards for school children in six sessions for three weeks, twice a week, 40 to 45 minutes each. The major findings of the study were as follows; (l)the career education that utilized vocational cards for school children had a positive effect on developing the career development of the elementary schoolers. (2)the career education that utilized vocational cards for school children had a positive effect on developing the career development of the elementary school boys. (3)the career education that utilized vocational cards for school children had a positive effect on developing the career development of the elementary school girls. The above-mentioned findings illustrated that the career education utilizing vocational cards for school children was effective at stepping up the career development of the male and female in elementary school.

An Exploratory Study on the Life Career Education in Home Economics Education across the life span (가정교과에서 '생활과 연계된' 생애 관점의 진로교육 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out how career education has been positioned in secondary school home economics education, and to clarify the identity of career education as one part of home economics education. Furthermore, this study tries to give alternative teaching-learning strategies for life career education across the life span. It deals with home economics curricular and journals. It also analyses the 21 sorts of home economics textbooks and one career and vocation textbook in secondary school, which are supposed to be based on the newly revised 2007 curriculum. As a research method this study takes a qualitative approach. As follows are the results of this study. First, career education has been positioned as one part of home economics education. Second, both career and vocation education and home economics education have dealt with the contents related to career such as self-understanding, career-exploring, deciding-making related to career, career-designing. However, career and vocation education has focused on 'vacational career', whereas home economics education has focused on 'life career' across the life span. Third, this study proposed three alternative teaching-learning strategies for life career education across the life span.

The Influence of Career Barriers Perceived by Unemployed Married Women on Career Preparation Behaviors. (미취업 기혼여성이 지각하는 진로장벽이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to help prepare basic data which is required for married women's vocation career education through analyzing the influence of career barriers perceived by unemployed married women on career preparation behaviors. Research subjects of this study are following. First, how are career barriers perceived by unemployed married women? Second, how are the career preparation behaviors levels of unemployed married women? Third, how is the influence of career barriers perceived by unemployed married women on career preparation behaviors? The summary of this study results are following. First, married women perceive career barriers highly in 'restriction of employment', 'discrimination', and 'child rearing environment' among 7 subordinate factors. Second, married women's average on career preparation behavior level is 3.06. When comparing with preceeding researches which analyzed career preparation behaviors levels of university students, married women's career preparation behaviors levels are relatively higher. Third, there are negative correlations between career barriers and career preparation behaviors perceived by married women. Furthermore, 'preparation/skill lack' and 'child rearing environment' factors among 7 subordinate factors of career barriers brought out negative effects on career preparation behaviors. 'Restriction of employment' factor, however, gives positive effects on career preparation behaviors. It showed that 7 subordinate factors of career barriers include 14% of career preparation behaviors.

Policy and Case Study Analysis of University Career Education in Developed Countries: Focusing on UK, USA, and Singapore (주요 선진국의 대학 진로교육 정책 및 사례 비교: 영국·미국·싱가포르를 중심으로)

  • In order to respond to rapid change in career world and future society, there has been need to strengthen the competitiveness of higher education institutions and career education system in universities. The article discusses an exemplary case studies of career education that being held in universities of developed countries such as, the United Kingdom(UK), the United States(USA) and Singapore. According to the analysis, in the UK, there has been a gradual interference by the British government; in the US, states respectively establish an educational policies and laws, as a result, it has quite a strong local government style. On the other hand, in the Singapore, as the majority of the universities are national university, the Government leads in establishing career education policy. As a result, this article aims to explore policies of career education in higher education institution in developed countries and provide an implication for Korean national career education.
