Several mental health factors were investigated by the Insomnia Severity Index, Severity of somatic symptoms, Impact of Event Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, Resilience Scale, Alcohol Dependent Screening Scale, and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale Depression Scale and Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Results : Among the mental health variables, the relationship between insomnia and somatization varies significantly depending on types of work. It was reported that the first aid team was significantly higher than the fire suppression and rescue team. Post-traumatic stress, depression and drinking also differ significantly depending on types of work. The first aid team reported more posttraumatic stress than the fire suppression team and more depressed mood than the rescue team. The administration part had more alcohol consumption than the fire suppression or first aid team. Resilience was significantly higher in the rescue team than the first aid team. No significant differences between the types of work about stress and suicide risks. Insomnia, stress, and post-traumatic stress were significant predictors of somatization among firefighters. Above all, insomnia was significant mental health variable affecting somatization. Conclusions : Various mental health factors were different according to the types of work in firefighters. The First aid team was more vulnerable to mental health variables such as insomnia and somatization than other divisions. Insomnia is the most important cause of somatization in firefighters, so it is recommended that they be treated for insomnia and to prepare institutional policies.

  • This study constructed a prediction model based on covariance structure to identify the causal relationship between job stress, fatigue, burnout, and job satisfaction on turnover intention in nurses working in general hospitals. The study subjects were 648 nurses at a general hospital in D city. Data collection was surveyed by using self-administered questionnaires structured during the period from November 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. As a result, the level of turnover intention was significantly higher in the group showing higher job stress, fatigue, and burnout and significantly higher in the group showing lower job satisfaction. The turnover intention of subjects showed a significant positive correlation with job stress, fatigue, and burnout but showed a negative correlation with job satisfaction. As a result of covariance structure analysis, job stress had greater influence on turnover intention than fatigue, burnout, and job satisfaction. Higher job stress, fatigue, and burnout and lower job satisfaction were associated with increased turnover intention. The results of this study show that the turnover intention of general hospital nurses is significantly related to job stress, fatigue, burnout, and job satisfaction. In particular, job stress had a greater effect on turnover than fatigue, burnout, and job satisfaction. Therefore, in order to lower the turnover intention of general hospital nurses, it is necessary to seek ways to mitigate job stress.

  • This study is a descriptive research to determine the mediating effect of Positive Psychological Capital on the relationship between Job Stress and Retention Intention among nurses working at blood centers in the metropolitan area. Data were collected from 167 nurses using a structured questionnaire between May 2021 and April 2022, and analyzed by SPSS ver.25. General characteristics were analyzed through frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The relationship between Job Stress and Retention Intention was analyzed using independent samples t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. Hypotheses were tested using hierarchical multiple regression analysis and PROCESS macro model 4. The results substantiated the hypotheses: Hypothesis 1 proposed that higher Retention Intention and Positive Psychological Capital were associated with lower Job Stress. Hypothesis 2 suggested that Positive Psychological Capital significantly partially mediates the relationship between Retention Intention and Job Stress. To promote Retention Intention among blood center nurses, it is crucial to implement human resource management systems aimed at alleviating Job Stress and enhancing Positive Psychological Capital. Specifically, enhancing Positive Psychological Capital within blood centers is particularly significant. This study contributes empirical evidence necessary for efficient personnel management and competency enhancement programs to reduce Job Stress, thereby enhancing the quality of nursing care among blood center nurses. Furthermore, it is recommended to develop intervention programs for Positive Psychological Capital to enhance Retention Intention and reduce Job Stress among blood center nurses.
