  • The study was carried out to determine the frequency distribution of trees by diameter classes according to the method of Bruce and Reineke's alignment with the data of pitch pine (Pinus rigida Miller) and Italian poplar (Populus euramericana Guinier) which are prepared for the purpose of yield table construction. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. All through the tree species studied, when their diameters were larger, their distribution range became wider, while the percentage of their distribution frequency became lesser. 2. As for frequency percentage of trees in an average D.B.H. of stands, it became smaller when average D.B.H. of the stand is larger: the percentage of pitch pine stand is 36.2 and that of Italian poplaris 29.0. 3. In case of smaller D.B.H. under the average, the larger their D.B.H. became, the lesser the cumulative frequency percentages became.

  • The aim of the study was to investigate the diameter and base curve changes of soft contact lens by protein deposition. Soft contact lenses were soaked in artificial tear or protein solution which had the same composition with tear for 2min, 10min, 30min, 1hr, 3hr, 6hr, 12hr, and 24hr. Diameter and base curve changes of soft contact lenses were examined by using the high speed camera(Fastcam ultima 1024). The longer the soaking time of soft contact lenses in the artificial tear, the diameter and base curve changes of soft contact lenses was more increased. In the case of soft contact lenses adsorbed only protein, the similar pattern was shown and the diameter and base curve were decreased. However, the influence of calcium ion was found to be less than that of protein. These results suggest that the tear protein causes the diameter and base curve decrease of soft contact lens, which might be related to the discomfort after soft contact lens wearing.

  • Large studs were suggested not only for the design of steel-concrete composite bridges with simplified sections but also for the shear connection in precast decks requiring uniform distribution of shear pockets. Based on the push-out test results on studs with diameters of more than 25 mm, partial composite beams with 40%-degree shear connection were fabricated, and static tests were performed. The ultimate strength and horizontal shear load redistribution of partial composite beams, which have parameters of stud shank diameters and distribution, were evaluated, and group failure in the shear span was observed. Since the flexural strength of composite beams are dependent on the strength of their shear connection, the strength of the stud connection was estimated and it showed considerably higher shear strength. From the load-slip curves, the sufficient ductility and load redistribution of large studs were confirmed. Uniformly distributed large studs can provide proper ultimate behavior of composite beams.

  • recently, a new hypercube-like interconnection network, the Z-cube, was proposed. The Z-cube retains most good topological properties, however, its node degree is 3/4 of hypercube's one. Considering hardware implementations, the Z-cube is a good alternative to the hypercube. In this paper, we obtained the diameter, fault diameter and the average distance between two nodes to evaluate the communication performance of the Z-cube. The recursive structure, the shortest path between two nodes I Z-cube and recurrence relation on the average distance were deduced, and node disjoint path was introduced. Although it is generally expected that the communication performance in an interconnection network with reduced node degree falls as much as that, this paper shows that the Z-cube's diameter is the same as the hypercube's one and the average distance between two nodes in Z-cube is about 1.125 times the average distance between two nodes in the hypercube and the fault diameter of Z-cube ranges approximately from 1.4times to 1.7times the fault diameter of the hypercube.

  • Model pile tests, using a calibration chamber in which the stress state and the relative density can be controlled, were performed in order to study the effects of pile diameter on the plugging rate and bearing capacity of open-ended pile. The model piles used in the test series were devised so that the bearing capacity of an open-ended pile could be measured out into three components. The test results showed that fully plugging depth of an open -ended pile increased with increase in pile diameter and soil density. Moreover, it was found that unit plug capacity decreased with increase in pile diameter, though the penetration ratio or plugging rate of piles was constant. However, the existing formulae for estimation of plug capacity give plug capacity which is constant or increased with increase in pile diameter, when penetration ratio or plugging rate of piles is equal. Thus, it is proposed that the effect of pile diameter as well as plugging rate on bearing capacity of pile must be considered in plug capacity estimation.

  • To characterize the root strength changes of Pinus densiflora by elapsed years after forest fire, we measured and analyzed the tensile force and strength of the roots using the universal testing machine for 4 years. The deterioration rate of the root strength was higher in small diameter class than that in large diameter class. Especially, the deterioration was highest of the root strength at the second year in all surveyed diameter classes and the mean deterioration rate of the root strength was 61% by that time. The tensile strength based on the simulation by ordinary differential equations deteriorated more than 50% in all diameter classes within 2 years after forest fire.

  • Fetal cerebellum is grow depending on the gestational age, measurement of transverse cerebellar diameter(TCD) is being used import indicator of fetal growth prediction in clinical. In this study, the subjects were normal pregnant women 20~37 week of gestation, and the volume scan was conducted on the 340 subjects. The research reports was indicated by regression curve the growth of fetal TCD in accordance with the gestational age. It got to the value of the results from a linear regression equation. Measurement fetal TCD using 3D US was statistically significant(p<0.001) and useful in the prediction of gestational age. TCD increases with gestational age can also distinguish between the normal fetal and prediction of accurate gestational age of fetal growth retardation. If the basic data of the present study, ongoing research is performed, the TCD using by 3D US are expected to be usefully applied in the correct prediction gestational age.

  • To estimate optimal tree diameter and height growth function in Pinus thunbergii stands with site index of 12 class, quoted from two linear models of linear transformation(1) and linear transformation (2) and four non-linear models of exponential, Gompertz, Chapman-Richards, and Weibull etc.. Analyzed correlation among the estimated tree diameter and height by these function models, and observed diameter and height growth were compared. In the results of tree diameter and height growth estimation by stand age, non-linear models showed better appropriation than linear model and Chapman-Richards model was most fitted for tree height growth but few, if any, differences among their nonlinear models. Therefore, it is consider to be much more study about non-linear model to estimate tree diameter and height growth in the actual stands hereafter.

  • An experimental study was performed to understand spray characteristics of the V type rotating fuel nozzle with orifice diameters by using high speed rotational system. The experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotational system, fuel injection system and acrylic case. The droplet size and velocity were measured by PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, droplet diameters are reduced with increasing orifice diameter and the optimum injection orifice diameter is 2.6 mm. When increasing orifice diameter over than 2.6 mm, droplet diameter is not decreased with increasing orifice diameter. This is due to the irregular distribution of the liquid sheet around the inner surface of injection orifice.
