This study examined the spatial and temporal variation of dissolved inorganic radiocarbon in the East Sea. Five vertical profiles of radiocarbon values were obtained from samples collected in 1999 in three basins (Japan Basin, Ulleung Basin, Yamato Basin) of the East Sea. Radiocarbon values decreased from 63- 85‰ at the surface to about -50‰ with increasing depth (up to 2,000 m) and were nearly constant in the layer deeper than 2,000 m in all basins. Radiocarbon values did not show significant basin-to-basin differences in the surface and the bottom layers. In the intermediate layer (200-2,000 m), however, they decreased in the order of Japan Basin > Ulleung Basin > Yamato Basin, which is consistent with the suggested circulation pattern in the intermediate layer of the East Sea. Radiocarbon was found to have decreased at ~2%/year in the surface water of the East Sea. In contrast, in the interior of the East Sea, radiocarbon values have increased with time in all three basins. In the Central Water, the annual increase rate was about 3.3‰, which is faster than the rates in the Deep and Bottom Waters. The radiocarbon in the Deep and Bottom Waters had increased until mid-1990s, after which time it has been almost constant.

Hyochang Park was the royal tomb of the Joseon Dynasty, where were the tombs of Prince Munhyo and his birth mother Ui-bin Seong, king Soonjo's concubine Sook-Ui Park and Youngon princess by a concubine. It was upgraded from Hyochang tomb to Hyochangwon at King Gojong. The Japanese imperialism destroyed Hyochangwon and made it into a park, also moved to Seosamneung in 1944. After returning from Chongqing after liberation, Kimgu made the independence movement tomb in the empty space of Hyochang Park. There were 3 martyr's tomb, provisional government figure tomb. Kimgu himself was buried in Hyochang Park after his death in 1949. During the regime of Rhee Seung-man and Park Jeong-hee, there was a constant attempt to change the identity of Hyochang Park, where independence activists were buried. Hyochang Stadium, Wonhyo buddhist priest's Statue and North Korean Anti-Communist Tower were established. After democratization in 1987, the independence activist tomb of Hyochang Park began to gain meaning again. The 6th Republic succeeded the provisional government in the Constitution, also the national cemetery and independent park of Hyochang Park were attempted but the social consensus could not be achieved. This study focuses on the historical middle layer and symbolism of Hyochang Park and aims to contribute to social consensus on the identity of Hyochang Park by making a storytelling on the theme of 'Independence Road'.

One of the most important issues in mathematics education is to restore the educational foundation of school mathematics, which requires fundamental discussions about 'What are the reasons for teaching mathematics?'. This study begins with the problematic that mathematics education is generally pursued as an instrumental know-ledge, which is useful to solve everyday problems or develop scientific technology. This common notion cannot be overcome as long as the mathematics education is viewed as bringing up the learners' ability to work out practical problems. In this paper we discuss the value of mathematics education reflecting on the theory of 'two fold structure of mind'. And we examine the ideas pursued by mathematics educators analyzing the educational theory of Plato and Froebel. Furthermore, we review the mathematics educational theory of F. Klein, an educator who led the reformation of mathematics education in the early 20th century and established the basic modern philosophy and curriculum of mathematics education. In particular, reflecting on the 'two fold structure of mind,' we reexamine his mathematics educational theory in the aspect of the mind cultivation so as to elucidate his ideas more clearly. Moreover, for the more deep discussion about Klein's thoughts on the mathematics education, his viewpoint on tile teaching of 'functional thinking' for the mind cultivation is reexamined based on the research results found in the developments of mathematics education after Klein. As the result we show that under the current mathematics education, which regards mathematics as a practical tools for solving everyday problems and an essential device for developing science and technology, there is a more important value for cultivating the human mind, and argue that mathematics education should contribute to the mind cultivation by emphasizing such an educational value.

The non-float midwater pair trawl was effective in the mouth opening and control of the working depth in midwater and bottom. In contrast, we confirmed that it was difficult to keep the net at surface above 30 m of the depth by means of the full scale experiment in the field and the model test in the circulation water channel. To solve this problem, the kites were attached to the head rope of the non-float midwater pair trawl. In this study, four kinds of the model experiments were carried out with the purpose of applying the kite to the korean midwater pair trawl. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The working depth of the non-float midwater pair trawl with the kite was shallower than that of the proto type and non-float type. The working depth of the kite type was approximately 20m with 2 kites and about 5m with 4 kites under 4.0 knot. The working depth was almost constant but the depth of the head rope sank approximately 15m and 10m according to the increase in the front weight and the wing-end weight, respectively. The changing aspect of the working depth was constant, but the depth of the head rope sank approximately 22m according to the increase in the lower warp length (dL). 2. The hydrodynamic resistance of the kite type was almost increased in a linear form in accordance with the flow speed increase from 2.0 to 5.0 knot. The increasing grate of the hydrodynamic resistance tended to increase in accordance with the increase in flow speed. The hydrodynamic resistance of the kite type was larger approximately 5~10 ton larger than that of the non-float type and the proto type. The hydrodynamic resistance of the kite type increased approximately 3ton with the changing of the front weight from 1.40 to 3.50 ton and approximately 4 ton with the changing of the wing-end weight from 0 to 1.11 ton and approximately 5.5 ton with the changing lower warp length (dL) from 0 to 40 m, respectively. 3. The net height of the kite type was increased approximately 10 m with the change in the kite area from $2,270mm^2$ to 4,540 $\textrm{mm}^2$. The net height of the kite type was aproximately 50 m and 30 m larger than that of the proto type and the non-float type, respectively. The changed aspect of the net width was approximately 5m with the variation of the flow speed from 2.0 to 5.0 knot. 4. The filtering volume of the kite type was larger than that of the proto type and the non-float type by 28%, 34% at 2.0 knot of the flow speed and 42%, 41% at 3.0 knot, and 62%, 45% at 4.0 knot, and 74%, 54% at 5.0knot, respectively. The optimal towing speed was approximately 3.0 knot for the proto type and was over 4.0 knot for the non-float type, and the optimal towing speed reached 5.0 knot for the kite type. 5. The opening efficiency of the kite type was approximately 50% and 25% larger than that of the proto type and the non-float type, respectively.
A real-time monitoring and modeling system (RTMMS) for rainfall-induced turbidity flow, which is one of the major obstacles for sustainable use of reservoir water resources, is under development. As a prediction model for the RTMMS, a laterally integrated two-dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model, CE-QUAL-W2 was tested by simulating the temperature stratification, density flow regimes, and temporal and spatial distributions of turbidity in a reservoir. The inflow water temperature and turbidity measured every hour during the flood season of 2004 were used as the boundary conditions. The monitoring data showed that inflow water temperature drop by 5 to $10^{\circ}C$ during rainfall events in summer, and consequently resulted in the development of density flow regimes such as plunge flow and interflow in the reservoir. The model showed relatively satisfactory performance in replicating the water temperature profiles and turbidity distributions, although considerable discrepancies were partially detected between observed and simulated results. The model was either very efficient in computation as the CPU run time to simulate the whole flood season took only 4 minutes with a Pentium 4(CPU 2.0GHz) desktop computer, which is essentially requited for real-time modeling of turbidity plume.
This paper is a preliminary study of architectural characteristics of Jangdae (general's podium), which shows one of the technical changes in fortification of Joseon Dynasty. As a facility for commands of generals and training for officers and men, it was located inside a fortress. Although it is not certain when the first Jangdae was built, the number of them dramatically increased around 18th century. Since the top priority function of the Jangdae was the prospect, it was installed at the hilly spot with open architecture. In addition, the open structure of Eupseong fortress towers on the riverside banks could simultaneously offer the functions as viewing around and Jangdae. Since Jangdae was also a place for military drills and reviews of soldiers, a wide podium was positioned at the front to muster the soldiers. This feature was standardized in the space organization of Jangdae in Joseon, and a mere podium was installed unless the topographic restrictions allows enough space. On the other hand, as a place for a commander, the hierarchy of the Jangdae was revealed through a variety of architectural characteristics. The hierarchy was assigned to the commander's space through the altitude difference, and diverse ornaments were added to show a sense of class. The floor plan of the Jangdae building can be largely categorized into rectangle and square, and the typical sizes of the former are $5{\times}4$ Kans (traditional measuring unit between two columns) and $3{\times}2$ Kans. Out of these two types, buildings of $5{\times}4$ Kans were found in flat land and eupseong fortresses with large space, and the relatively smaller ones of $3{\times}2$ Kans in mountain fortresses. All buildings of square floor plan had $3{\times}3$ Kans style, and the center Kan was twice wider than the side Kan to make the central space wide. It seems that the purpose was to secure the interior space of the upper story because the center Kan accounts for the floor area of the upper story. Some Jangdae's had internal story to form overhead space. The multi-roofed tower style with eaves attached to the upper and lower story is found exclusively in Jangdae. The buildings shows the Onkanmulim style which extends Naejinju (inner column) of the lower story to be the Byeonju (outer column) of the upper story, and the log-framed floor in the upper floor was structured by inserting the Changbang (connecting beam) between the Naejinju's and joining the log frames. In addition, the towers in eupseong fortresses had log-framed floor in the upper floor by setting up the high Nuhaju (column underneath a roof) and joining Cheongbang to the upper part of the column while it cannot be regarded as multi-roofed because only the upper part has a roof.

The authors carried out an experiment to determine the vertical opening of the midwater trawl, which is the same used in the former experiment in this series of studies. To determine the vertical opening of otter board and front weight, three fish finders were used. A 200 KHz fish finder set on board the research vessel was used to sound the depth of water. A transmitter of 50 KHz fish finder was set through the shoe plate of otter board to determine the height of otter board from the sea bed, and a transmitter of another 50 KHz fish finder was set downwardly on the net pendant right before the front weight to determine the height of weight from the sea bed. The depth of otter board and weight were calculated by subtract the height of those from the depth of water, respectively. To determine the vertical opening of mouth, a transmitter of net recorder was set on the head rope and the vertical opening of that to ground rope was directly read on the recording paper. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The rate of the depth of otter board to the length of warp was in the range of 0.44 to 0.25, and the depth was linearly shoaled about 5m per 0.1m/sec of the towing speed or per 20rpm of the main engine. The rate of the observed depth to the calculated depth of otter board was in the range of 0.92 to 0.080 with a decreasing tendancy in accordance with the increase of towing speed. 2. The depth of head rope was 2 to 3m deeper than that of otter board, and the vertical opening of net mouth was in the range of 22 to 19m, with a decreasing tendancy in accordance with the increase of towing speed, 3. The difference of depth between front weight and otter board was about 20m and 22m respectively in the length of warp 100m and 150m without distinct change in accordance with the towing speed. The depth of front weight was 2 to 3m shallower than that of ground rope. 4. The changing range of depth of head rope according to the revolution of main engine was about 4m per 20rpm.

The shape of the net mouth in a midwater trawl gear is examined by measuring towing speed, gear resistance, the width of otter boards, net height, and so on of a full-scale gear in operation. In addition, a mathematical model is developed to predict shapes of the net mouth. In the model, shapes of head, ground, side ropes, which governs the shape of net mouth, are assumed as a catenary. The validity of the model is tested with observations. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The warp tension and vertical opening of the gear is highly dependent to the towing speed. The depth of the gear and width of otter boards are very sensitive to the variations of the warp length. 2. The model results indicate that the wing tip of the head and side ropes is reduced and the vertical distances of the head and side ropes sagged to the back with increasing towing speed. 3. The results of comparing the measured net height with calculated side rope height were satisfying. 4. The results of analysis showed the vertical axis of the net mouth was decreased and the width of the net mouth was little changed when the towing speed increased.

Key factors that ensure competitiveness of modular unit include consistent high quality and connection condition that ensures high structural performance while minimizing the overall scale of the on-site process. However, it is difficult to evaluate the structural performance of the connection of modular unit, and its structural analysis and design method can be different depending on the connection to its development, which affects the seismic performance of its final design. In particular, securing the seismic performance is the key to designing modular systems of mid-to-high-rise structure. In this paper, therefore, the seismic performance of the modular system with bracket-typed fully restrained moment connections according to stiffness and the shapes of various connection members was evaluated through experimental and analytical methods. To verify the seismic performance, a cyclic loading test of the connection joint of the proposed modular system was conducted. As a result of this study, theoretical values and experimental results were compared with the initial stiffness, hysteresis behavior and maximum bending moment of the modular system. Also, the connection joint was modeled, using the commercial program ANSYS, which was then followed by finite element analysis of the system. According to the results of the experiment, the maximum resisting force of the proposed connection exceeded the theoretical parameters, which indicated that a rigid joint structural performance could be secured. These results almost satisfied the criteria for connection bending strength of special moment frame listed on KBC2016.
