The determination of precise geoid model for the Jeju island is needed to minimize the effect of different vertical datums. This study describes the development of gravimetric geoid model referred to GRS80 reference surface for the area of Jeju island. We used ECM96 up to degree and order 360 as a reference model and added the terrain and the residual gravity effects to the reference model. After then 17 GPS/Levelling data were used to correct the difference between the GPS/Levelling-derived geoid heights and gravimetric geoid heights. The least square collocation was applied to derive the correction and the grid values. The final precise geoid model(Jeju_GEOID07) that consist of $0.75'{\times}1'$(about $1.4km{\times}1.5km)$ grid interval was obtained in the region of $33^{\circ}{\sim}33.8^{\circ}N$ and $125.8^{\circ}{\sim}127.2^{\circ}E$. Concerning this works, the precise geoid for the Korean peninsula should be determined by integrating the different geoid developed for the peninsula and Jeju island. It is also need to integrate the vertical datum using long-term tide and GPS observations.

It can be classified in various methods to get the geoidal heights. It can be achieved geometric geoidal heights if we do GPS surveying in leveling point. The aims of this paper are calculation of geometric geoidal heights using GPS/leveling data in study area and evaluation of the global and local geoid models in and around Korean peninsula. For this study, study area was selected in the leveling line from Kunsan to Chonju city and GPS surveying was accomplished in the leveling line. And, also spherical harmonic analysis was made on the three global geopotential models, OSU91A, EGM96, EGM96m under same condition. Then the differences were calculated between geometric geoidal heights and geoidal heights of 3 geopotential models, KOGD2002 which was Korean gravimetric geoid model. The results shows that EGM96m is the best model because the differences between geoidal heights of E6M96m and geometric geoidal heights of GPS/Leveling data appear the smallest value among them.
The magnitudes of wall thrust acting on quay walls can easily vary due to the development of excess pore pressure in backfill. In this research, a new displacement model was proposed to predict the displacement of the wall considering such magnitude variations of the wall thrust. This model is based on Newmark sliding block concept. The magnitude variation of the wall thrust is modelled by varying the magnitude of yield acceleration. The parametric study was performed to analyze the effects of input parameters on the seismic displacement of the wall, and the validity of this model was verified by comparing its predicted displacements with those of Is shaking table tests.

The purpose of this paper is to establish the optimum reference field as testing some geopotential model, gravity data and GPS data. We have to decide a best fitting geopotential model as a reference surface for establishing the optimum geoid solutions. We conduct some tests on the Korean Peninsula gravity data to establish which of the model would be prove to be the best one. Three ways were used to compare the geopotential coefficient solutions. One of the tests is to compare the residual gravity anomaly remaining after the anomaly computed from the geopotential model has been subtracted from the "observed" gravity anomaly. The second method is a comparison of several geopotential solutions in terms of differences in gravity anomalies and quasi-geoid undulations. The third method is a comparison between the undulation obtained by GPS and the corresponding undulation from each geopotential model. The result showed that OSU91A model is a best fitting model as a reference in the region of Korean Peninsula.Peninsula.

Earth geopotential models were used to determine the reference surface in geoid modelling and many global geopotential models were developed after 1980's. Nowadays, EGM96 and EIGEN-GL04C geopotential models have been most widely used in the world, but what so called EGM2008 earth geopotential model were developed in 2008 by NGA. In this paper, we intended to compare the results of spherical harmonic analyses using the three geopotential model, EGM96, EIGEN-GL04C and EGM2008. So, the spherical harmonic analyses were performed up to degree and order 360(in case of EGM2008, up to degree and order 720, 1440, 2190 in addition), on each $1'{\times}1'$grid point in and around Korean peninsula. Geometric geoid were calculated at 464 GPS/leveling points for accuracy evaluation and then the results of three geopotential models were compared to geometric geoid. The results show that the accuracy of EGM2008 is improved considerablely compared to EGM96 and EIGEN-GL04C and it is possible to calculate geoidal heights within 14cm standard deviation and 5.5cm standard deviation after LSC fitting in and around Korean peninsula using EGM2008 geopotential model.

The new gravity field combination models are expected to improve the knowledge of the Earth's global gravity field. This study evaluates six global gravity field models derived from gravimetry and altimetry surface data in a comparison with ground truth in South Korea. For calculating a more accurate estimate of the geoid heights from the height anomalies, the terrain corrections due to the terrain masses over geoid have considered, the model for the topographic correction is a spherical harmonic expansion of the ETOPO2 DTM model. Geoid heights obtained from GPS and levelling in land area of South Korea are compared with those from the EGMs. The results show that EIGEN-CG03C EGM and EIGEN-GL04C EGM displayed the nearest results to GPS/leveling, and also confirmed the importance of terrain correction for geoid height in case of the uneven topography.

The topographic effect is one of the most important component in the solution of the geodetic boundary value problem (geodetic BVP). Therefore, topographic effect should be considered properly for developing the precise geoid model, especially for the area where contains many mountains like Korea. The selection of gravity reduction method in the context of the precise geoid determination depends on the magnitude of its indirect effect, the smoothness and magnitude of the reduced gravity anomalies, and their related geophysical interpretation. In this study, Korean digital elevation model with 100m resolution was constructed and topographic effect was calculated by three reduction methods as like Helmert condensation method and RTM method and Airy-isostatic reduction method. Through the analysis of computation results, we can find that RTM reduction method is the best optimal method and the results shows that gravity anomaly and indirect effect of geoidal height are $0.660{\pm}13.009mGal$, $-0.004{\pm}0.131m$ respectively and it is the most gentle slow of the three methods. Through this study, it was found that the RTM method is better suitable for calculating topographic effect precisely in context of precise geoid determination in Korea than other reduction methods.

The accuracy of the upward continuation is assessed through the gravity modeling using an ultra-high degree spherical harmonic expansion. The difficulties in the numerical calculation of Legendre function with ultra-high degree, underflow and/or overflow, is successfully resolved in 128 bit calculation scheme. Using the generated Legendre function, the gravity anomaly with spatial resolution of $1'{\times}1'$ on the geoid is calculated. The generated gravity anomaly is degraded and extracted with various noise levels and data intervals, then upward continuation is applied to each data sets. The comparison between the upward continued gravity disturbances and the directly calculated from the spherical harmonics showed that the accuracy on the direct method was significantly better than that of Poisson method. In addition, it is verified that the denser and less noised gravity data on the geoid generates better gravity disturbance vectors at an altitude. Especially, it is found that the gravity noise level less than 5mGal, and the data interval less than 2arcmin is necessary for next generation precision INS navigation which requires the accuracy of 5mGal or better at an altitude.

This paper describes an accuracy analysis of newly developed gravimetric geoid and an improvement of developed geoid using GPS/Levelling data. We developed the KGEOID05 model corrected with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the least squares collocation technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 373 GPS stations were used to model the correction term. The standard deviation of KGEOID05 is about 11 cm and it indicates that we can be determined accurate heights ($2{\sim}3\;cm$) when we made precise modelling using KGEOID05 and a few GPS measurements for the local area.
In this paper, we propose a spatial filtering scheme using factorial kriging, one of geostatistical filtering methodin order to separate regional and residual gravity anomaly. This scheme is based on the assumption that regional anomalies have longer distance relation and residual anomalies have effected on smaller range. We decomposed gravity anomalies intotwo variogram models with long and short effectiveranges by means of factorial kriging. And decomposed variogram models produced the regional and residual anomalies. This algorithm was examined using by a synthetic gravity data, and applied to a real microgravity data to figure out abandoned mineshaft.
