  • This paper is proposed to design the new heat-sink apparatus for improving the heat transfer characteristics in the power LED chip, and results of the operation characteristics were discussed. The core design is that the soldering through-hole on the FR-4 PCB board is formed to the effective heat transfer. That is directly filled with Ag-nano materials, which shows the high thermal conductivity. The heat transfer medium consisting of Ag-nano materials is classified into two structures. Mediums are called as the heat slug and the multi-pin in this work. The heat of the high temperature generated from the LED chip was directly transferred to the heat slug of the one large size. And the accumulated heat from the heat slug was quickly dissipated by the medium of the multi-pin, which is the same body with the heat slug. This multi-pin was designed for the multi-dissipation of heat by increasing the surface areas with a little pins. Subsequently, the speed of the heat transfer with this new heat-sink apparatus is three times faster than the conventional heat-sink. Therefore, the efficiency of the illuminating light will be improved by adapting this new heat-sink apparatus in the large area's LED.

  • Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a device to produce a electricity from the oxidation of organic materials using microorganism. Recently many researchers have been studying MFC which is focused as regeneration energy source. Previews studies have focused every each factor that influence the production of electric power. However they didn't study a lot about the correlation among the factors. In order to improve the MFC, we analysed the factors which influencing the generation of electric power of MFC. Also, we made a new compartment to verify the correlations among the factors efficiently. Based on the result obtained from the experiments in the laboratory, we analysed the factors and we suggested a new concept of waste water treatment system to produce electrical energy during the treatment of waste water.

  • The application of a large power transformer into a power distribution system was inevitable due to the increase of power demand and distributed generation. However, the decrease of the power transformer‘s impedance causes the short-circuit current of the power distribution system to increase and thus, the higher short-circuit current exceeds the cut-off ratings of the protective devices such as a circuit breaker. To solve these problems, several countermeasures have been proposed to protect the power system effectively from the higher fault current and the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been expected to be the promising countermeasure. However, the current limiting effect of SFCL including its bus voltage drop compensation depends on SFCL's application location in a distributed power system. In this paper, the current limiting and the bus-voltage drop compensating characteristics of the SFCL applied into a power distribution system were studied. In addition, the quench and the recovery characteristics of the SFCLs in each location of the power distribution system were compared each other.

  • The insulation aging characteristics and structural analysis test were performed to analyze the correlations among the insulation deterioration, diagnostic results and the breakdown strength for the underground power cables. From the results of the degree of crosslinking test, hot-oil test etc., it could be confirmed that there were no manufacturing defects in the power cables under test. From the results of the water tree test and chemical structural analysis, it could be confirmed that the aging status of cable under test were very poor, especially for B-Phase and the degree of aging was increased in the orders of A, C and B-phase. From the above results, it could be concluded that the insulation aging characteristic analysis results were well consistent with the diagnostic and breakdown test results, and also confirmed that the diagnostic system under consideration was successful to discriminate the bad cables which is likely to cause cable system failure.

  • This paper, which consists of two parts, dealt with the parameter tuning of the power system stabilizer for a 612[MVA] thermal power plant in KEPCO system and its validation in field test. In Part 1 of the paper, the selection of parameters such as lead-lag time constants for phase compensation, system gain was optimized by using linear & eigenvalue analyses and they were verified through the time-domain transient stability analysis. In part 2, the performance of PSS was finally verified by the generator's on-line field test. Through the comparisons of simulation results and measured data before and after tuning of the PSS, the models of generator and its controllers including AVR, Governor and PSS used in the simulation are validated and confirmed.

  • This paper describes the simulation of a phase splitter for the design of Chireix Outphasing power amplifier. Phase splitter separate the input signal with $0[^{\circ}]$ into the signal with $+90[^{\circ}]$ and $-90[^{\circ}]$ Chireix Outphasing power amplifier get a linearized output from the signal amplifying and combining the separated signal with the phase of $+90[^{\circ}]$ and $-90[^{\circ}]$ of the phase splitter. phase splitter is the core device when designing Chireix Outphasing power amplifier. It is very difficult to design phase splitter with the difference of $90[^{\circ}]$. This phase splitter is used to design the difference of $180[^{\circ}]((90[^{\circ}]+{\alpha}),\;-(90[^{\circ}])+{\alpha}))$ using simulation tool and a differential amplifier.

  • Cost reduction requires lowering number of power devices used in the converter driving SRM. This is quite feasible in SRM drive systems than in other drive systems. This paper deals with analysis and simulation of a novel two phase SRM. A novel two phase SRM has high performance, self-starling capability, high efficiency, and low manufacturing cost. Additionally, the stator back iron does not experience any flux reversal as the flux is in the same direction whether phase A or B is excited leading to a greater reduction in core losses. The magnetic analysis and design considerations of the novel two phase SRM have been obtained by the finite element analysis (FEM).

  • The field of induction motor is magnetized and demagnetized for each reversal of the current. This field component of the motor accounts for most of the reactive component of inductive load. Reactive power needs to sustain the electromagnetic field required for the induction motor to operate. Power factor of induction motor is usually low and power factor correction needs. Power factor becomes low by the effect of the reduction operation of load capacity. In most cases, Capacitor capacity for the power factor correction should be complied with the recommendation by the motor capacity. But Capacitor value for power factor correction can't change during the normal operation. In this paper, we analyzed characteristics of power and power factor changing by load fluctuation of low-voltage small size induction motor and show that lower power factor correction's parameter of existing recommendation should be revised by new value.

  • In terms of electrical safety, environmental impact assessment and revision of domestic regulation are needed for the electric facilities. In this paper, risk of electric facilities is assessed by the spot measures and analysis in dust generation area. Adhesion dust in a surface of insulated materials cause electrical accidents. In a mechanism of these accidents, when the dust lie on electric facilities, a leakage current is flowed and the surface of insulated material is carbonized. Hereafter, electrical fire is generated due to Joule's heat. As the results, dusts are found in protection devices or panel board and sampled dusts vary in sampled amounts and conductivity severally. For the most part, sodium is detected but zinc and calcium are detected in case of reclaimed rubber factory by the ICP-AES(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy). In a sewerage, the ingredients such as sodium, magnesium, iron, calcium, aluminium, etc are detected uniformly. So that, results of the spot measures and analysis of dusts are become the important data for the assessment of electrical hazard in dust generation area.

  • This paper deals with the dielectric characteristics of $SF_6$ gas gap stressed by $\pm$1.2/44[$mutextrm{s}$] non-oscillating impulse and $\pm$0.4[$mutextrm{s}$]/1.14[MHz] oscillating impulse voltages in the presence of a needle-shape metallic particle in gas-insulated switchgear(GIS). Breakdown voltage-time (V-t) and breakdown voltage-gas pressure (V-p) characteristics were investigated and discussed. The experiments were carried out under highly inhomogeneous field geometry with a needle protrusion whose length and radius are 10[mm] and 0.5[mm], respectively. The gas pressure ranges from 0.1 to 0.5[㎫]. As a result, it was found that the electrical breakdown for both the positive and negative polarity develops with steplike pulses in leader mechanism, When subjected to the positive oscillating impulse voltage, the minimum breakdown voltages appeared in all the gas pressure ranges and the V-t curves have a pronounced upturning at short times to breakdown and give a little dependence of the gas pressure. On the other hand, in the case of the negative polarity the dependence of the V-t and V-p characteristics on the wave shape of the applied voltages is known to be appreciable.
