  • Congestion may take place in the ATM network because of high-speed cell transmission features, and cell delay and loss also can be caused by unexpected traffic variation. Thus. traffic control mechanisms are needed. One of them to decrease congestion is the cell shaping. This paper proposes a hybrid type cell shaper composed of a Leaky Bucket with token pool, EWMA with time window, and a spacing control buffer. The simulator BONeS with the ON/OFF traffic source model evaluates the performance of the proposed cell shaping method. Simulation results show that the cell shaping concerning the respective source traffics is adapted to and then controlled on the mean bit rate.

  • This paper describes synchronization concept and algorithm of the reverse DS-SS/TDMA control channel to handle satellite terminals which are distributed through the mission area. Military satellite control channel should have ECCM capabilities and handle more than several hundreds satcom terminals simultaneously. DS-SS/TDMA control channel can satisfy these demand but it spend much synchronization time. Proposed algorithm insert the preamble which is divided with several short sub bins prior to control data and use the parallel matched filtering searcher for each sub bin. As a result of the test, proposed algorithm can acquire most of control channel packet successfully within several milliseconds in severe jamming environment.

  • In this paper, we propose a practical hybrid transport error control scheme to provide SVC video streaming service over error-prone IP networks. Many error control mechanisms for various video coding standards have been proposed in the literature. However, there is little research result which can be practically applicable to the multilayered coding structure of SVC(the scalable extension of H.264/AVC). We present a new hybrid transport error control scheme that efficiently combines layered Forward Error Correction(FEC) and Automatic Repeat Request(ARQ) for better packet-loss resilience. In the proposed hybrid error control, we adopt ACK-based ARQ instead of NACK-based ARQ to maximize throughput which is the amount of effective data packets delivered over a physical link per time unit. In order to prove the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid error control scheme, we adopt NIST-Net network emulator which is a general-purpose tool for emulating performance dynamics in IP networks. It is shown by simulations over the NIST-Net that the proposed hybrid error control scheme shows improved packet-loss resilience even with much less number of overhead packets compared to various conventional error control schemes.

  • In this paper, a wavelet packet transform method is proposed for improving the altitude control performance of quadrotor UAV using an ultrasonic rangefinder. A ground tests are conducted using an ultrasonic rangefinder that is much used for vertical takeoff and landing. An ultrasonic rangefinder suffers from signal's spike due to specular reflectance and acoustic noise. The occurred spikes in short time span need to be analyzed at both sides time and frequency domain. The analyzed spikes of the ultrasonic rangefinder using a wavelet packet transform. Compared with the discrete wavelet transform, the wavelet packet decomposition can obtain more abundant time-frequency localization information, so it is more suitable for analyzing and processing ultrasonic signals spike. Experimental results show that it can effectively remove the spikes of the ultrasonic rangefinder.

  • An advanced and proactive response mechanism against diverse attacks on All-IP network should be proposed for enhance its security and reliability on open network. There are two main research works related to this study. First one is the SPIE system with hash function on Bloom filter and second one is the Sinkhole routing mechanism using BGP protocol for verifying its transmission path. In this study, we proposed an advanced IP Tracing mechanism based on Bloom filter and Sinkhole routing mechanism. Proposed mechanism has a Manager module for controlling the regional router with using packet monitoring and filtering mechanism to trace and find the attack packet's real transmission path. Additionally, proposed mechanism provides advanced packet aggregation and monitoring/control module based on existing Sinkhole routing method. Therefore, we can provide an optimized one in All-IP network by combining the strength on existing two mechanisms. And the Tracing performance also can be enhanced compared with previously suggested mechanism.

  • There have been several efforts to avoid unnecessary retransmission timeouts (RTOs), which is the main cause for TCP throughput degradation. Unnecessary RTOs can be classified into three groups according to their cause. RTOs due to multiple packet losses in the same window for TCP Reno, the most prevalent TCP version, can be avoided by TCP NewReno or using selective acknowledgement (SACK) option. RTOs occurring when a packet is lost in a window that is not large enough to trigger fast retransmit can be avoided by using the Limited Transmit algorithm. In this Paper, we comparatively analyze these schemes to cope with unnecessary RTOs by numerical analysis and simulations. On the basis of the results in this paper, TCP performance can be quantitatively predicted from the aspect of loss recovery probability. Considering that overall performance of TCP is largely dependent upon the loss recovery performance, the results shown in this paper are of great importance.

  • This paper proposes a routing establishment method for improving path stability in mobile ad-hoc networks. In mobile ad-hoc networks, the network topology is highly dynamic due to the node mobility unlike wired networks. Since the existing methods are based on the shortest path algorithm with the minimum hop count regardless of the path stability, it could lead to packet loss and path disconnection in mobile ad-hoc networks. In particular, if control packets and critical data are transmitted on the unstable path, it causes serious problems. Therefore, this paper proposes one approach in order to minimize packet loss and path disconnection by considering the node mobility. After the destination node receives multiple RREQ messages, it selects the stable path through the proposed MinMax algorithm according to the node speed.

There are two main research works related to this study. First one is the SPIE system with hash function on Bloom filter and second one is the Sinkhole routing mechanism using BGP protocol for verifying its transmission path. In this study, we studied and proposed a new IP traceback mechanism on All-IP network environments based on existing SPIE and Sinkhole routing model when diverse DDoS attacks would be happen. Proposed mechanism has a Manager module for controlling the regional router with using packet monitoring and filtering mechanism to trace and find the attack packet's real transmission path. Proposed mechanism uses simplified and optimized memory for storing and memorizing the packet's hash value on bloom filter, with which we can find and determine the attacker's real location on open network. Additionally, proposed mechanism provides advanced packet aggregation and monitoring/control module based on existing Sinkhole routing method. Therefore, we can provide an optimized one in All-IP network by combining the strength on existing two mechanisms. • In this paper, we propose a transport layer mobility support protocol for multimedia streaming services in mobile/wireless environments by extending PR-SCTP to support mobility. We named the proposed scheme to be uPR-mSCTP. The rules related to provide unordered and unreliable data transfer, as well as an approach to minimize handover latency we proposed. Through the simulation results, it is shown that, since uPR-mSCTP reduces transmission rates during handover, not only it reduces the waste of network resources, but it also has the packet loss rate similar to FMIPv6, which is a lot smaller than UDP over MIPv6 or HMIPv6 It also incurs smaller control packet overhead compared to the network layer mobility support approaches.

  • A finer granular scalable (FGS) version of ISO/IEC MPEG-4 video streaming is investigated in this work with the prioritized stream delivery over loss-rate differentiated networks. Our proposed system is focused on the seamless integration of rate adaptation, prioritized packetization, and simplified differentiation for the MPEG-4 FGS video streaming. The proposed system consists of three key components: 1) rate adaptation with scalable source encoding, 2) content-aware prioritized packetization, and 3) loss-based differential forwarding. More specifically, a constant-quality rate adaptation is first achieved by optimally truncating the over-coded FGS stream based on the embedding rate-distortion (R-D) information (obtained from a piecewise linear R-D model). The rate-controlled video stream is then packetized and prioritized according to the loss impact of each packet. Prioritized packets are transmitted over the underlying network, where packets are subject to differentiated dropping and forwarding. By focusing on the end-to-end quality, we establish an effective working conditions for the proposed video streaming and the superior performance is verified by simulated MPEG-4 FGS video streaming.
