Childhood depression was not officially accepted as a separate diagnosis until 20-25years ago. Although DSM-III R criteria gave us a starting point and are gaining acceptances as a useful tool for diagnosing childhood depression recently, many professionals feel that additional modifications are needed to better reflect the developmental aspects of children. And because children are relatively poor in expressing their moods or feelings due to weak reality sence and/or cognitive and linguistic limitations, the author too carefully suggest that developmental perspectives of children should be considered in diagnosing childhood depression. Little is known about the extent to which childhood depression precedes adult depression and persists into adult life and about the impact of it on the personality formation. Some evidences that childhood depressive symtoms can be quite enduring make it important to make an early diagnosis and treatment.

While the level of mental health(depression, somatization) were higher for wives than for husbands. Second, both husbands' and wives' mental health were negatively correlated with self-differentiation. Finally, results of multiple regression analyses showed that both husbands' and wives' mental health were negatively influenced by self-differentiation. Specifically, the variable significant affecting the husbands' mental health was the emotional reactivity of self-differentiation and the variable significant wives' mental health was the emotional cut-off of self-differentiation. These findings confirmed the concept of self-differentiation in applying to mental health of elderly couples.

Forty-five boys and 44 girls in the second `year of middle schools participated and were classified into 3 groups according to CDI scores. Among 89 students 59 students in the highest or the lowest CDI groups continued to participate in the next step of this study. The purpose of the study is to investigate the predisposing factors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in fire fighters in Korea and to suggest the program development and solution to the critical incident stress management (CISM) in the future. PTSD is characterized by invasion, withdrawal, negative change of cognition and mood, and hypersensitivity. Trauma memory includes explicit memory and implicit memory. The explicit memory is conscious, cognitive, and descriptive and is controlled by hippocampus. The data of explicit memory have inhibitive and narrative language structure. The implicit memory is inconscious, emotional, and remembered by the body. The implicit memory is controlled by amygdala and has inexpressive language structure. The deletion of implicit memory is the key point to trauma treatment. Critical incident stress management (CISM) is the approach for the solution of PTSD.
