The simulator models for 500MW fossil power plant have been developed, and interconnected with the turbine control system to test and validate the digital instrumentation & control (I&C) systems before they are implemented in operating power plants. When the performance of a selected digital I&C system is tested, the corresponding simulator model is replaced by the plant digital I&C systems which is considered as a non-tunable system. The input/out variables of simulator models and control systems were mapped using the LabView in interface systems. This paper describes the interconnection method between the simulator model and the digital I&C system, and summarizes the validation test results performed at the condition of steady-state operation, normal evolution, and malfunction. The integrated validation method of digital I&C systems using the simulator models showed that the simulator can be used as a test bed for the implementation of digital I&C systems in power plants.
One of the economical ways to satisfy the quality of service desired by the user in a web service environment is to adjust the size of the object. To this end, this study finds the maximum size of objects that satisfy this constraint when the mean response time is given below an arbitrary threshold for quality of service. It can be inferred that in the steady state of system, the mean response time in the deterministic model by using the round-robin will be the same as that of the queueing model following the general distribution. Based on this, analytical formulas and procedures for finding the maximum object size are obtained. As a service distribution of web traffic, the Pareto distribution is appropriate, so the maximum object size is computed by applying the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and the M/G/1/PS model using exponential distribution as computational experience. Performance evaluation through numerical calculation shows that as the shape parameter in the Pareto distribution increases, the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and M/G/1/PS model have the same maximum object size. The results of this study can be used to environments where objects can be sized for economical web service control.
The least mean fourth (LMF) adaptive algorithm is a stochastic gradient method that minimizes the error in the mean fourth sense. Despite its potential advantages, the algorithm is much less popular than the conventional least mean square (LMS) algorithm in practice. This seems partly because the analysis of the LMF algorithm is much more difficult than that of the LMS algorithm, and thus not much still has been known about the algorithm. In this paper, we explore the statistical convergence behavior of the LMF algorithm when the input to the adaptive filter is zero-mean, wide-sense stationary, and Gaussian. Under a system idenrification mode, a set of nonlinear evolution equations that characterizes the mean and mean-squared behavior of the algorithm is derived. A condition for the conbergence is then found, and it turns out that the conbergence of the LMF algorithm strongly depends on the choice of initial conditions. Performances of the LMF algorithm are compared with those of the LMS algorithm. It is observed that the mean convergence of the LMF algorithm is much faster than that of the LMS algorithm when the two algorithms are designed to achieve the same steady-state mean-squared estimation error.

Most of the conventional breakwaters impermeable breakwaters which block seawater exchange between the outside and inside of the harbors. The blocking of seawater exchange may cause pollution of water in harbors. To solve the water pollution problem, various kinds of seawater exchange breakwaters have been proposed. Their types can be classified into the current type which uses tidal current, and the overtopping type which uses the wave energy. The overtopping type breakwaters require a discharge coefficient to calculate the rate of overtopping into the harbor. The present study is to compute the rate of overtopping with introduction of a correct discharge coefficient and to evaluate the effect of the overtopping type breakwater on the water qualify inside a harbor. The rate of overtopping was computed by using Forchheimer formula with time dependent mild-slope equation for various wave conditions. The formula has been generally used to calculate the overflow discharge in steady state river flows. The discharge coefficient, which is the key parameter of the calculation, was determined by a series of hydraulic model tests. The present scheme was applied to the seawater exchange section of the western breakwater of Jeju New Harbor's and the efficiency of that section was examined. The calculated results showed that the rate of overtopping into the harbor reached about $27.5m^3/s$ in the wave condition (wave height 3.7 m, wave period 8.5s, and wave direction NNW).

An experimental study has been conducted to analyze the operating forces on a partially admitted turbine blade using a linear cascade apparatus. Axial-type blades were used and the blade chord was 200mm. The rectangular nozzle was applied and its size was $200mm{\times}200mm$. The experiment was done at $3{\times}10^5$ of Reynolds number based on the chord. The rotational force and axial force on the blade were measured at steady state by moving the blade to the rotational direction. The operating forces were measured at three different nozzle install angles of $58^{\circ}$, $65^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$ for off-design performance test. In addition, three different solidities of 1.25, 1.38 and 1.67 were applied. From the results, the maximum rotational force was increased when the solidity was decreased and the nozzle install angle was decreased. The axial force was increased by decreasing the nozzle install angle. The reverse axial force was obtained in the partially admitted region when the nozzle install angle was increased to $72^{\circ}$.

The objective of this study is to analyze the heat transfer loss of covering materials in a single-span plastic greenhouse under the steady-state wind environment. To achieve this objective, the following were conducted: (1) design of a small-scaled wind tunnel (SCWT) to analyze heat losses of the greenhouse and its performance; (2) determination of the overall heat transfer coefficient (OHTC) for the covering materials using a small-scaled greenhouse model. The SCWT consists of the blowing, dispersion, steady flow, reduction and testing areas. Each part of the SCWT was customized and designed to maintain air flow at steady state and to minimize the variances in the SCWT test. In this study, the OHTCs of the covering materials were calculated by separating each with the roof, side wall, front and back of the small-scaled greenhouse model. The results of this study show that the OHTC of the roof increases as wind speed increases but the zones in which the increase rate of the OHTC decreased, were distinguished by wind tunnel wing speed of 2 ms-1. For the side wall, the increase rate of the OHTC was particularly higher in the 0-1 ms-1 zone.

Induction motors play a vital role in aeronautical and automotive industries so that many researchers have studied on developing a fault detection and classification system of an induction motor to minimize economical damage caused by its fault. With this reason, this paper extracts robust feature vectors from the normal/abnormal vibration signals of the induction motor in noise circumstance: partial autocorrelation (PARCOR) coefficient, log spectrum powers (LSP), cepstrum coefficients mean (CCM), and mel-frequency cepstrum coefficient (MFCC). Then, we classified different types of faults of the induction motor by using the extracted feature vectors as inputs of a neural network. To find optimal feature vectors, this paper evaluated classification performance with 2 to 20 different feature vectors. Experimental results showed that five to six features were good enough to give almost 100% classification accuracy except features by CCM. Furthermore, we considered that vibration signals could include noise components caused by surroundings. Thus, we added white Gaussian noise to original vibration signals, and then evaluated classification performance. The evaluation results yielded that LSP was the most robust in noise circumstance, then PARCOR and MFCC followed by LSP, respectively.

The present study analyzed the effect of film hole position of 45 degree ribbed cooling channel on film cooling performance of gas turbine blades. We also investigated the influence of the ribs under the fixed blowing ratio. Three-dimensional numerical model was constructed and extensive simulation was conducted using the commercial code (Fluent ver. 17.0) under steady-state condition. Base on the simulation results, We investigated the cooling effectiveness, flow velocity, streamline, and pressure coefficient. Moreover, We analyzed the effect of cooling hole position on ejection of the secondary flow caused by the rib structure. From the results, It was found that internal flow of the cooling channel forms a vortex pair in the counterclockwise from the top side, and clockwise from the bottom side. For the channels with ribs, the vortex flow generated by the ribs caused a higher pressure difference near the hole outlet, resulting in at least 12% higher cooling effectiveness than the channel without ribs. Additionally, when the hole is located on the left side of the ribbed channel (Rib-Left), it can be found that the secondary flow generated by the ribs hits against wall surface near the hole to form a flow in the direction of the hole inclination angle. Therefore, It is considered that the region where the cooling gas discharged to the blade surface stays in the main flow boundary layer is wider than the other cases. In this case, The largest pressure coefficient difference was observed near the outlet of the hole, and as a result, the discharge of the cooling gas was accelerated and the cooling efficiency was slightly increased.

The conventional natural gas engine realized lean combustion for the improved efficiency. However, in order to cope with exhaust gas regulations enforced gradually, the interest has shifted at the stoichiometric mixture combustion system. The stoichiometric mixture combustion method has the advantage of a three-way catalyst utilization whose purification efficiency is high, but the problem of thermal durability and the fuel economy remains as a challenge. Hydrogen-natural gas blend fuel (HCNG) can increase the rate of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) because the hydrogen increases burning speed and lean flammability limit. The increase in the EGR rate can have a positive impact on heat resistance of the engine due to the decreased combustion temperature, and further can increase the compression ratio for efficient combustion. In this study, to minimize the exhaust emission developed HCNG engine with stoichiometric combustion method, developed three-way catalyst was applied to evaluate the conversion characteristics. The tests were carried out during the steady state and transient operating conditions, and the results were compared for both the conventional and proto-three-way catalyst of HCNG engine for city buses.

Busan New Port, under construction aiming for the hub of Northeast Asia and Partly in operation, had damaged up to 48 billion Won due to Typhoon 'maemi' in 2003. The present criteria of domestic harbor design only describes about the critical wave height with respect to the size of vessel for harbor tranquility. The berth operation ratio which represents the annual available berthing days is depending on the efficiency of cargo handling work and this depends on the motion of the moored vessel due to the wave action and the characteristics of cargo gears. The motion of moored vessel might be related not only to the wave height but also to wave period. Furthermore, the berth operation ratio relies on external forces such as currents and winds, including the characteristics of mooring system and the specification of the moored vessel. In this study we only deal with berth operation ratio in normal sea state, considering wave and current by measured data and numerical calculation. Especially we tried to evaluate the berth operation ratio for each berth adopting the variation of dredging and reclamation plan and the change of wave environment during the process of the new port construction. For better understanding and analysis of wave transformation process, we applied the steady state spectral wave model and extended mild-slope wave model to the related site. This study summarizes comparisons of harbor responses predicted by two numerical predictions obtained at Busan New port site. Field and numerical model analysis was conducted for the original port plan and the final corrected plan.
