The study aims at identifying catalogers' perception of competencies in cataloging. The study focuses on cataloging and classification knowledge, library systems, materials, metadata formats, authority control, foreign language, computer skills, and interdependence and personal skills. It discusses the gap between previous studies and catalogers' perceptions of competencies required for the job. It provides implications for cataloging education. It has values in that the study as an exploratory study urges continuous studies to identify how catalogers' perceptions are changed according to information environment. It will be a base to develop job descriptions for catalogers.

The purpose of the paper is to review the key factors of automation and information technology which have generally had the first and the most impact on traditional cataloging department and catalogers. Additioansl qualities and skills which the catalogers in this environment will need are indentified. The review is done through the examination of research reports and results of numerous library surveys. The overall climate of change is toward a process of conver gent evolution between catalogers and public service librarians. The heads of technical services departments and several catalogers in eight Korean academic libraries including National Central Library are interviewed to find out the present development of automation and any effect on cataloging staff in terms of work and organizational structure. It is too early to have any such changing impact as the automation is still in its implementing stage. However, they see the future when professional catalogers are expected to serve in much extended role as the automation stages are moving ahead.

It has been a common practice to use manually processed soil maps in planning of land readjustment. This study is intended to develop a geographic information system for computerized processing of soil maps. The pilot region of land readjustment for this study was set at a mountain area with diverse formation of soil. Cadastral maps were employed for the basis map, and the main map was prepared using the information obtained from in-situ soil survey and laboratory tests. The detailed soil maps were drawn using the geographic information system, and analyzed and compared with manually processed maps. The soil maps, in conjunction with a computer program of land readjustment design, can be applied in estimation of soil works appropriate for the given soil condition, and also in selecting the efficient construction equipments.

Dynamic context is considered as a source for intuitive understanding on the calculus. The relation between the area under time-velocity graph and distance is the base of the dynamic contexts which are treated in the integral calculus. The fundamental theorem of calculus has originated in dynamic contexts. This paper investigated the fundamental theorem of calculus via the relation between the area under time-velocity graph and distance. And we analyzed mathematics textbooks and the understanding of students. Finally we suggest some proposal for the teaching of the fundamental theorem of calculus.

The importance of students' precise understanding of mathematical definitions, formulas, and theorems can not be underestimated. In this survey research, we attempted to evaluate students' understanding of the concepts of five topics -limit, continuity and intermediate theorem, derivative, application of derivative and integral. On the basis of the research result, this paper suggests that we need to 1) be more inventive and speculative in making test problems, 2) explain the examples and counter-examples more concretely, 3) stress and repeat the basic concepts on the stage of introducing new concepts, 4) develop more effective problems for the measure of students' understanding of mathematical concepts, 5) use developed problems in actual teaching.

So far, around 370 various verification of Pythagorean Theorem have been introduced and many studies for the analysis of the method of verification are being conducted based on these now. However, we are in short of the research for the study of the generalization for Pythagorean Theorem. Therefore, by abstracting mathematical materials that is, data(lengths of sides, areas, degree of an angle, etc) which is based on Euclid's elements Vol 1 proposition 47, various methods for the generalization for Pythagorean Theorem have been found in this study through scrutinizing the school mathematics and documentations previously studied.

휴대폰 멀티미디어의 또 다른 세계를 열어줄 VIS(Vector Image Service)에 대해서 3회에 걸쳐 설명하고자 한다. VIS는 네오엠텔에서 제공하는 무선인터넷 토탈 멀티미디어 솔루션으로 '사용자에게 더 많은 편리함과 즐거움을'이라는 설계원칙을 갖고 모든 휴대폰 멀티미디어 서비스를 구현할 수 있도록 설계됐으며, 현재 서비스되고 있는 기존 기능들도 포함하고 있다. 첫회에는 VIS가 서비스되고 있는 단말기, 무선인터넷 멀티미디어 서비스 등 무선인터넷의 현 상황을 간략히 정리하고, 그 흐름속에서 VIS의 개요를 설명하기로 한다. 또 2회와 3회에서는 VIS의 실제 기술적인 내용과 서비스 측면을 정리하고 무선인터넷 멀티미이어 솔루션으로서의 VIS의 의미와 앞으로의 방향에 대해서 정리하기로 한다.

우리 협회에서는 한해의 도서관계 주요 뉴스를 정리함으로써 1년을 정리하고 새로운 발전을 도모함에 있어 기초자료로 삼고자 올해부터 매년 도서관계 10대 뉴스를 선정ㆍ발표하기로 하였다. 올해 10대 뉴스는 우리 협회 사무국에서 기초자료를 수집, 정리하고 이를 참고자료로 첨부하여 관련 단체 및 협회 전문위원회 위원장 및 도서관인 대중에게 서면, 인터넷 등으로 의견을 수집한 후, 취합된 의견을 참고하여 협회 사무국에서 최종 선정하였다. 10대 뉴스 선정에는 우리 협회 조원호 사무총장, 이용남 기획위원회 위원장, 이경구 간행물편집위원회 위원장이 참여하였다.

본 협회는 지난 3월 29일 잠실 올림픽공원내 펜싱경기장에서 개최된 전국건축대회에 즈음하여 참석회원을 대상으로 편찬ㆍ홍보위원회가 주관하여 ‘건축사지 발전방향에 관한 설문조사’를 실시하여 ‘90년대를 향한 한국건축의 정론지로서의 위상정립을 위한 방안을 모색해 보았다. 이날 대회에 참석한 3천여 회원을 대상으로한 설문조사 결과 응답자 1,015명의 회신을 편찬ㆍ홍보위원회 (책임정리:목원대 김정동 교수)에서 분석한 결과를 정리 하였다. 정리된 내용이 협회지 발전에 개진되기를 바라며 본 설문조사를 위해 적극 협력해 주신 회원 여러분께 감사를 드린다.

최근 소의 광우병 발생보고가 영국에서 16만여두 그리고 EU 14게국에서 약 150여 마리에 이르므로써 우산업분야에 미치는 심각한 경제적 여파와 인체에서의 Creutzfeldt-Jakob병과 어떤 연관성 논란으로 공중보건상 심각한 논쟁이 일고 있다. 본회 학술홍보 위원회에서는 이 질병에 관한 현재까지의 알려진 일반적인 지식을 정리하여 회원들에게 우선 소개하고자한다. 이 질병에 관한 보다 정리된 종합적인 내용은 수의과학연구소 해외전염병과에서 정리하여 다음호에 특집으로 소개할 것입니다.
