  • Invasive species are organisms that are introduced into places outside of their natural distribution range. The global pet trade is facilitating the introduction of invasive species into new countries and areas. Among the introduced alien species, turtles are one of the most common animal groups whether lives in wetland ecosystems, such as wetlands or reservoirs. Like other countries around the world, exotic turtles is becoming a growing concern for the wetland ecosystem in South Korea. In this study, we report new reports of subspecies of Painted turtle (Chrysemysspp.): Chrysemys picta marginata, C. p. bellii and C. dorsalis, from the reservoirs in downtown Cheongju and Gwangju, South Korea. We used morphological features, such as the characteristics of the legs, plastron, and carapace, to identify the turtles. It is assumed that all turtles were artificially released into nature. Considering the increasing number of reports on the introduction of alien invasive turtles in Korean wetlands, we recommend the formulation of an immediate and systematic management plan for pet trades and organized continuous monitoring programs.

  • Weeds are a major object which is very harmful to crops. To remove the weeds effectively, we have to classify them accurately and use herbicides. As computing technology has developed, image-based machine learning methods have been studied in this field, specially convolutional neural network(CNN) based models have shown good performance in public image dataset. However, CNN with numerous training parameters and high computational amount. Thus, it works under high hardware condition of expensive GPUs in real application. To solve these problems, in this paper, a hierarchical architecture based deep-learning model is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed model successfully classify 21 species of the exotic weeds. That is, the model achieve 97.2612% accuracy with a small number of parameters. Our proposed model with a few parameters is expected to be applicable to actual application of network based classification services.

  • This paper demonstrates the utility of the Ni-Pd and carbon-nanotube (Ni-Pd-CNT)-based nanoalloy to improve the α-Ga2O3 crystal quality using the halide-vapor-phase epitaxy (HVPE) method. As result, the overall thickness of the α-Ga2O3 epitaxial layer increased from a Ni electroless plating time of 40 s to 11 ㎛ after growth. In addition, the surface morphologies of the α-Ga2O3 epilayers remained flat and crack-free. The full-width half-maximum results of the X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the ($10{\bar{1}}4$) diffraction patterns decreased with increasing nominal thickness.

  • The photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA) with phenylsilane wasperformed. The molecular weights of the poly(MMA) containing SiH moieties were increased with augment of molar ratio of PhSiH3 over MMA by cross-linking via hydrosilation at the expense of isolated yield. Phenylsilane apparently influenced on the photopolymerization as a chain transfer agent and solvent.
