Halftone Noise Removal in Scanned Images using HOG based Adaptive Smoothing Filter (HOG 기반의 적응적 평활화를 이용한 스캔된 영상의 하프톤 잡음 제거)

  • In this paper, a novel descreening method using HOG(histogram of gradient)-based adaptive smoothing filter is proposed. Conventional edge-oriented smoothing methods does not provide enough smoothing to the halftone image due to the edge-like characteristic of the halftone noise. Moreover, clustered-dot halftoning method, which is commonly used in printing tends to create Moire pattern because of the intereference in color channels. Therefore, the proposed method uses HOG to distinguish edges and the amount of smoothing to be performed on the halftone image is then calculated according to the magnitude of the HOG in the edge and edge normal orientation. The proposed method was tested on various scanned halftone materials, and the results show that it effectively removes halftone noises as well as Moire pattern while preserving image details.

  • 실시간 환경에서 저전력 설계의 효율적인 방법으로 동적 전압 조절 기법(Dynamic Voltage Scaling)이 있다. 동적 전압 조절 기법의 성능을 올리기 위하여 정확한 작업 시간의 예측이 필수적이며, 많은 예측 필터들이 이를 위하여 사용되었다. 하지만 각 예측 필터들은 여러 가지 다른 상황에 대하여 모두 적절하게 처리하는데 한계를 가지고 있다. 이 논문에서는 여러 가지 다른 예측필터들의 상황 별 성능을 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 동적으로 상황에 따라 예측 필터를 변화시키며 항상 최적의 성능을 가지는 새로운 예측 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 MPEG 환경에서의 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안한 방법이 모든 상황에서 다른 예측 필터들에 비하여 높은 성능을 보이는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • A GPS/SDINS/ST(Star Tracker) integrated sensor algorithm is more robust than the GPS/SDINS and the ST/SDINS systems on exploration of other planets. Most of the advanced studies shown that GPS/SDINS/ST integrated sensor with centralized Kalman filter was more accurate than those 2 integrated systems. The system, however, consist of a single filter, it is vulnerable to defects on failed data. To improve the problem, we work out a study using federated Kalman filter(No-Reset mode) and centralized Kalman filter with adaptive measurement fusion which known as robustness on fault. The simulation results show that the debasing influences are reduced and the computation is enable at least 100Hz. Further researches that the initial calibration in accordance with observability and applying the exploration trajectory are needed.

  • In this paper a discrete extended Kalman filter for the tidal prediction has been developed. The filter is based on a set of difference equations derived from the one dimensional shallow water equations using the finite difference scheme proposed by Lax-Wendroff. The filter gives estimates of the water level and water velocity, together with the parameters in the model which essentially have a random character, e.g. bottom friction and wind stress. The estimates are propagated and updated by the filter when the physical circumstances change. The Kalman-filter is applied to field data gathered in the coastal area alon the West Sea and it is shown that the filter gives satisfactory results in forecasting the waterlevels during storm surge periods.

Noise-robust electrocardiogram R-peak detection with adaptive filter and variable threshold (적응형 필터와 가변 임계값을 적용하여 잡음에 강인한 심전도 R-피크 검출)

  • There have been numerous studies on extracting the R-peak from electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. However, most of the detection methods are complicated to implement in a real-time portable electrocardiograph device and have the disadvantage of requiring a large amount of calculations. R-peak detection requires pre-processing and post-processing related to baseline drift and the removal of noise from the commercial power supply for ECG data. An adaptive filter technique is widely used for R-peak detection, but the R-peak value cannot be detected when the input is lower than a threshold value. Moreover, there is a problem in detecting the P-peak and T-peak values due to the derivation of an erroneous threshold value as a result of noise. We propose a robust R-peak detection algorithm with low complexity and simple computation to solve these problems. The proposed scheme removes the baseline drift in ECG signals using an adaptive filter to solve the problems involved in threshold extraction. We also propose a technique to extract the appropriate threshold value automatically using the minimum and maximum values of the filtered ECG signal. To detect the R-peak from the ECG signal, we propose a threshold neighborhood search technique. Through experiments, we confirmed the improvement of the R-peak detection accuracy of the proposed method and achieved a detection speed that is suitable for a mobile system by reducing the amount of calculation. The experimental results show that the heart rate detection accuracy and sensitivity were very high (about 100%).

  • This paper presents design concepts of a reconfigurable mobile robot for both of indoor and outdoor applications. A linkage mechanism and wheel-in-motors give the proposed mobile robot various driving modes in maneuver and good adaptability to irregular surface. Since the mobile robot receives multiple sensor signals from odometers and an orientation sensor, states related to the position and the orientation of the mobile robot are optimally estimated by an extended Kalman filter. Simulations and experimental results show that the performance of dead reckoning on estimating the pose of a mobile robot can be improved remarkably by the optimal state observer.

  • 전자공업은 방위산업발달에 획기적인 역활을 담당하고 있으며, 특히 전략적 $C^{3}$I (Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence) 개념을 도입하여, 국가방위를 위한 연구가 미국의 여러 대학들과 국방성 산하 연구기관에서 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이 글에서는 $C^{3}$I 에 대한 개략적인 개념을 소개하고, 추계학적 (Stochastic) 관점에서 $C^{3}$I 가 실전을 위하여 어떻게 응용되고 있는 가를 고찰하기 위하여 최근에 발표되고 있는 비선형필터링(Nonliner Filtering), 적응형필터링(Adaptive Filtering), 최적제어 문제들을 소개하고자 한다.

An Adaptive Recommendation Service Scheme Using Context-Aware Information in Ubiquitous Environment (유비쿼터스 환경에서 상황 인지 정보를 이용한 적응형 추천 서비스 기법)

  • With the emergence of ubiquitous computing era, various models for providing personalized service have been proposed, and, especially, several recommendation service schemes have been proposed to give tailored services to users proactively. However, the previous recommendation service schemes utilize a wide range of data without and filtering and consider the limited context-aware information to predict user preferences so that they are not adequate to provide personalized service to users. In this paper, we propose an adaptive recommendation service scheme which proactively provides suitable services based on the current context. We use accumulated interaction contexts (IC) between users and devices for predicting the user's preferences and recommend adaptive service based on the current context by utilizing clustering and collaborative filtering. The clustering algorithm improves efficiency of the recommendation service by focusing and analyzing the data that is collected from the locations nearby the users. Collaborative filtering guarantees an accurate recommendation, even when the data is insufficient. Finally, we evaluate the performance and the reliability of the proposed scheme by simulations.

  • 영상에 포함된 잡음은 시각적인 문제를 일으킬 뿐만 아니라, MPEG이나 H.263과 같은 영상 압축 시스템의 부호화 효율을 떨어뜨린다. 따라서 영상 압축 시스템의 입력으로 이러한 잡음이 포함된 신호가 들어갈 때, 잡음 제거 필터를 사용하여 잡음을 제거한 후 영상 압축을 하는 것이 시각적인 면에서나 압축 효율적인 면에서 매우 효과적이다. 본 논문에서는 이웃한 4개의 화소값을 참조하여 잡음의 존재 여부를 판단하고, 판단 결과를 이용하여 선택적으로 잡음을 제거하는 적응형 십자형 중간값(median) 필터를 제안한다. 제안된 방법을 이용하면 전체 영상에 걸쳐 필터를 이용하는 방법에 비해 계산량이 크게 줄고, 영상의 필터 처리후에 나타나는 뭉개짐(blurring) 현상을 줄일 수 있다. 또한 잡음이 처리된 영상을 시간방향으로 Look-up Table에 따른 IIR필터를 통과시킴으로써 시간상으로 존재하는 잡음을 제거하여 동영상의 주관적 화질을 향상시킬 수 있다.

Spatio-Temporal 3D Joint Noise Reduction Filter (시공간 3차원 결합 잡음제거 필터)

  • Noise in image sequences is visually offensive and may mask important image detail. In addition to degradation of visual quality, the noise pattern increases the entropy of the image, and thus hinders effective compression. This paper proposes a spatial and a temporal joint filters to reduce the noise by jointly connecting two adaptive noise reducers with different characteristics, and we also propose an IIR-type 3D noise reduction litter scheme connecting the spatial and the temporal joint filters. The proposed 3D IIR filter not only strongly removes noise in uniform image regions while preserving edges and details but also effectively suppresses temporal flicker caused by noise. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves subjective quality as well as objective quality as compared with the various noise filtering techniques.
