An Analysis of Packet Collision Probability due to Inter-piconet Interference in the Bluetooth Low Energy Networks (저전력 블루투스 네트워크에서 피코넷 간 간섭으로 인한 패킷충돌 확률 분석)

  • Research and development are being conducted to apply low-power Bluetooth (BLE) technology to IoT (Internet of Things) applications. The characteristic of this application environment is that many piconets can operate in the same space. Therefore, interference between homogeneous networks is likely to occur. In the BLE data channel, adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) scheme is used among the 37 frequency channels, and the master and the slave communicate while changing the carrier frequency. If there are multiple BLE piconets in the same space, there is a risk of frequency collision and packet errors will occur. In this paper, we analyze the packet collision probability due to cochannel interference in multiple asynchronous BLE piconet environments. Specifically, we analyzed packet collision probability according to the number of concurrently operating BLE piconets with the ratio of connection interval to connection event length as the main parameters. The analysis result can be used to set connection event related parameters for a desired packet collision probability according to the number of users having BLE devices in a given space.

  • This study attempted to develop a beacon scanner based ward monitoring service in order to respond to the new paradigm of medical environment which is trying to introduce ICT technology as medical service to track and manage the spread path of large infectious diseases such as MERS. The study also included beacon hardware development, firmware development for the beacon low-power bluetooth 4.0, and server and web-based dashboard UI development. Using these, we have developed a customized monitoring system that provides functions such as locating patients by location based service and monitoring based on web UI. It is possible to maximize the efficiency of offline hospital services and to value active infection control and patient safety by integrating online technology into the area where online technologies such as beacons are not properly integrated.

  • When unforeseen accidents occur in a ship, it is important to save passengers safely and remove them from the accident area quickly. To solve such a situation, site information of passengers on board always must be identified. This paper implemented a site monitoring of crews and passengers based on the BLE and PLM combination, to prepare for unexpected accidents of the ships. This system was composed of BLE tag for crews, passengers and each room, PLM networks, data server, and monitoring PC. In this system, site information derived from the tag attached to the bodies and cabins of crews and passengers are transmitted through a power line network, and monitored on the screen of a monitoring PC. The proposed system guides them into the only authorized area considering the ship security and passengers' safety, and even has a special alarm call to warn them after entering an unauthorized area. This system enables the BLE-embedded tag battery to use for a long time because the BLE consumes low electric power, and can gain an economic advantage.

  • At present, with the rise of smart-phone market supported the Wi-Fi, smart-phone based network content has propagated rapidly. But, network content service is difficult in feature phone and multimedia device not supporting the Wi-Fi or supporting only the bluetooth. This paper was used the zigbee technology supporting low power, low cost, availability, multi channel, broadcasting compared to the bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It will provide a variable network game development by utilizing the zigbee technology. Also, it is provide the development of variable mobile network contents using the zigbee.

  • IEEE 802.15 WPAN(Wireless personal area network) technologies represented by Bluetooth are prevalent these days. However, they have short radio coverage and thus cannot be used to build a SNS for servicing users spread over a wide area. In this paper, we develop a mobile SNS(Social Network System) that does not necessitate any infrastructure support using the Bluetooth technology and the mobility based information dissemination technique. Using so-called mobility assisted data dissemination technique we overcome the short radio range restriction of WPAN technologies. We develop Blue Market, a free online marketplace program, as a proof of concept.

  • Bluetooth is a popular wireless data transmission method with low power consumption, but it has low data transmission rate. Thus, although many video stream players of a local or network file exist, there have been few players of video stream transmitted via Bluetooth. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec is one of video codecs available with best compression rates for a certain quality, so a H.264 encoder seems to be adequate for video stream to be transmitted via Bluetooth. In this paper, we present a DirectShow filter based player of video stream encoded by H.264 codec, which is transmitted via Bluetooth. Details on the design and implementation of this program are described. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate the validity of the implemented program using various video samples.

  • Social issues for environmental pollution are continuously increasing globally. Especially, Users require services to measure environmental factors in indoor and outdoor and manage related data effectively and conveniently. According to this demand, sensors that can measure environmental factors in indoor and outdoor have been developed. However, since one sensor is composed of independent module, the interface of output data from each sensor is different. To solve the problem, we propose a customized protocol for low-power short-range wireless communication between smartphone using Bluetooth and All-in-One sensor device board and analyze the performance of the proposed customized protocol by developing program for performance verification of interface with user smartphone through Bluetooth. In addition, we implement a smartphone application using proposed protocol.

  • One of the fundamental limits of Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) is that the data transmission is available via singlehop connection. In this research, we suggested the stable multihop transmission method to overcome this limitation. In multihop connection situation, multiple singlehop connection should be made and disconnected dynamically. Therefore, we stored the data within the GATT layer and tried to send it dynamically. We divided whole process as 4 states, and let each nodes transfers around each states to make data connection safely. Also, we set the transfer policy between each states during the transmission to make a robust system. From the experiment in real-time environment, we proved that our method showed high rate of packet delivery in a multihop network, which consists of more than 3 nodes.

  • Bluetooth has been developed to be applied over the course of several versions in different environments.   • Short-range wireless communication and networking technologies are becoming increasingly important in enabling useful mobile applications. for example, ZigBee technology is expected to provide low cost and low power connectivity for equipment that needs battery life as long as several months to several years. In addition, ZigBee can be implemented in mesh networks larger than is possible with Bluetooth. The main features of this ZigBee standard are network flexibility, low cost, very low power consumption, and low data rate in an adhoc self-organizing network among fixed, portable and moving devices. Home network/Home automation is one of the key market areas for Zigbee, with an example of a simple network This paper investigates the effect of short range wireless channel on the performance of Zigbee system and DSSS-BPSK signal transmission in AWGN, interference and Rician fading environments. And we investigate performance degradation due to interference and fading effects in short range wireless channel. In particular, the impacts of the fading and interference level on the bit error probability is shown in BER performance figures.
