A Planning study on the VR/AR Common Platform in Electric Power Industry (전력산업에서 VR/AR 기술동향 및 공통 플랫폼 구성방안 연구)

  • Recently, many ICT companies are trying to expand the ecosystem of VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality). They are developing a variety of industries such as entertainment, education, e-commerce and so on. There is also contains the power, energy field. And application related with VR/AR will increase in power industry. Thus, Platform is necessary because there are problems such as re-use, interface with legacy system and security. We can expect the convenience and efficiency by developing VR/AR power platform. In this paper, we will discuss the trends of VR/AR technologies, possibilities of VR/AR in energy field, essential elements of VR/AR power platform. In the future, we expect to lead standards of VR/AR in energy and to develop a killer application such as Pokemon GO.

Investigation on the Utilization Possibility of Vitrified Slag for Sound Absorbing Material (용융고화슬래그를 이용한 흡음재료 활용가능성 검토)

  • This study was performed to prove that vitrified slag can be utilized as sound absorbing materials by investigating on heavy metal elution and the properties of sound absorbing rate according to the thickness. The heavy metal elution experiment indicated that heavy metal was not eluted since it was fixed stable in the slag. Vitrified slag generally exhibited a maximum sound absorbing rate around at 600Hz-1kHz and 3kHz in the low and high frequency range, respectively. On the other hand, the absorbing rate increased beyond the range of 7kHz again. The sound absorbing rate varied a little according to the thickness of the material. However, Vitrified slag is likely to the effective as a sound absorbing wall material since it has a sound absorbing rate clover 80% in the low and high frequency region when used as a wall. The results obtained in this study showed that vitrified slag has the recyclable material properties and therefore, highly applicable to sound absorbing materials.

  • The full depth excavation induces couple of technical and social problems like increase of construction cost and time for excavation and backfill, increase of public complains and delay of traffic, and so force. In order to overcome these problems, lots of laboratory tests were carried out for sewer pipeline of maintenance materials with trenchless methods. The testing materials are PVC strip and then the lab tests were followed by Korean Standard. We will treat the structure safety and pipe integrity of PVC profile more excellent than the profile have application to SPR. There is no side-effect to process and to satisfy the criteria of tensile strength, impact strength and softening temperature. The profile with resin adhesive showed no leakage of water at specific pressure.

Multimedia Learning Contents Retrieval Based on XML/RDF and SMIL (XML/RDF와 SMIL에 기반한 멀티미디어 교육 컨텐츠 검색)

  • In this paper, we propose the new approach with which user is able to retrieve the massive volume of learning contents in the multimedia learning system. In order to secure the compatibility of learning contents. we apply the SMIL on the basis of XML, so that the integration and the synchronization of multimedia components can be available to realize in the mode of standardization. We also implement the multimedia learning contents represented by the RDF on the IEEE LOM. We present the two step-retrieval method to get precise results. In the first step, user can find with high speed and ease whatever contents user wants to take a look through metadata in the system. The second step is followed that by using the time information of SMIL, user can retrieve the interest synchronous parts in the result of the first step. This innovative retrieval approach applied in the multimedia learning system is highly expected to make a meaningful contribution to implement the principles of self-directed learning in the learning environments, where user can use and revise the retrieval results for their own learning purpose and make further the active knowledge-reconstruction.

  • We introduce a novel scheme to characterize and index events in TV golf programs using MPEG-7 descriptors. Our goal is to identify and localize the golf events of interest to facilitate highlight-based video indexing and summarization. In particular, we analyze multiple (low-level) visual features using domain-specific model to create a perceptual relation for semantically meaningful(high-level) event identification. Furthermore, we summarize a TV golf program with TV-Anytime segmentation metadata, a standard form of an XML-based metadata description, in which the golf events are represented by temporally localized segments and segment groups of highlights. Experimental results show that our proposed technique provides reasonable performance for identifying a variety of golf events.

Moment Equations for Long-Span Soil-Steel Box Culverts (장지간 지중강판 박스컬버트의 휨모멘트 식)

  • This paper studies the moment equations in the 2000 Canadian highway bridge code(CHBDC) for soil-steel box structures, which are applicable to the span less than 8m. Finite element analyses carried out for soil-steel box structures having spans of 3-12m using the deep corrugated steel plates under three construction stages; backfill up to the crown, backfill up to the cover depth, and live loading. The coefficients of moment equations are newly proposed based on the results of numerous finite element analyses considering various design variables, such as span length, soil depth, backfill conditions. The validity of the proposed coefficients in the moment equations of the 2000 CHBDC is investigated by the comparison with the existing coefficients and numerical results of finite element analyses. The comparisons show that the moments of the 2000 CHBDC give good predictions for the span less than 8m, but underestimate for the span greater than 8m, whereas the proposed moments give good estimates of numerical results for the spans of 3-12m.

An Experimental Study on Bottom Ash for Utilization of Subbase Materials (저회의 성토재료 활용성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, many researches on bottom ash which is produced in the burning process of power plant are actively performed for its utilization for soil-subbase materials. In this paper, bottom ashes from 5 different power plants are prepared and several tests including compaction, CBR, and tri-axial compression are carried out for mixed bottom ash and weathered soil considering 3 replacement ratio of 30%, 50%, and 70%. Through the tests, CBR result over 20 are evaluated without plastic property, which shows availability of subbase material. With higher increase in replacement ratio of bottom ash, CBR of mixed soil increases due to the higher mechanical performance of bottom ash. However, replacement effects of bottom ash on friction angle and cohesion are evaluated to be little since bottom ash plays a little role in rearrangement of mixed soil. Bottom ash with a good mechanical property is evaluated to have reasonable bearing capacity which shows a good property for subbase materials.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the volumetric expansion ratio and hardness of expanded graphite after coating with various resins which were used as an additive of fireproof sealant. The coating thickness of the resin, which represents the coating rate, was dependent of the drying speed of the resin and the viscosity of the resin. Therefore the coating thickness was shown as follows: polyvinyl acetate > acrylic resin > urethane resin > water soluble latex. Furthermore, the volumetric expansion ratio was as follows: urethane resin > water soluble latex > acrylic resin > polyinyl acetate and the hardness was as follows: polyvinyl acetate resin > acrylic resin > water soluble latex > urethane resin. This showed that the volume of expansion was reduced by expansion, which was not covered by coating, but significantly increased by increasing hardness and allowed it to be used as a refractory addition. According to the response surface methodology, the optimized addition amount and stirring speed of acrylic resin were 37.6 wt% and 441.4 rpm, respectively.

  • Shotcrete was a mortar or concrete that is pneumatically projected at high velocity onto a subject. It has been applied for tunneling, underground big-spaces, slope stabilization. Shotcrete is increasing use in structure repair. The dry-mix shotcrete require a smaller equipment, easy maintenance, possible of very-earlystrength materials than wet-mix shotcrete, which make this process attractive and economic for structural repairs. It is common practice core compressive strength to the dry-mix shotcrete quality control. This test is very difficult estimating eraly-strength of Very-Early-Strength Dry-Mix Shotcrete. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation of test results among cube test, core test, pullout test and maturity. The correlationship analysis of test results among cube test, core test, pullout test and maturity showed more than 90%.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate anti analyze the effect of iength of steel fiber and concrete admixt.ure such as iilica fume and fly ash on the workability arid engineering properties cbf steel fiber reinforced concxte (SFRC). As the results the follows art: found. First, it is poss ible to make steel fiber reinforced concrete having the consistency of IOcm slump and 28 days compressive strength of $600{\;}kgf/\textrm{m}^2$ by adopting low water binder ratios arid using :uperplasticizer. Second, the conipresslve and tensile strength of SWKC containing silica fume and fly ash is lower than those of plain concrete in the age after 28 days, but higher in the age after 28 days. Finally, tensde strength of SFHC is higher than that of plain concrete, and so adding the steel fibers in concrete increases the toughness.
