  • This study is to form develops an effective teaching method centered on the Korean "symbol adverb + predicate" type, helping Chinese students to learn Korean to communicate more accurately when expressing detailed complex feelings and various emotions.Manyforeignlanguage learners try to memorize individual words when they acquire the new vocabulary, this may lead to a problematic in that they cannot use Korean vocabulary accurately and naturally because they do not value the combination of vocabulary words. Since symbolic adverbs are not used in isolation and being frequently used with certain vocabulary words, it is more effective to teach them in the form of instruct learners using "symbol adverb + predicate" forms rather than individual vocabulary words. Accordingly, this research considers a particular vocabulary following symbolic adverbs or vocabulary groups with common semantic qualities that could be frequently introduced. Seven Korean language textbooks used by university in domestic Korea and China are compared and analyzed to reveal the aspects of differences in the use of descriptive words after symbolic adverbs. Finally, based on the textbook analysis results, the government propose a plan to improve the Korean "symbol adverb + predicate" type for Chinese learners. However, this study was limit to being unable to present specific educational measures for Chinese learners in the form of "symbol adverb + predicate". This is expected to complement the limitations of this study in subsequent studies, and lead to more specific discussions.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship among the destination attractiveness, perceived value and loyalty of Japanese tourists. In this study, 2 hypotheses based on literature reviews were employed. Questionnaire was also developed based on the previous study. Data were collected from Japanese tourists. Then the data and hypotheses were examined using structural equation modeling(SEM) by AMOS. The results are as follows. Firstly, 'nature culture' factor has no effect on tourist perceived value. Secondly, 'convenience' and 'access' factor have positive effects on both functional value and symbolic value. Moreover, these factors have stronger effects on functional value. Lastly, tourist's functional value has a positive effect on loyalty while symbolic value has no effect on loyalty. The contribution and limitations of this research were discussed and the future possible researches were mentioned.

  • The Gwanghalu garden which has a pond of approximately $6,000m^2$ around the pavilion at Namwon City, used as official uses consists of the various imaginary environmental elements such as moon palace as an immortal world, miniatured cosmology and law of nature. This study has focused on the interpretation of the imaginary environmental elements at 1) the name of garden structures, 2) the paintings on the structures, 3) the poems on the garden, and then emphasized on the values of imaginary environments at the historic sites which have been abandoned because of the Westernized scientific attitude in landscape design. Imaginary environment is the 3rd one above the natural and built environment which was a long traditional culture. Accordingly education on landscape architecture might pay attention to this lost environment, imaginary to give the people dream.

  • This study investigates the processes of the "Production of Nature" and the preservation and exploitation of nature in the local festival. The recent discussions in tourism geography address the neoliberalization of nature with its political-ecological interpretation. Yangyang-gun has been one of the main regions that have made efforts to make salmon back to the streams. Also, the Yangyang Salmon Festival was organized to celebrate and symbolize the successful restoration of nature. In fact, however, the festival focuses on the commercialization of salmon. Moreover, it is hard to consider Namdaecheon as the successfully restored ecosystem for salmon. As the returning number of salmon has not significantly increased and the festival itself has not been successful to attract many tourists, the local people show declining interest on the conservation of salmon. Contrast to the catchphrase of the festival to emphasize the conservation of nature and restoration of ecosystem, there are still many hurdles that jeopardize returning of salmon. This controversy leads diverse actors into conflict over the conservation of salmon and Namdaecheon. The players in the dispute encompass local people, local and national governments and international organization. Nature appropriated for ecotourism is selectively defined, used and emphasized by the interests of agencies at multiple scales. The findings of this study show that the concept of "Produced Nature" is more useful than intrinsic or original perspective on nature as long as we try to understand the commercialization of nature that is appropriated for the repertoire of local festival.

  • This study, as part of a study on the visual impact and evaluation of the symbolic sculptures currently installed in counties in Jeollanam-do on the formation of Landscapes by local governments, investigated and analyzed the installation characteristics of symbolic sculptures by local governments. As a result, many local governments have installed local specialties and landmarks as symbolic sculptures, and the installation location is often installed in open spaces and in the center of roundabouts. It was investigated that the use of color or the color of the material as it is was preferred. It was found that more symbolic sculptures installed on the roadside were installed in the center of the roundabout or along the side of the street than installation at the gateway. It is considered that it is more effective to recognize the symbolism of the area to the tourists through the installation of the symbolic sculpture at the entrance of the area, the center of the roundabout, or the side of the road rather than the gate, because the size of the symbol is bigger in order to recognize the symbolism of the area due to the width of the large road when installing the symbolic sculpture at the gateway, It is considered.

  • The concept of pun was basically used to get rhetorical effect in verbal usage and it can be easily applicable to visual communication design. By substituting symbolic images for words of verbal expression, we can draw out some effective communication methods in forms of pun. For years, visual puns have been useful concept to convey a visual message from ancient hieroglyphics to modern arts and design. There are essentially three categories of visual puns. Literal pun upholds the primary meanings of the message literally by picking up a key symbol to create two or more meanings, meanwhile suggestive pun is created when one symbol is used as a key symbol or two or more symbols are combined to created one key symbol that can suggest and strengthen meanings. Comparative pun can be defined two or more symbols of nearly the same appearance are combined or juxtaposed two or more times to enhance overall statement. The concept of visual pun used for traditional area can also be effective ways of new media communication. Thus it is natural to see the concept of visual puns in website. How to handle the images in website is the most critical point for differentiation. But recently, web site designers just seem to focus on somewhat functional aspect. There are certain types of web design formats, and many designers are tend to follow these routines unconsciously. In this situation, the new aspect of visual puns for web design can be a possible design method to fortify the overall message. Through this concept, we can build up some clear identity compared to other web sites and can get alternatives to perform more effective communication ways as a problem-solving process.

  • The contemporary shoes have been progressively trying a variety of designs using patterns as well as the formative change. However, for making those patterns secure the continuing values as the design having global competitiveness without being a temporal trend, it is required to develop the patterns which reflect the unique identity of Korea. Such development can be realized through the analysis on the traditional patterns of Korea. The patterns are the symbol of collective values. The traditional patterns implicitly express the philosophical thinking of members in a society as having been inherited up to now. Thus, this paper analyzed the gilt bronze shoes in Three Kingdoms Era using the patterns as unique design elements among traditional shoes of Korea. The symbolism of those patterns was expressed as transcendence of time and space, harmony of spirit and materials, and convergence of a region and religion. On the aspect that our ancestors interpreted and overcame the bounds of nature around human beings, pursued the ideal beyond reality and accepted a variety of thoughts, it is considered that the patterns used in gilt bronze shoes expressed anthropocentricism, idealism and inclusivism.

  • Humans desire the achievement a of sense of unity between themselves and place to create an identity of place as a realization of his or her sense of belonging. Humans develop ideas from their culture and environment to be expressed physically within the landscape through symbols. Symbols are formed within a place through the structure of the space and, more visually, through the details. The purpose of this paper is to examine the structure of space and the details of 'the Courtyard of the lions' in the Alhambra and to study how the details influence the formation of the identity of place. This paper also compares the structure and details in terms of the meaning of symbols, design languages, cultural, social and historical background and the experience of the place. The structure of the space in 'the Courtyard of the Lions' represents Paradise in the Islamic religion a common theme in the composition of traditional Islamic gardens. The design languages expressed within the structure are order, balance, accent and enclosure; the inherit meanings of the structure are religion, the natural environment and way of life. The details tell of the ideology of Paradise, royalty, nature, and praise of God, while their design languages include physical and visual continuity, accent, variation, the feeling of movement, rhythm, and depth perception. The details also express the historical background of the Dynasty of Nasrid and the style of Mudejar. The name 'the Courtyard of the Lions' was taken from the detail of the lim figures, details within the landscape which are important in building an identity of place. This study demonstrates that the details at 'the Courtyard of the lions' achieved a sense of unity between man and place. In conclusion, details have immense influence in building of the identity of place.

  • Oral literature can largely be categorized into myth, legend, and folktales, which are stories orally transmitted from the prehistoric times. The purpose of this study is to compare the discourse on the oral literature of the East and the West from a cultural studies viewpoint by focusing on its "symbolic systems," particularly "figures of speech," or "tropic traits", in order to utilize this oral literature as a resource in the study of Northeast Asian culture. Undergoing modernization, the symbolic meaning of oral literature has been demythologized both in the West and in Northeast Asia. Of course, oral literature, verbally transmitted over a long period of time, has naturally been changed over time and even "contaminated" in a sense by losing its original archaic archetype while it was textualized with letters during the early period of the modernization process. Nevertheless, the principle of "resemblance" and "similarity" between nature/universe and human/humanity, which has been stripped away in modernity, can still be found in oral literature with its mythic power. For this reason, the study of oral literature in the West has attempted to restore the lost magical power within it, particularly in myth. As such, this study delves into the symbolism of the mythic thought of Northeast Asian countries, namely Korea, China, and Japan, which has been lost in the course of their compressed modernization, in relation to the tropic figures of their oral literatures.
