  • This study examines the process of Chou Sun-Ae's spiritual formation in the light of Carl Jung's conception of individuation. Spirituality is defined in different ways by different scholars, but most consider self-transcendence as a necessary element. This self-transcendence can occur in the relationship with self, with others, and with the transcendent. In the relationship with the self, it appears as self-objectification; with others, it is as moving toward others; and in the relationship with the transcendent, it moves toward the transcendent. Spirituality is closely related to individual identity, in that it surrounds and integrates life. Spiritual formation is thus closely related to Jung's concept of individuation, as this involves the separation of persona and ego, and shadow recognition which are closely related to the level of self-objectification. In addition, the withdrawal of shadow projection that occurs in individuation is closely related to moving toward others, in that it recognizes the shadow instead of blaming others, allowing one to look at others without prejudice. The fact that Jesus Christ is the symbol of the Self, the driving force of the individuation process, tells us that spirituality leading to a relationship with the transcendent God and Jung's theory are closely related to each other. Thus, if we examine the process of spiritual formation through the Jung's individuation process, we can better understand the psychodynamic dimension of spirituality. This article investigates the process of Chou Sun-Ae's spiritual formation through Jung's individuation process. Throughout her 98 years, Chou Sun-Ae experienced national pain and hardships, as well as personal adversity and difficulties; but through all of these hardships, conflicts, and difficult moments, she accomplished individualization. Therefore, by examining the spiritual formation through individuation in Chou Sun-Ae, I consider the direction of Christian spiritual education. In this study, three main characteristics of Chou Sun-Ae's spiritual formation can be identified. First, through a life of repentance, the identification between persona and ego can be weakened. Second, the ego develops, and individualization is achieved, through a new calling. Third, in shadow integration, the spiritual development comes to recognize Jesus Christ on the cross and achieve the process of sanctification. Investigating the direction of Christian spiritual education through Chou Sun-Ae's spiritual formation indicates that Christian spiritual education should harmonize vertical and horizontal relations and should develop an experience of the transcendent God in everyday life. By this means, the believer can achieve Self-realization and be a true Christian who practices love for God and love for neighbors.

  • This study conducts meta-analysis of the effect size of related factors using research papers published within the past 20 years in relation to adolescent bullying experience in Korea. The verification results are as follows. First, in inducing factors, the overall effect size, personal psychology factor, and school life factor group showed a medium effect size. In the causative factors, the aggression, anxiety, stress, depression, suicidal thoughts, and school stress of school psychological factors showed a moderate effect size. Second, in terms of deterrent, the overall effect size, family environment factor, personal psychology factor, and school life factor group showed a medium effect size. In the sub-factors of determinants, the parenting attitude, parental support, and self-esteem and self-resilience of the family environmental factor group also showed a medium effect size. In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it tried to quantitatively integrate the previous studies to examine objective results. • The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of death anxiety among community-dwelling elderly cancer survivors in Korea. This study was a descriptive correlation study with 216 elderly cancer survivors who live in the jurisdiction of community health centers in Chugbuk province. Data of this study were collected from February 27 to March 15 2019 by a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. In the results, the mean score of death anxiety was 2.47±0.39 out of 4.0, while that of ego integrity was 2.60±0.29, depression 6.35±4.0, and awareness of a good death 2.97±0.35. Based on the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, subjects' awareness of a good death had the greatest impact on death anxiety (β = 0.255, p < .001), followed by depression (β = 0.185, p = .020) and religion (no= 1; β= 0.148, p = .021). These factors explained 16.4% of death anxiety (F=8.04, p<.001). Therefore, the results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic data for developing an intervention program that will be designed to reduce the death anxiety in elderly cancer survivors.

  • Authenticity is the opposite of hypocrisy or deceitful living in philosophy. While various positive factors that humans experience in life based on authenticity have been studied abroad, most of the studies in Korea that tried to measure authenticity did not take into account the characteristics of Korean culture or were developed only for the purpose of use in a limited domain or specific purpose. In this study, based on the specificity of Korean culture, we developed a measure of authenticity that researchers can use universally. To this end, the items constituting the existing authenticity scale and the items reflecting the cultural value of Korean society, which value social relationships, are integrated. The results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that authenticity consists of three factors: self-awareness, behavioral authenticity, and relationship authenticity. In addition, criterion validity was verified based on correlations with life satisfaction, mindfulness, self-esteem, HEXACO, social desirability, self-regulation focus, and emotional diversity. These results suggest that the authenticity scale of this study is a reliable and valid measure, and is expected to be an important tool for empirical individual differences research on authenticity in everyday life in Korean population.
