This study examined the effects of children's temperament, self-control and maternal parenting on children's playfulness. The subjects of this study were 288 3-, 4- and 5- years old children and their mothers. The collected data were analyzed by correlations and pathway analysis. The results were as follows: First, children's sex, sociability temperament, self-control and maternal authoritarian parenting directly affected children's playfulness. Children's sex indirectly affected children's playfulness through children's activity level and self-control. Children's sociability and emotionality temperament indirectly affected children's playfulness through maternal authoritarian parenting. Maternal authoritarian parenting indirectly children's playfulness affected through children's self-control. Second, the most important variable predicting children's playfulness was maternal authoritarian parenting.
The purpose of this study was to search for empirical evidence between internalized shame with self-control, aggression, and addiction potential. Also examine the differences between clinical group and normal group. The data was collected from 100 AA participants and 380 Non-AA participants. For measuring each variable, internalizes shame scale(ISS), self-control rating scale(SCRS), Buss-Durkee Hostility inventory(BDH), addiction potential scale(APS) were used. The survey result was analyzed with Pearson Correlation, Partial correlation and t-test. The results shows: Frist, the internalized shame and the aggression, the addiction potential shows a positive correlation but the self-control shows negative correlation. Second, after control self-control, internalized shame positively correlate to addiction potential and aggression. Third, clinical group recorded a higher level in internalized shame, aggression and addiction potential than normal group; a lower level in self-control. Based on the finding, the implications of understandings, the interventions, the limitations of this study, and the suggestions were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to 1) explore the effectiveness of a college-level self-management (SM) course in improving a target behavior and reducing impulsivity, 2) investigate improvements in other non-target self-control behaviors(generalization of self-control), and 3) determine whether change in impulsivity could predict the generalization of self-control. A total of 128 College students who took the SM course were included. Participants completed the computerized delay-discounting task, self-report impulsiveness scale, and general self-control behavior questionnaire at the beginning and end of the course. After participants had defined their target behaviors, they self-monitored and recorded their behaviors everyday throughout the course. Results revealed that 63% of the participants successfully changed their target behaviors after the course. Although differing depending on the type of target behavior, thoes who successfully changed their target behaviors reported decreases in impulsivity and increases in other self-control behaviors such as physical exercise, healthy diet, study habits, and time management, after the course. Furthermore, the decrease of impulsivity significantly predicted the generalization of self-control in the exercise and diet groups. The results indicate that reduced impulsivity is related to improvements in a target behavior and general self-control behaviors in other spheres. Implications and limitations are also discussed.
This study aimed to explore how the AIDS knowledge, self esteem, sense of control and optimistic bias affect condom use among male college students. The survey was done among 323 male students within a university in B city and analyzed according to descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The students had optimistic bias regarding AIDS, and the scores on the AIDS knowledge, self esteem, and sense of control were all rated high. Self esteem and sense of control, sense of control and optimistic bias, sense of control and condom use on sexual intercourse with steady sex partner, condom use on with casual sex partners and with steady sex partner showed significant positive correlation. Self esteem and sense of control were predictors of condom use on sexual intercourse with steady sex partner. Additional studies among various groups should be followed to identify the relationship between variables and condom use.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of moral elevation and self control on the relationship between moral identity, character strengths, family strengths, and altruistic behavior in the times of convergence. The collected data were analyzed by SEM. The results of this study were as follows: First, moral self has indirect effect on altruistic behavior through moral elevation and self control in turn, and character strengths, have indirect effect on altruistic behavior through moral elevation and self control and moral elevation, self control in turn, and family strengths have indirect effect on altruistic behavior through self control. Second, it was found that there was a significant gender difference in the structural weights of character strengths and moral elevation.
This study examined the structural relationship among personal belief in a just world, presence of meaning in life, self-control, and aggression in college students. For this research, self-reported data from 427 college students were analyzed by gender, using structural equation modeling. Results indicated that personal belief in a just world predicted aggression regardless of gender. The mediating effect of self-control was non-significant among both women and men groups. The mediating effect of presence of meaning in life and self-control was significant among only women. It means that personal belief in a just world predicted presence of meaning in life and self-control, which consequently contributed to aggression among women. It is noteworthy that this study examined the concrete mechanism to reduce aggression by gender. Based on these findings, intervention strategies were discussed.
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationships among college students' life stress, self-efficacy, locus of control, and subjective well-being. A total of 279 college students participated in this study. It was administered a questionnaire consisting of questioned of concerning life stress, self-efficacy, locus of control, and subjective well-being. The correlation analysis and the analysis of mediating effect were conducted on the data. The main results of data analysis showed (1) correlations among life stress, self-efficacy, locus of control, and subjective well-being, (2) significant mediating effect of self-efficacy between life stress and subjective well-being. The direction of a further study was suggested.
This study aims to explain the effect of mother's child rearing behavior on aggression of young children and to verify the mediating effect of self-control between two variables. For the purpose, 1,524 children who fit this study among children aged 5 through 7th year of the Korean Children's Panel were selected. The data were analyzed by using the hierarchical regression method and the Sobel test. The main findings are as follows. First, the mother's warmth of rearing behavior was shown to decrease aggression of children, while mother's control of rearing behavior had no influence their aggression. Second, It was shown that the self-control of young children had a negative effect on their aggression. Third, self-control was shown to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the mother's warmth of rearing behavior and aggression of children. Accordingly, various programs to reduce the aggression of young children were suggested and an alternative plan was proposed to be applied to child care sites.

Recently, contests for college students have emerged as an important factor in employment through self-development, and parents' psychological control on college students can prevent the development of autonomy by suppressing decisions and expressions without helping their children become independent. Therefore, this study aims to find out how the parental psychological control perceived by college students affects the motivation to participate in the contest through self-determination. As a result of the study, first, it was found that the psychological control of separation anxiety of parental psychological control negatively affects only the competence among self-determination. Second, it was found that achievement-oriented parental psychological control had a negative effect on all factors of self-determination. Third, it was found that among self-determination factors, competence had a positive effect on pleasure, financial reward, and recognition of others, and a negative effect on a sense of accomplishment. Fourth, it was found that the relationship among self-determination factors had a positive effect on pleasure, financial compensation, and recognition of others. The results of this will be used as basic data to understand the motivation of college students to participate in the contest and the psychological control of their parents.
The aim of this study was to explain the mediating effects of self-control in the relationship between academic stress and impulse buying tendency. Participants were recruited from one nursing university student located in Gwangju and J city. Data were collected from 145 nursing university student. The SPSS WIN 23.0 version was used with Sobel test and Baron and Kenny's mediating effect. It was investigated whether there was a mediating effect of self-control on academic stress and impulse buying tendency. First, academic stress showed a significant effect on impulse buying tendency. Second, Self-control had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between academic stress and impulse buying tendency(z=-2.69, p<.001). To reduce the impulse buying tendency among nursing university student, it is necessary to develop education·non-education interventions that promotion self-control in addition to decreasing academic stress.
