Dynamic Behaviors of an Impact System under Randomly Perturbed Harmonic Excitation by the Path-Integral Solution Procedure (Path-Integral Solution을 이용한 랜덤동요된 조화가진력을 받는 임팩트시스템의 거동분석)

  • Nonlinear system responses of an impact system under randomly perturbed harmonic excitations are predicted in the probability domain by adopting the semi-analytical procedure previously developed. The semi-analytical procedure is obtained by solving the Fokker-Planck equation corresponding to the stochastic differential equation of the given impact system by utilizing the path-integral solution. The evolutionary joint probability density functions are generated by using the method, and the characteristics of nonlinear dynamic response behaviors of the system are examined. Noise effects on the responses are also examined. It Is found that the semi-analytical method can provides the accurate information of the responses via the joint probability functions for the impact system. It is found that the noises weaken and eventually terminate the chaos in the responses, but it is also found that the chaotic signatures reside in the presence of the external noise with relatively high intensity. The joint probability density function shows that the ensemble of the system responses are weakly stationary.

Haptic System to Provide the Realistic Sensation of Virtual Impact (사실적인 가상 임팩트 감각 전달을 위한 햅틱 시스템)

  • As an effort to maximize the immersiveness of user experience in virtual reality, there have been constant efforts to provide a user with tactile sensation by providing haptic feedback. Most of the haptic feedback methods, however, can create only limited or unrealistic haptic sensations since they utilize affordable actuators such as a vibrotactile actuator. When it comes to martial arts training or a game, the limitation of such haptic feedback is apparent due to the significant difference between the physical impact of hitting an object and the sensation departed from a vibrotactile actuator. Noting this, we proposed a haptic impact system that can create a haptic impact when the user hits a virtual object with the fist. The haptic interface uses a quick-return mechanism that can deliver haptic impact feedback to a user's fist. The realism of the haptic impact was evaluated by conducting a human-subject experiment. The results indicate a significant effect of haptic feedback on the realism of the virtual impact.

  • A weighted impact ellipsoid normalized by maximum allowable angular velocity changes is defined and compared with conventional impact ellipsoids and impact polytopes. The results shows that the conventional impact ellipsoid may give false solution as far as the optimal direction of motion is concerned.

Muscle Activity in T-ball Swing with Down Syndrome's Children (다운증후군 아동의 T-ball 스윙 시 근육활동 규명)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscle activities of pectoralis major, upper serratus, lat dorsi, anterior deltoid, rhomboids, infraspinatus, and posterior deltoid using Noraxon 8 channels EMG system during T-ball swing in children with Down syndrome. Five Down syndrome, one healthy children, and one baseball adult player were participated in the study. Down syndrome's children showed higher muscle activity than one healthy children and one baseball adult player during address to backswing and backswing to impact swing phase. While Down syndrome's children showed lower muscle activity than one healthy children and one baseball adult player during impact to follow swing phase. The strength of the pectoralis major and upper serratus muscle may help to improve T-ball swing movement during impact to follow swing phase.

  • 선진국 및 국내에서도 붐이 일고 있는 스포츠 중에서 골프는 빼놓을 수 없는 위치의 스포츠이다. 그러나 골프는 필드에서 클럽만을 가지고 즉시 경기를 할 수 있는 운동이 아니다. 필드에 나가기 전 많은 연습과정을 통해 충분한 자세의 습득과 정확한 샷을 할 수 있는 운동의 선행 과정을 먼저 거쳐야 한다. 그러나 골프의 자세를 교습하기 위해서는 지도자의 직접적인 교정이 필수적 이였으나 이는 교습비의 부담 증가로 이어져 골프를 대중화하기 어렵게 하는 한 가지 요인 이였으며, 또한 타격 연습을 위한 기존의 골프 연습기는 단순히 공을 타격위치에 가져다 놓기만 할 뿐이기 때문에 연습자 자신의 자세를 확인할 수 없어 잘못된 자세를 익히게 되는 경우가 발생한다.(중략)

  • First, three point bending analysis for the inclined press door impact beam was carried out to investigate inclination angle effect on the maximum strength with varying support distance. Next, for the system model with spring elements representing body stiffness at door mounting area, the bending structural behavior of impact beam mounted on vehicle was estimated. The mounting distance and inclination angle were changed and the beam bending buckling strength was presumed at the head displacement below which spring stiffness change has little effect on the load. Finally strength ratio to predict the bending buckling strength of impact beam mounted on vehicle from three point bending maximum strength of fixed support distance was suggested.

  • This paper presents technologies to improve the control of an impact wrench. Impact wrench is a tool which is held by the electro-mechanical manipulator and used to fasten and loosen the bolts for remote maintenance of equipment in hostile environment. Vision system was developed to measure the distance and improve the positioning of the impact wrench. The vision system used two laser beams with a CCTV camera. Also, a torque adjusting method was developed to limit the fastening torque.

  • After many years of proliferation, the nuclear industry is indebted for a formidable consequence, the safe management of spent fuel. Naturally, the high radioactivity involved with such process motivates the development of effective telerobotic systems. Nevertheless, the existing master-slave type of tele manipulators are limited in effectiveness by the human operator's limited sensory and manipulation capabilities. This paper presents the result of a research effort to resolve such problems by assigning the slave manipulator a certain degree of intelligence; sensing and actuation. In the presented system, a perception-action loop is achieved using ultrasonic range sensor and laser distance sensor interfaced with the PUMA 760 industrial robot system, and applied to automating impact wrenching task for unbolting the lid of nuclear spent fuel cask. The perception-action loop performs determination of the cask location, collision avoidance and centering of the impact wrench onto the bolt head. To aid the insertion task and to provide versatility a mounting module consisting of an RCC device and an automatic tool changer is designed and implemented. The performance of the developed system is tested on the model cask and the result is given.

  • The computer-based simulation tools are currently used overwhelmingly to simulate the performance of automotive designs. Then, the search for an optimal solution that satisfies a number of performance requirements usually involves numerous iterations among several simulation tools. Therefore, meta-modeling techniques are becoming widely used to build approximations of computationally expensive computer analysis tools. The set-based approach proposed in the first report of a four-part paper has been a test bed for the innovation of vehicle structure design process in the Structural Design and Fabrication Committee of JSAE(Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan). In the second report, the proposed design approach is illustrated with a side-door impact beam design example using meta-modeling techniques.
