  • This study examined the effects of work-family spillover on the organizational attachment of female managers. The 4th and 5th data sets of Korean Women Manager Panel Survey established by the Korean Women's Development Institute were merged and the 5th data set for female managers was analyzed. The findings reveal that work-family support relationship is an important factor for strengthening the organizational attachment on the part of female managers. For working women, organizational support and family support is the most significant driving force for retaining their career. Second, negative spillover from family to work rather than that from work to family had a stronger impact on the organizational attachment of female managers. This finding suggests that women are not free from their status in the family, and that conflict relationships originating from the family ha a stronger impact on women's organizational attachment than that generated from work. Third, the third stage model incorporates the interaction terms of work-family spillover and organizational culture. The results showed that the interaction effect alone remains. In particular, family-work positive spillover exerts positive (+) effects on the organizational attachment only if a rational organizational culture is in place. Work-family negative spillover, however, shows negative (-) effects under rational organizational culture. Family-work negative spillover combined with rational organizational culture reinforces the organizational attachment, but has negative (-) effects under traditional organizational culture. The implications might be that women may experience negative family to work spillover, which may weaken their organizational attachment and that a rational organizational culture can reverse the spillover effect and increase the organizational attachment of female managers. No interaction effect of organizational culture appears for work to family negative spillover. A differential effect by the direction of spillover requires further study. In addition, more study will be needed to develop a more integrative model with the relevant variables not included in this study and sub-group analyses will be needed to ascertain the differences within female managers.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of implementation of the healthcare accreditation system on patient safety, quality of medical care, organization culture and management performance of convalescent hospitals. Ten hospitals were selected at random from among 36 convalescent hospitals in Daegu that had obtained accreditation until September 2015. To accomplish this, hospital staff were surveyed from 15 February to 25 March, 2016 using a questionnaire with 253 objects. We investigated how the healthcare accreditation system has influenced patient safety, service quality, organization culture and performance of hospital management. The change in the treatment support system showed the highest score of 3.93 among quality change and medical service items, while that of personnel source culture showed the highest score of 3.78 points among organization culture items, and that of internal process view, study and growth view showed the highest score of 3.71 among management performance items. Multiple regression analysis revealed that factors positively changing hospital management performance were nurses, employees and managers, basic value systems, organization culture, personnel source culture, open system culture, hierarchical culture, and production oriented culture. The quality of patient safety and medical care was positively influenced by changes in the quality of convalescent hospitals after implementation of the healthcare accreditation system. However, among the four types of organizational culture, the financial perspective was relatively low compared to other perspectives.

  • This study explored how the family-friendly culture of married employees is related to family strength and verified the mediating effects of work-life balance in such a relationship. The study included 213 married employees aged from their 20s to their 60s. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0, and the Baron and Kenny (1986) method was used to perform descriptive statistics, difference verification, regression analysis, and mediation analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows. First, the differences between the general characteristics of married employees and family strength were analyzed. Among the general characteristics, married employees in their 60s were found to have a higher level of family strength compared with other married employees in their 40s-50s and 20s-30s. Furthermore, married employees with higher education (higher than college or graduate school education), with supporters, with a household income of more than 6.01 million KRW, and with positions higher than middle management were found to have higher levels of family strength compared with their counterparts in each case. Second, hierarchical regression was performed to analyze the factors affecting family strength; the younger the age, the higher the level of family-friendly culture and work-life balance, and the higher the level of family strength of married employees. Third, according to Baron and Kenny's(1986) mediation analysis, the balance between work and life had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between a family-friendly culture and family strength. Therefore, a family-friendly culture and work-life balance were verified to be important factors that can serve as alternatives for improving the family strength of married employees.

  • This paper examined the changes of urban system through the network and the flow pattern reflected in daily movement in Korea. Because daily movement reflects trip pattern, urban system formed by inter-city linkages can be recognized in terms of living sphere. While population movements between cities have the number of linkage systems of city network and the number of traffic regions composed of the origin and destination has increased respectively. Nevertheless, spatial extent of Capital region and Busan region has been expanded. In Gangwon-do in which Seoul-oriented high-speed transportation network has developed, separation of living sphere between Yeongdong area and the Soyanggang cultural region formed around Chuncheon was intensified. Living sphere that includes Daejeon and the surrounding cities has been expanded to the southern Gyeonggi-do. The existing living sphere formed in Jeollanam-do was fragmented into the east and west around Mokpo and Suncheon due to the weakened centrality of Gwangju. Living spheres formed by spatial interaction were consistent with regional administrative boundary. Considering the increased interaction between Seoul and its surrounding cities, the development of global city-region centered on Seoul is expected.
