Variationsin Air and Ground Temperatures During a Frozen Season in the Subalpine Zone of Mt. Halla (한라산 아고산대의 동결기 기온 및 지온변화)

  • In order to examine the temperature regime responsible for periglacial processes, air and ground temperatures were monitored from October 2010 to May 2011 at a subalpine bare patch (1,710m asl) of Mt. Halla. Four thermistor sensor probes were installed at 55 cm above a ground surface and depths of 2 cm, 10 cm, and 20 cm, respectively. A mean air temperature is $-0.1^{\circ}C$, while mean ground temperatures are $1.8^{\circ}C$ at 2 cm, $2.6^{\circ}C$ at 10 cm and $3.2^{\circ}C$ at 20 cm deep. A mean monthly ground temperature at 2 cm deep demonstrates below $0^{\circ}C$ successively from January to March, while those at 10 cm and 20 cm deep show no sub-zero temperature. A total of 72 freeze-thaw cycle was observed in air temperature. However, the numbers in ground temperature reduced into 17 at 2 cm, 8 at 10 cm, and 3 at 20 cm deep. The cycles of air temperature and ground temperature at 2 cm deep mostly fluctuated diurnally, while those of ground temperature at 10 cm and 20 cm deep exhibited a several-daily oscillation. Snow cover over 55 cm high remained from January to early April, and it seemed to disappear completely on April 16. A seasonal frost of at least 2 cm thick was formed on late December and the isotherm of $0^{\circ}C$ descended slowly into 10 cm deep on late March to early April due to the insulating snow cover. It showed the maximum freezing depth of 20 cm on April 7 to 14 and then thawed rapidly so that the frozen ground did not longer after April 17. Periglacial processes are predominant during a freezing period than a thawing period when the ground surface is still covered with snow. The periglacial mass movement in the subalpine zone of Mt. Halla is mainly generated by frost creep in terms of the occurrence depth of diurnal freeze-thaw cycle and the maximum freezing depth of ground.

  • The temperature and humidity of dirt-walled storehouse are observed in order to verify the traditional storehouse (main material : soil) during 7days (4th. $Sep{\sim}10th$. Sep). Because the width of the daily variation of temperature is small as $2.5^{\circ}C{\sim}5^{\circ}C$, the reduction of energy supply for low temperature is expected. Because the relative humidity is high and it's variation is small ($4%{\sim}9%$), the inner humidity of dirt-walled storehouse is easily maintained above 80% is expected.

Assessment of Thermal Stress in Temporary Bridge (가교량의 온도응력 평가)

  • The temporary steel bridges which are constructed for detour and constructional expediency are consisted of H-beams(as superstructure) and H-piles(as substructure). Because these members are fastened by high-tension bolts, there are no expansion joints in these bridges. So, these kinds of bridges have no system which can relieve the excessive thermal stress. In this investigation, monitoring system was set up at temporary steel bridge and stress and temperature changes of H-beam are monitored. From these measured data, it is analyzed that the relationship between ambient and main-girder temperature change, between temperature and stress change. With these analyses, it is resulted that the thermal stress take main part of stress variation in this bridge and the restrain of thermal longitudinal displacement of H-pile. In addition, because the connection part of H-beam to H-beam is weak in the continuous spans, the sub-modelling is well apt to reflect the effect of thermal stress.

  • 이상기후 현상으로 기후변화가 사회와 경제에 미치는 영향이 뚜렷한 추세로 변화되고 있다. 현재 기후변화에 관련된 연구는 사회 시스템에서 위험관리를 위해 기온과 강수량에 따라 다양한 분야에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구를 중점으로 이뤄지고 있다. 본 연구는 여름철 폭염에 의한 기후변화가 하천수질에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위한 것으로, 우리나라 기상청 91개의 기상관측소에서 일일온도 33℃ 이상의 이벤트를 대상으로 환경부 수질관측망 918개에 대한 14개의 하천수질인자인 DO, BOD, COD, TOC, DOC, TN, DTN, NH4-N, NO2-N, NO3-N, TP, DTP, PO4-P, Chl-a를 분석하였다. 이를 우리나라 117개 중권역별 하천수질과 폭염강도와 지속시간을 나타내는 폭염 지수를 산정하여 분석하였다. 폭염 관련 뉴스 데이터는 2013년부터 2019년까지 Python 기반 뉴스 크롤러를 이용해 폭염 취약지수(Heat Wave Vulnerability Index, HWVI)를 기준으로 분류하여 키워드를 수집하였으며 HWVI 중 '기후노출' 키워드와 관련된 기사는 총 22,514건으로 69.9%로 수집되었다. 공간적 영향 평가를 위해 Getis-Ord Gi*를 이용하여 폭염지수와 하천수질인자간 핫스팟 분석을 실시하고 폭염관련 빅데이터가 하천수질에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 폭염지수는 낙동강유역 하류에 대해 Chl-a, TN, TP 항목에서 높은 밀도를 보였다. 분석대상지역 내 폭염이 발생한 확률과 반경 밖에서 발생할 확률의 우도비를 분석하기 위해 SaTScan을 이용한 공간검색통계분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 폭염지수와 DO의 공간상관성이 높은 것으로 나타났다.

The Influence of Pretreatment Period, 2-Hydroxynicotinic Acid and Anther Co-pretreatment on Embryo Induction in Isolated Microspore Culture of Capsicum annuum L. (고추의 나출 소포자 배양시 전처리 기간, 2-Hydroxynicotinic Acid 및 약-공동전처리가 소포자배 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • Microspores were isolated from pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) anthers by using a micro-blender and cultured in modified NLN medium at $25^{\circ}C$. The influence of pretreatment period at $32^{\circ}C$, adding the 2-hydroxynicotinic acid to a pretreatment medium, and co-pretreatment anthers with microscopes on the induction of embryo were examined. Globular and torpedo embryos were observed from 3 weeks after culture. Embryo development was not synchronized within culture. After 4 weeks in culture, in addition to globular and torpedo embryos, cotyledonary embryos were observed. Normal cotylodonary embryos developed into plantlets when transferred to a solid hormone free B5 medium containing $2\%$ sucrose. Embryo yields were significantly higher after 1- and 2-day pretreatment at $32^{\circ}C$. However the development of embryo ceased at the globular or heart stage. In contrast, embryo yields were lower after 3- to 6-day pretreatment at $32^{\circ}C$ and embryo developed at the cotyledonary stage. After adding the 2-hydroxynicotinic acid to anther pretreatment solution, embryo yields were slightly increased. However most embryos occurred were at the globular or heart stage. Co-pretreatment of microspores with anthers was deleterious for embryo induction and development. AS far as we know, this is the first report of success in obtaining high frequency of embryogenesis and plantlets formation from isolated microspores of pepper. Although the culture conditions have to be optimized further, this promising microspore culture system can be used for genetic transformation, selection for dominant and recessive traits as well as for the production of homozygous doubled haploid plants.

Managerial Implication of Trails in the Teabaeksan National Park Derived from the Analysis of Visitors Behaviors Using Automatic Visitor Counter Data (탐방객 자동 계수기 데이터를 활용한 태백산국립공원 탐방로 탐방 행태 분석 및 관리 방안 제언)

  • This study built a model to predict the daily number of visitors to 18 trails in the Taebaeksan National Park using the auto-counter system data to analyze the factors affecting the daily number of visitors to each trail and classified the trails by visitors' behaviors. Results of the multiple regression models with the daily number of visitors of the 18 trails indicated that the events, such as the National Foundation Day celebration of Snow Festival, affected the number of visitors of all of the 18 trails and were the most critical factor that determined the daily number of visitors to the Taebaeksan National Park. The long-holidays of three days or longer and other national holidays also affected the daily number of visitors to the trails. Precipitation had a negative impact on the number of visitors of trails where the intention of most visitors was for sightseeing or camping instead of hiking, whereas had no significant impacts on the number of visitors of trails where many visitors intended for hiking. It indicated that visitors who intended for hiking went ahead hiking even if the weather was poor. The effects of temperature had a positive effect on the number of visitors who intended for hiking but a negative effect on the number of visitor to the trails near Danggol Plaza where the Snow Festival was held in each winter, suggesting that the impact of the Snow Festival was the deterministic factor for trail management. Results of K-mean clustering showed that the 18 trails of the Taekbaeksan National Park could be classified into three types: those affected by the Snow Festival (type 1), those that have sightseeing points and so were visited mostly by non-hikers (type 2), and those visited mostly by hikers (type 3). Since visitor behaviors and illegal actions differ according to the trail type, this study's results can be used to prepare a trail management plan based on the trail characteristics.

Effect of Day/Night Temperatures during Seedling Culture on the Growth and Nodes of Early Flower Cluster Set of 'Seokwang' Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) (육묘시의 주야간 기온이 서광 토마토의 생육 및 초기 착화 절위에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to examine the effect of day/nignt temperatures during seedling culture on the vegetative and reproductive growth of Lycopersicum esculentum ‘Seokwang’. The study was consisted of two culture stages, plug seedling production in the growth chamber and hydroponic culture of the plant in a glasshouse. Experiments were replicated over time. The germinated seedlings were raised for 33 days (experiment 1) and 35 days (experiment 2) in 4 growth chambers, each with day/night temperatures of either $25^{\circ}C$/$25^{\circ}C$, 16$^{\circ}C$/16$^{\circ}C$, 16$^{\circ}C$/$25^{\circ}C$ or $25^{\circ}C$/16$^{\circ}C$. Cool-white fluorescent lamps provided 140$\mu$mol.m$^{-2}$ .s$^{-1}$ light for 12h each day. In the second experiment, all chambers were supplied with 1000$\mu$mol.mol$^{-1}$ CO$_{2}$ during the photoperiod and had an air velocity of 0.3m.s$^{-1}$ and relative humidity of 80%. Plug seedlings raised were transplanted to rockwool slabs in a glasshouse and were grown hydroponically using the same nutrient solutions used for seedling culture for 37 days (experiment 1) and 35 days (experiment 2). Plant height was affected more by mean daily temperature than by interaction of day and night temperatures. Plant height was the highest in 16/16$^{\circ}C$ treatment. Leaf count was not affected by day and night temperatures, and the chlorophyll concentration was the highest in 16/$25^{\circ}C$ treatment. Fresh and dry weights of stem tended to be greater in treatments of constant day and night temperature. The number of node on which first and second flower clusters were set was significantly higher in 25/$25^{\circ}C$ treatment than in the other treatments. Days to flower of the first flower on the first flower cluster were the greatest in 25/$25^{\circ}C$ and the least in 16/$25^{\circ}C$ treatment. Vegetative and reproductive growth, such as height, fresh and dry weights, days to flower, and nodes of the 1st and 2nd flower cluster set were affected by day/night temperatures.

Climate-related Changes in Fruit Growth of 'Fuyu' Persimmon during the Harvest Season (수확기 동안의 기상 변화에 따른 '부유' 감의 과실 생장)

  • Relationships among climate changes, early frost, and fruit growth were studied during the final month to harvest of late-maturing 'Fuyu' persimmon (Diospyros kaki) to assess the changes in fruit characteristics during this critical period. The heavy frost on Nov. 16 defoliated more than 70% of the leaves, but with little damage on the fruits. However, all the leaves were defoliated by the heavy frost on Nov. 20, and all the fruits were cold-damaged by $-3.3^{\circ}C$ on Nov. 21. Fruit weight increased by 8-25 g per week from Oct. 25 (142 days after full bloom) to Nov. 15, reaching to 250 g, but it decreased by 3-4 g per week after the frost. Hunter a value of fruit skin gradually increased until the last harvest on Nov. 29 with a temporary halt in early Nov. when temperature was high, whereas fruit firmness rapidly decreased after the frost on Nov. 21. Fruit soluble solids were $15.7-16.1^{\circ}Brix$ for the final month. When some branches were covered with non-woven fabrics to avoid direct contact with frost, the fruits on the branches were not visually damaged by the low temperature although 40-60% of their leaves were defoliated on Nov. 16. However, low temperature on Nov. 20 and 21 defoliated all the leaves, causing cold damage on the fruits. There was a highly significant correlation between the fruit diameter and its weight ($R^2$ = 0.73-0.91). So, the regression equations could be used to estimate weight from diameter of the fruits sampled from the branches with the non-woven fabrics. The calculated fruit weight reached to a maximum of 240 g on Nov. 15. Daily increases in fruit weight were 1.1-2.5 g from Oct. 25 to 31, 1.9-3.5 g from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7, and 1.4-1.6 g from Nov. 7 to 12. However, fruit weight decreased by 0.3-1 g per day after the cold damage on Nov. 21. The results indicate that the most appropriate harvest time could be dependent on relationship of fruit growth to climate.

Finite Difference Model of Unsaturated Soil Water Flow Using Chebyshev Polynomials of Soil Hydraulic Functions and Chromatographic Displacement of Rainfall (Chebyshev 다항식에 의한 토양수분특성 및 불포화 수리전도도 추정과 부분 치환 원리에 의한 강우 분포를 이용한 토양수분 불포화 이동 유한차분 수리모형)

  • We developed a mathematical simulation model to portray the vertical distribution of soil water from the measured weather data and the known soil hydraulic properties, and then compared simulation results with the periodically measured soil water profiles obtained on Jungdong sandy loam to verify the model, In this model, we solved potential-based Richards' equation by the implicit finite difference method superimposed on the predictor-corrector scheme. We presumed that: soil hydraulic properties are homogeneous; soil water flows isothermally; hysteresis is not considered; no vapor flows; no heat transfers into the soil profiles; and water added to soil surface is distributed along the soil profile following partial displacement principle. The input data were broadly classified into two groups: (1) daily weather data such as rainfall, maximum and minimum air temperatures, relative humidity and solar radiation and (2) soil hydraulic data to approximate unsaturated hydraulic conductivity and water retention. Each hydraulic polynomial function approximated using the Chebyshev polynomial and least square difference technique in tandem showed a fairly good fit of the given set of data. Vertical distribution of soil water as approximations to the Richards' equation subject to changing surface and phreatic boundaries was solved numerically during 53 days with a comparatively large time increment, and this pattern agreed well with field neutron scattering data, except for the surface 0.1 m slab.

  • 기상 수치예보는 (Numerical Weather Pridiction, NWP)는 바람, 기온, 등과 같은 기상요소의 시간 변화를 나타내는 물리방정식을 컴퓨터로 풀어 미래의 대기 상태를 예상하는 과학적인 방법으로 지구를 상세한 격자 2진부호(GRIdded Binary, 이하 GRIB)로 나누어 그 격자점에서의 값으로 대기 상태를 나타낸다. 지구 각지에서의 각종 관측자료를 기초로 격자점상의 현재값을 구한다. 대용량의 격자데이터는 이진형태이어서 컴퓨터, 서버 저장장치에서 동일형태 데이터로 존재한다. 우리나라 최초의 저궤도 관측 위성인 다목적 실용위성 KOMPSAT-1호(이하, 아리랑 위성1호)는 전자광학카메라(Electro Optical Camera, EOC)를 탑재하여 1999년 12월 21일에 발사된 이후 2006년 1월 현재까지 6여년간 성공적으로 임무를 수행, 7049여회의 영상을 획득하여 국가적으로 귀중한 자료로 활용하고 있다. 아리랑 위성1호는 일일 2-3회 EOC영상을 획득하고 있으며, 임무계획(Mission Planning)은 MP(Mission Planner)가 사용자로부터 자료를 수집하여 임무분석 및 계획 서브시스템(MAPS)에 의해 계산되어진 위성의 제도예측 데이터에 촬영하고자하는 목표지점 좌표를 입력하여 자동명령생성기(KSCG)에 의해 계산된 촬영 경사각도(Tilt)값을 위성에 전송하여 목표지역의 영상을 획득하게 된다. 위성영상 획득에 있어 고가의 위성을 운영하면서 기상의 상태를 정확히 예측하여 실패없이 유효한 영상을 획득하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 위성임무계획을 위한 기상수치예보 자료를 분석하여 앞으로 발사하게 될 고해상 카메라 탑제위성인 아리랑 위성2호와 3호에 적용하고자 한다. the sufficient excess reactivity to override this poisoning must be inserted, or its concentration is decreased sufficiently when its temporary shutdown is required.
