  • Background : The goal of this study was to examine the health behaviors of nurses and provide basic information on health promotion for nurses. Materials and Methods : A self-administered questionnaire survey was completed by 340 nurses working at a university hospital in Daegu, Korea from March 6 to March 30, 2006. The questionnaire included demographic characteristics, working environment, health behaviors, self-assessed health status, and the practice of health promotion activities according to the work group(shift group vs. non-shift group). Results : There were significant differences in 'regular diet', 'drinking', 'ordinary health management', 'regular exercise', 'leisure activities', 'rest', and 'feeling of fatigue' between the two groups. The score for the practice of health promotion activities of the non-shift group was 121.9, which was higher than the 115.4 for the shift group. By field of practice of health promotion activities, there were significant differences in 'self-realization' and 'nutrition' between the two groups. Conclusion : The shift group did not appear to have enough time to take care of their health. It is therefore important to provide a working environment in which nurses are encouraged to increase their interest and efforts to maintain healthy behaviors. In addition, programs for education and training should be developed to help nurses adopt healthy life styles and enhance their self-esteem.

  • Online learning at a medical school was evaluated and improved based on the results of the evaluation and the principles of online learning environments design. The purpose of this study was to compare the results of online learning satisfaction between semesters from medical students and professors. To evaluate online learning, satisfaction surveys for an online learning platform, student participation, learning methods, learning contents, student assessments, and learning supports were developed and distributed to research participants. 223 students and 37 professors participated for the 1st semester, and 218 students and 49 professors participated for the 2nd semester, and paired t-tests were used for the analysis. Student satisfaction for the online learning platform, learning methods, learning contents, and learning supports were positively changed. However, the differences in the satisfaction for the student participation and student assessments were not statistically significant. In particular, students' satisfaction in basic medical sciences and clinical medicine periods decreased, whereas students' satisfaction in preclinical medicine and clinical clerkship periods increased. Based on the results, this study will contribute to the improvement of online learning at medical schools.

  • This study was to provide education on hand hygiene and personal protective equipment(PPE) to nursing students and to investigate the effects of knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy. This was a single group, pre-post quasi-experimental design. This study was conducted from October 28 to November 30, 2021 using a structured questionnaire targeting 18 students in the 3rd year of college nursing. Data analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-test. As a result of the study, hand hygiene knowledge (t=3.33, p=.004) and PPE knowledge (t= -11.02, p<.001) significantly increased through hand hygiene and PPE education, and attitude toward personal protective equipment (t =-2.76, p=.013) and self-efficacy (t=-3.69, p=.002) all significantly increased. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it is considered necessary to develop a systematic and repetitive hand hygiene and personal protective equipment education program, and it will be used as basic data for program development.

Data were collected from September 1 to September 30, 2017 using a structural questionnaire, which was completed by 221 nursing students in G city. The data were analyzed though descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS version 22.0. The mean scores were as follows: health promotion behaviors, $2.11{\pm}.34$; university life adaptation, $3.47{\pm}.67$; employment strategies, $3.24{\pm}.56$. A positive relationship was observed between the health promotion behaviors and university life adaptation (r=0.437, p<0.001), health promotion behaviors and employment strategies (r=0.536, p<0.001), and university life adaptation and employment strategies (r=0.615, p<0.001). Factors affecting employment strategies of the study participants were university life adaptation, health promotion behaviors, adaptation to environmental changes, and health conditions, which explained about 49.7% of the total. In conclusion, this study showed that employment strategies were correlated with promotion behaviors and university life adaptation. Therefore, it is necessary to improve curriculum, program development and repeat research to improve health promotion behaviors, university life adaptation and employment strategies.

There were 345 345 nursing freshman between November 30 and December 4 who participated in this study. The mean score of the college life adaptation, academic self-efficacy, and department satisfaction was $2.91({\pm}0.52)$, $2.79({\pm}0.60)$, and $3.55({\pm}0.47)$. The college life adaptation related with male group (p=.004), entering motivation (p=.027), friendship satisfaction (p<.001), first semester grade (p=.005), and academic self-efficacy related with male group (p=.040), entering motivation (p=.047), desired work (p=.015), friendship satisfaction (p=.014), first semester grade(p<.001), and department satisfaction related with entering motivation (p=.004), friendship satisfaction (p<.001), and first semester grade (p=.002) all showed statistical significance. There was a significant positive correlation among college life adaptation, academic self-efficacy (r=.223, p<.001), and department satisfaction (r=.342, p<.001). A significant and positive correlation was found between academic self-efficacy and department satisfaction (r=.218, p<.001). Department satisfaction was largely influenced by the college life adaptation. The regression model explained 23.1% of college life adaptation. In conclusion, this study showed that college life adaptation of freshman nursing students was correlated with academic self-efficacy and department satisfaction. Moreover, to increase the college adaptation of nursing freshman, it is necessary to develop educational programs to improve academic self-efficacy and department satisfaction.
