  • In this paper, I will critically assess E. Wilson's concept of consilience and thereby try to show the proper way that the humanities and the natural sciences could meet each other and carry out various kinds of interdisciplinary research. In section 1, I will delineate Wilson's concept of consilience. It is the core of his project of consilience to unify the humanities and the natural sciences through the natural scientific methods and therefore he claims that it is in principle possible to carry out the project of consilience. In section 2, I will examine the basic structure of knowledge in the humanities and show that, in principle, the project of consilience cannot be carried out. In section 3, I will show the difficulties that Wilson's projectof consilience has with respect to carrying out the interdisciplinary research between the humanities and the natural sciences. In section 4, I will deal with the various types and ways of properly carrying out the interdisciplinary research between the humanities and the natural sciences. In section 5, I will show that Wilson's concept of consilience has some more difficulties that are not to be discussed in detail in this paper. We also need to critically assess them in order to prepare a more solid ground for the interdisciplinary research between the humanities and the natural sciences.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify differences between KCI and Naver Scholar as citation analysis tools. Four subcategories in the humanities category were selected as the subject of study. The recall of Naver Scholar was 64%(2,227 times) and the KCI's was 77%(2,665 times). There were some differences in the results at the individual article level or the subcategory level, but the gaps were not significant. Therefore, researchers who analyze citations are urged to use both databases because neither of them are complete, but supplementary to each other.

  • Humanities is very difficult area to use the computer. However, recently, convergence trend has increase widely at all of the academic area. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a technical method to use an IT for the popularity of humanities. For this purpose, we implement a path process that use Petri-net to apply digital storytelling to humanities. We also make a structure to connect an examples and questions from sentences or articles as digital storytelling. The digital storytelling consists of six factors; author, synopsis, background, construction, view point, and user's or reader's review. Proposed method provides a process to analyze the data path of a literary work using Petri-net.

An electronic atlas offers the web service of a great deal of information without the limitation of paper, which is different from the existing paper maps. When the concept of culture is added to an electronic atlas, it becomes an electronic culture atlas. To create an application program using smartphones, their various features should be understood and the development method to maximize them is necessary. Accordingly, in this paper, what needs to be taken into consideration for the service based on smartphones and the characteristics of smartphones to be considered in the development process were examined.

  • Background: 'Here and now' in the 21st century, what should we be thinking about in this situation where infectious diseases like COVID-19 are penetrating deeply into our lives? At this point, this study aims to present the concept of 'Healing Humanities.' Purposes: If the Humanities as a liberal arts education have emphasized the value of 'communication and convergence,' putting it up as the slogan until now, the Humanities now should seek practical ways to realize their potentials. Methods: The research method was discussed centering on the literature. Results: This discussion centers around the medieval jewelry therapy by Hildegard von Bingen. That is, this study discusses how Hildegard presented gem therapy treatment as a pioneer in the jewelry therapy. Conclusions: It is meaningful that human health and diseases, which are focused on medical technology today, can now serve as a way of humanities practice, and that Hildegart's jewelry treatment can be triggered by a breakthrough. In that sense, this study aims to reveal the legitimacy of Hildegard's treatment to be secured as the Healing Humanities.

  • The present study aimed to examine how the quality of cultural program services, 'Libraries on the Road' influences users' satisfaction, quality of life, and loyalty to the cultural program services. Online surveys were conducted with users who had participated in 'Library on the Road' of public libraries, and collected 138 valid data. The study verified the hypotheses through structural equation model analysis. Findings of the study indicated that the higher the service quality of 'Library on the Road', the higher users' satisfaction. Users' satisfaction had positive effects on users' quality of life and loyalty to the services. The study extended the literature for the association between the service quality of a particular cultural program that public libraries had provided, users' satisfaction, quality of life, and loyalty to the cultural program.

  • Digital humanities, which creates new and innovative knowledge through the combination of digital information technology and humanities research problems, can be seen as a representative multidisciplinary field of study. To investigate the intellectual structure of the digital humanities field, a network analysis of authors and keywords co-word was performed on a total of 441 papers in the last two years (2019, 2020) at the Digital Humanities Conference. As the results of the author and keyword analysis show, we can find out the active activities of Europe, North America, and Japanese and Chinese authors in East Asia. Through the co-author network, 11 dis-connected sub-networks are identified, which can be seen as a result of closed co-authoring activities. Through keyword analysis, 16 sub-subject areas are identified, which are machine learning, pedagogy, metadata, topic modeling, stylometry, cultural heritage, network, digital archive, natural language processing, digital library, twitter, drama, big data, neural network, virtual reality, and ethics. This results imply that a diver variety of digital information technologies are playing a major role in the digital humanities. In addition, keywords with high frequency can be classified into humanities-based keywords, digital information technology-based keywords, and convergence keywords. The dynamics of the growth and development of digital humanities can represented in these combinations of keywords.
