  • To study on the typical domatia structure, the leaves of six broad-leaved tree species were examined. Domatia of the leaves of the broad-leaved trees is the defense strategies against hervivory of many broad-leaved tree species. We observed four type domatia; Pouch type, Tuft type, Pocket type, and Pocket + tuft type. This result suggests that broad-leaved trees have develope leaf domatia structures for mutualism with predatory mites.

  • A 7 year-old intact female black spotted and white hair Shih-tzu dog visited for screening of vital condition and was suspected multifocal alopecia on physical examination. On dermatologic examination, alopecia with patches on black spot area, generalized seborrhea sicca, and bacterial infection were detected. Additionally, melanin clumping in the hair shafts on the alopecic area was detected by microscopic examination. Based on the signalment and dermatologic examination, black hair follicular dysplasia was diagnosed. To our best knowledge, this the first case report of black hair follicular dysplasia in Shih-tzu.

  • Mazabraud syndrome is a rare benign disease that is accompanied by polyostotic fibrous dysplasia and intramuscular myxoma. Malignant transformation of fibrous dysplasia occurs in approximately 1% of cases. To date, only eight cases of malignant transformation, of fibrous dysplasia to osteosarcoma, in Mazabraud syndrome have been reported worldwide. The authors report the first case of osteosarcomatous transformation in a patient with Mazabraud syndrome in the Republic of Korea, focusing on imaging findings.

  • This study examined the bending performance of high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars experimentally with various parameters. For the experimental approach on the bending performance, the specimens were prepared with parameters, such as steel grades, diameters of reinforcing bars, and bending angles of reinforcing bars. Tensile strength tests on the reinforcing bars, the bending tests and re-bending tests, and the second tensile strength tests on the re-bended reinforcing bars were conducted. According to the test results on high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars, defects did not appear when the yield strength of the reinforcing bar was 500 MPa or less and the diameter was D13 or less, even when the first bending process was performed with a $135^{\circ}$ bending angle and a $2d_b$ inner radius. The bending performance decreased asthe strength and diameter of the reinforcing bars was increased. In addition, there was no significant difference between the general reinforcing bars and seismic purpose-reinforcing bars.

  • Osteofibrous dysplasia is a rare bone tumor arising in patient younger than 10 years. Because of the frequent local recurrences after intralesional curettage and even after wide extraperiosteal resection, it is difficult to treat. Recurred lesions often showed increased disease activities. We experienced a case of osteofibrous dysplasia arisen in tibia. We treated the recurrent lesion occurred after two times of curettages and bone grafts with wide extraperiosteal segmental resection and reconstruction with free vascularized fibular graft. Here we report the case with review of the related literatures.

  • Malignant degeneration of fibrous dysplasia is rare and involves transformation into osteosarcoma, fibrosarcoma and chondrosarcoma. The most frequent sites involved in malignant transformation were craniofacial bones, proximal femur, humerus, pelvis, tibia and scapula in a decreasing order of frequency. An 41-year-old man with a history of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia presented with increasing left arm pain. Plain radiograph showed expansile destructive lesion along the humeral shaft. As initial biopsy report was low grade chondrosarcoma, he underwent marginal resection. However, he developed local recurrence 7 month later and subsequent pathologic finding was chondroblastic osteosarcoma. We report one case of secondary chondroblastic osteosarcoma from polyostotic fibrous dysplasia initially misdiagnosed as low grade chondrosarcoma that caused fallacy in treatment strategy.

  • After the introduction of ultrasound enabling a detailed view of both neonatal hip instability and morphology, two different streams have developed: one arguing that neonatal hip instability is the major pathology warranting treatment, the other including acetabular dysplasia as an important feature. Graf's method including the acetabular dysplasia led to higher treatment and follow-up rate than that based upon neonatal hip instability only. Recent report suggested that improved examination techniques and a better understanding of the findings have enabled a more tailored approach, and no differences in treatment rates exist due to different ultrasound techniques. I'd like to emphasize that enough experiences and the understanding enabling standardized examination and high repeatbility is more important than the choice of different techniques. Here the mothods and meanings of different techniques of ultrasound and its usefulness in the diagnosis and treatment of DDH is discussed.

  • In this study, computation method of tensile load which develops in tie-bar of reinforced earth, connection strength between tie-bar and eco-block and shear strength of the interface between two eco-blocks were verified by experiments. According to the test results of connection strength test, peak tensile load of D13 deformed bar were close to allowable tensile load of it for situation of infill with soil. Connection strengths of D10 and D13 deformed bars were greater than the allowable tensile load of those respectively for situation of infill with concrete. According to the test results of shear strength of the interface between two eco-blocks, shear resistance parameters, ${\alpha}_u$ and ${\lambda}_u$ were evaluated as 1.7kN/m and 2$27.6^{\circ}$ respectively.

  • A case of dentinal dysplasia type I is presented. Dentin dysplasia type I is a rare dental anomaly that is characterized by disturbance in dentin formation. It appears to be normal clinically, but, radiographically, it is characterized by obliteration of all pulp chambers and short, blunted, and malformed roots. Histological analysis shows whorls of tubular dentin and atypical osteodentin. In this case, features of dentin dysplasia type I in mixed dentition is presented. The clinical, radiographic, and histopathological findings of this condition are described along with its management.
