The purpose of this study is to examine how the commonly known profile of public library users was described, by reviewing the literature published in the United States before the 1990s, when information environment of the public has been drastically changed. The profile of users as the socio-economically advantaged, active participants, and communication elites, has little changed since Berelson's study in the 1940s. Continuing research on users, however, are still needed to better understand their needs and behavior, facing the change since the 1990s.

This study proposes an expanded model of personalized search service based on community activities on a Korean Web portal. The model is composed of defining subject categories of users, providing personalized search results, and recommending additional subject categories and queries. Several experiments were performed to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model. It was found that users' activities on community services provide valuable data for identifying their Interests, and the personalized search service increases users' satisfaction.

Our limited understanding of real-life music information queries is an impediment to developing music information retrieval (MIR) systems that meet the needs of real users. This study aims to contribute to developing a theorized understanding of how people seek music information by an empirical investigation of real-life queries, in particular, focusing on the accuracy of user-provided information and users' uncertainty expressions. This study found that much of users' information is inaccurate; users made various syntactic and semantic errors in providing this information. Despite these inaccuracies and uncertainties, many queries were successful in eliciting correct answers. A theory from pragmatics is suggested as a partial explanation for the unexpected success of inaccurate queries.

The purposes of this study are to investigate the perception and use of e-books by librarians and children and to suggest important elements to improve e-book services at the children's libraries. User survey questionaries and interviews from fifty five librarians and thirty children were carried for the perceptions and the use of e-books at five children's libraries. Based upon the data analysis from two groups, three important elements for improving e-book services of the libraries were suggested as follows: providing enough e-book contents, facilities and spaces, developing e-book user education programs with proactive pubic relations, and providing professional continuing education programs regarding e-books to librarians.

The aim of the study is to identify the design principles for user interface required to increase the usability of research information systems and to develop the heuristics for the research information systems. For this purpose, a series of literature review was conducted to examine the user interface design principles for the research information systems, and the in-depth interview and participant observation were performed on the users of the systems and experts in the field of user interface to investigate the design principles and the interface factors for applying such principles in the systems. Based on the results, the heuristics of 86 items in 7 different dimensions were proposed.

This study was intended to confirm the perception of the users for the public libraries specialized service through the difference in library service quality according to the availability of specialized services by utilizing 'LibQUAL+' that is a service quality assessment tool. As a results, there is difference in the minimum and perceived levels between libraries that provide assessment result specialized services for service levels and those that did not. And there was no difference in the expected level. The degree of service showed generally higher user perception in the Adequacy Gap and Superiority Gap than libraries that do not offer specialized services. Therefore, the users of public libraries recognize that libraries that offer specialized services are better served than libraries that do not.

In this study, in order to understand the characteristics of the users' information needs for each public library unit, the user needs were analyzed based on the various attribute information of the books loaned to 11 public libraries in 8 districts in Seoul. As a result, the prominent book use patterns of the libraries were revealed, specifically related to the target user groups, purpose/motivation, interests/preferences, book genre, and subject. In addition, there was a preference for authors, and a difference in the role of the preferred authors in each library was also revealed. The results of this study will help to provide guidelines for the development of differentiated collections and service programs based on user needs.

해양사고는 해양 환경과 인적 요소의 상호작용에서 발생하는 심각한 문제 중 하나로, 이를 예방하고 관리하기 위한 정책이 필수적이다. 하지만, 이 중 해상교통 환경에 대해서는 지금까지 항만 및 입·출항로 등 제한된 해역에 한정하여 관리되어 온 관계로 전체 연근해 해역에 대한 관리는 상대적으로 미흡하였다. 따라서 증가하는 해역 이용 수요에 대비한 선박 및 선원 중심의 안전 정책을 교통환경 관리강화를 통한 공간 중심으로 전환할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 해역이용자 및 관련 전문가를 대상으로 교통환경 관리 항목 도출을 위한 설문조사를 시행하고 AHP 기법을 활용하여 이를 분석하였다.

In a situation where the recognition of archival services remains minimal, an evaluation of archival information services by users could provide a better understanding of users' practical needs and present helpful information for improved services. A service evaluation by users using questionnaires was conducted in university archives, which can similarly categorize their user groups and have frequent interactions with the users for the provision of services. Questionnaires suitable for the evaluation of university archives were developed based on the review of the evaluation tools in archival information services. From April to October 2015, 113 users' evaluation results were collected from 13 university archives. As a result of goodness of fit tests, the users' service evaluation items were categorized into four parts: Use Results, Provision of Information on Archives, Accessibility to Archives, and Interaction. For those four parts, evaluation by descriptive statistics, T-test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. Users evaluated Interaction parts highly while they were less satisfied with Provision of Information on Archives. T-test results showed that university archives with search engines and with electronic records management systems were evaluated higher than archives without such technology. In the regression analysis, the Interaction and Provision of Information on Archives parts were found to have an influence on the Use Results part.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the importance of curation services that analyze user information requests to provide tailored information within extensive information resources. This study aims to identify user information needs by analyzing search term logs from the Presidential Archives Portal to enhance the utilization value of presidential records, which possess high historical significance. In addition, by evaluating the portal's search performance, this study seeks to determine whether the Presidential Archives Portal is providing archival information services that meet users' information needs and to suggest areas for improvement through digital record curation services. To achieve these objectives, topic analysis and word network analysis were conducted based on search term logs spanning the past eight years. The search quality of the Presidential Archives Portal was evaluated from an accuracy perspective, focusing on areas with high user demand, and recommendations were drawn based on the results of the analysis. As a preliminary study for digital record curation of presidential records, this study is significant because it identifies specific user information needs and quantifies the search quality of archival portal sites to improve user satisfaction.
