생활영역별 농촌결혼이민여성 통합정책의 선호 정향성 및 효과성에 관한 연구 (Study on Preference Orientation and Effectiveness of an Integration Policy for the Rural married immigrant women according to life areas)

  • This study aimed at identifying the effectiveness and preference orientation of an social integration policy for rural married immigrant women according to eight life areas. For this purpose was surveyed non-multicultural residents and multicultural couples. By analysis, frist, the assimilation orientation as an model of integration policy for the women was preferred most highly at the life language area by every respondent. The multiculturalism orientation was preferred most highly at the private area such as dietary-life culture. Second, ANOVA analysis showed that the positive effectiveness on the language policy are evaluated most highly by the respondent having assimilation preference orientation. And the positive effectiveness on dietary-life culture policy are evaluated most highly by the respondent having multiculturalism orientation. Third, positive effectiveness level of the policy estimated by the resident was lower than it of multicultural couple significantly. In conclusion, based on results of this study, it can be seen as on that point preference orientation of integration policy for the women, the domain specificity is present in the attitude of the multicultural couple and resident. Therefore it suspect that integration policy for the women should be considered differently according to life sphere.

중국인 이민 초산모의 산후조리 경험 (The Postnatal Care Experiences among First Time Chinese Immigrant Mothers Living in Korea)

  • Purpose: This study was to explore the postnatal care experiences among first time Chinese immigrant mothers living in Korea. Methods: Data were collected by focus group interviews with 12 first time Chinese immigrant mothers utilizing 3 focus groups. After obtaining written informed consent from all participants, each session of the focus group was audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analyzed by content analysis to identify major themes. Results: Four major themes for postnatal care experiences were extracted from the data as follows. 1) Range over traditional, modern, Korean or Chinese postnatal care, 2) Struggle with newborn care, 3) Another struggle with breastfeeding, and 4) Difficulties in becoming a mother as an immigrant. Conclusion: Based on their postpartum care experiences, it is concluded that participants requested more professional practical and individualized education/training for successful breastfeeding and newborn care. Health care providers need to develop and implement integrated support and mentoring programs that include information and peer support system for the first time Chinese immigrant mothers living in Korea. This would decrease the difficulties of becoming a mother.

여성 결혼이민자의 가족관계가 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Family Relationship of Women Immigrants on Satisfaction with life)

  • This study was done to investigate the effects of family relationship on satisfaction with life in women immigrants. The participants were 346 women immigrants in S city, Chungnam province. The data were collected through self-reported questionnaires which were constructed to include such scales as satisfaction with life and family relationship. First, satisfaction with family relationship ranked in order of couple, parents-in-law, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Second, as the women immigrants were younger, and their wedding time was shorter, satisfaction with couple was higher. Third, when women immigrants were between 20 and 30 years old in age, and between 2006 and 2010 in wedding year, satisfaction with parents-in-law were higher. Fourth, when women immigrants were between 20 and 30 years old in age, and 2006 and 2010 in wedding year, satisfaction with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were higher. Fifth, satisfaction with life was higher for women immigrants with younger age, lower educational level, and shorter residence and wedding time. Sixth, curve term more accounted for relationship between satisfaction with parents-in-law and life. Seventh, significant predictors influencing satisfaction with life were satisfaction with couple, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

결혼이민여성에 대한 지역사회 구성원의 문화적 민감성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Community Members' Cultural Sensitivity about Immigrant Wives)

  • The present study examined the cultural sensitivity of community members to migrant wives in Korea. A total of 12 community members: 4 neighbors, 4 practitioners, and 4 public officials from both urban and rural area were interviewed about their prior experiences with migrant wives. The participants provided their personal feelings and thoughts on a variety of issues involving migrant wives, such as cultural integration, cultural knowledge, opportunity equality, cultural originality, language usage, openness, and the movement toward a more multicultural society. Interview results indicated that the participants had perceived others' prejudice toward migrant wives in Korean society; the results also indicated that they wanted to participate in cultural festivals and gain knowledge of other cultures. The majority of the participants endorsed a uni-directional perspective on cultural adaption, and they thought of migrant wives as community members. The participants' attitudes toward a multicultural society were both positive and negative, and they suggested that Korean society is moving toward a broader perspective. Implications of the study and directions for future research were discussed.

결혼이민여성의 학대와 관련요인연구 (Study on the Factors Relating and the Abuse of Immigrant Women)

  • The purposes of this study were to find the general trends of individuals, marital relation, migrated-cultural variables and abuse, and to analyze the effects of the individual, marital relation, and migrated-cultural variables on the abuse. The subjects were 174 immigrant women. The data was analyzed with frequency, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression by SPSS. The major findings were as follows; Physical abuse amongst immigrant women was significantly different according to residence and income factors, psychological abuse was dependent on residence and native country, sexual abuse was dependent on education level, and total abuse was dependent on residence and native country. The level of abuse (range 1-4) was 2.07, Psychological abuse was the highest with 2.23, physical abuse was next with 1.92 and sexual abuse was 1.78. All the abuse types were influenced by the husband's alcohol behavior, communication efficiency, marital conflict, and knowledge of Korean culture. In conclusion, it is important to protect immigrant women who have been abused. So understanding, reasonable coping, prevention programs and counseling of abuse victims were provided to immigrant women.

여성결혼이민자의 건강증진행위 예측모형 (A Predictive Model on Health Promotion Behavior in Women who Immigrate for Marriage)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a model which explains factors influencing health promotion behavior in women who immigrate to Korea for marriage, and to verify the appropriateness of the model. Methods: The participants were 300 women who immigrate to Korea for marriage and settled in located in Jeonbuk Province, Korea. The data were collected with self-report questionnaires from October 10, 2007 through November 10, 2007. A total of 271 data sets were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 and Amos 7.0 version. Results: Immigrant women's social support, self-efficacy, perceived health status, acculturation, and perceived barrier had an impact on their health promotion behavior. Social support was the most influential factor. All of these variables together explained 49% of the variance in health promotion behavior in immigrant women married to Korean men. Conclusion: In order to increase the health promotion behavior in immigrant women, intervention strategies to increase social support and self-efficacy for immigrant women should be developed.

방문간호를 받는 결혼이민여성의 건강관리와 건강상태 (Health Care and Health Status of Immigrant Women Married to Koreans in the Visiting Care Center)

  • Purpose: We analyzed the health care and health status of immigrant women married to Koreans in our community. Methods: We recruited 204 women who live in S Cityfrom 1st August to 30th September, 2008. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was done using a questionnaire through interviews and physical assessment by visiting nurses. Results: The average age of the subjects was 29.8 and most of them were housewives. Sixteen percent of them obese as measured by BMI. Moreover, most participants (86%) did not exercise at all. Over 13% complained of physical discomfort that was left untreated, and only 50% participated in cancer screening. Conclusions: Young, obese immigrant women require further health care monitoring. Caregivers also should ask about physical discomfort and cancer screenings. However, caregivers should do so in a culturally sensitive manner. In addition, the government should support cancer detection programs for immigrant women.

결혼이민 여성에 대한 간호사의 태도 (Nurses' Attitude toward Migrant Wives)

  • Purpose: The survey was performed to explore nurses' attitudes toward migrant wives in Korean society. Method: Four hundred thirty-eight respondents were recruited from 2 acute hospitals from 2 different geological areas. The attitude inventory to measure attitude toward migrant wives was utilized, which includes 6 factors such as prejudice, reliability, offensiveness, interests, acceptance, and influence. Result: The overall attitude was slightly positive (3.23) and reliability was the only non-positive scoring factor. Among the general characteristics education level showed a significant difference in 5 factors consistently compared to other characteristics. Conclusion: It can be concluded that Korean nurses tend to take a neutral to slightly positive attitude toward migrant wives. Therefore, any influence from nurses' attitudes related to migrant wives can be ignored. Obstacles or barriers which could hamper nursing care for migrant wives need to be identified and studies of strategies to overcome any existing barriers are called for.

여성 결혼이민자의 주관적 건강상태, 건강행위 실천, 결혼만족도 (Perceived Health Status, Health Behavior, and Marital Satisfaction in Married Immigrant Women)

  • Purpose: The study examined the correlation of perceived health status, health behaviors, and marital satisfaction in women who have immigrated to Korea through marriage. Method: Data were collected via questionnaires that investigated health status, health behaviors, Korean language ability, characteristics of couple, and marital satisfaction. Three hundred four subjects were selected for a 4-month period. The data of 300 subjects were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation, after four questionnaires were excluded due to incomplete data. Results: Perceived health status varied significantly according to nationality, existence of religion, and period of immigration. The scores for perceived health status among women who had lived in Korea for more than 5 years were lower than for women who had resided for 1-3 years. There was a significant positive correlation between health status and health behavior, and health status and Korean language ability, but a negative correlation between health status and age. Conclusion: A program for the improvement of health in immigrant women should include communication assistance as their mother language and should provide periodic health screening.

여성 결혼이민자 문화교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 시론적 연구 (A Study on Developing Cultural Education Program for Female Marriage Immigrants in Korea)

  • This study was performed to develop the basic framework of multicultural art education programs for female foreign immigrants married to Korean males. First, these programs aim to lessen their cultural variance in acculturizing in Korea, and thereafter enhance their emotional stability and improve their creative ability to integrate cultural diversity into family life. The primary objective of this study was to offer a suitable education program and evaluation criteria for the program; the research has been done through person-to person interviews with 53 subjects using a series of questionnaires composed of 8 five-point Likert-Scaled items. As for the process of the interview, the subjects were asked about their satisfaction with each program item twice in order to comparetheir impressions before and after program participation. The satisfaction scores were analyzed using frequency distribution. In addition, the program effects were also evaluated by coordinators and developers from their subjective comments through periodical evaluation meetings. From the results, it is observed that art education programs are beneficial for improving female immigrants' emotionaland cultural integration. In addition, experts determined that the programs were helpful for improving their human relationship and acculturization in Korea. Finally, it is concluded that multicultural education programs are a primary fundamental infra-structural way of integrating diverse cultures and improving communication exchanges, and therefore, improve family stability among the multicultural families in Korea.
