  • This study examines the children's wear purchasing behavior of younger generation women (the missy group) and in the new-silver generation (retired). The data collected in the study were examined with a view to establish effective marketing strategies within the children's wear market, a market where the age and characteristics of the actual purchasers of the products have become more diverse. A descriptive survey method using a self-administered questionnaire was employed. The sample consisted of 398 females between the ages of 28 and 64 residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi-do area. Data collected were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and Cronbach's alpha coefficients. Respondents were classified into 4 groups by their clothes shopping orientation: conformable/brand conscious purchasing type, planned purchasing/enjoy shopping type, store/brand loyal impulse-oriented type, and dependent/low shopping interest type. There were differences between the missy and the new- silver generations under consideration. It is clear from the study that, even though some individuals of the missy group and of new-silver group belonged to the same shopping orientation type, individuals still showed differences with regard to children's wear purchasing behavior.

  • This study was done to provide the basic data for improving the sizing system for infants and children's clothing. The 97 brands were surveyed through market research and on-line searching. Size and body measurements were analyzed according to the content of nominal size, type of market, national and foreign brands, and meaning of reference size. The results are as follows: 1. The meaning of nominal sizes was categorized as five cases: the size based on body measurements, the size based on age, the meaningless size, letter cord and combination of 2 out of 4 cases above. The nominal size based on height was most observed, and the meaningless nominal size was second. The meaningless nominal size can cause confusion when consumer buys clothing. 2. The department stores mainly used the nominal size based on body measurements, but the Internet shopping malls largely used the meaningless nominal size. 3. Both national brands and foreign brands mainly used the nominal size based on height. But national brands largely used the different nominal sizes. 4. 41 brands indicated body measurements as reference size and 26 brands indicated product measurements as reference size. Therefore consumers tended to confuse the body measurements with the product measurement.

A total of 34 brands with the highest recent sales rates were selected. Among these, 17 were large-sized enterprise brands found in department stores, and the other 17 were in-house production enterprise brands. All colors used in the logos of the selected brands were extracted from the brand logo images. In addition, the study classified the pursued images of the selected brands using emotional adjectives in order to assess variations in different color attributes of the logos according to the brand type and pursued image. The study found that in-house production enterprise brands used lighter and more varied colors compared to department store brands. For both brand types, reddish-to-yellowish hues were most commonly used. Brands projecting a 'cute' and 'gorgeous' image exhibited a greater array of colors in their logos, while brands with a 'neat', 'modern', and 'luxurious' image used less saturated colors. In terms of logo type, symbol logos used the most colors with a moderate level of lightness, while typographic logos used the fewest colors with a low level of lightness.

The main method of purchase was online shopping. The design, price, size and fit were identified as important ballet dancewear attributes for girls. The most preferred style of ballet dancewear were 'short sleeve skirted leotard' and 'camisole skirted leotard' which look like dress. The respondents reported slight satisfaction with size and fit, price, convenience in action, sewing and durability. The most preferred sizing system was code by height but any ballet dancewear makers don't use code by height. Therefore it is difficult for consumers to select size. • Despite a continuous decline in birth rate, children's clothing market is growing, driven by consumption trends of MZ generation parents who are willing to invest generously in their only child. Therefore, this study aimed to: 1) analyze changes in children's clothing market; 2) ascertain preferences and consumption patterns of MZ generation parents towards children's textile designs through surveys; and 3) develop textile designs targeting MZ generation parents based on these research findings. This study involved processes of literature review, market research, and design development. Survey results indicated that 'patterns and prints' were the most critical factor when purchasing children's clothing. The design process reflected survey and literature review findings, starting from idea conception to motif setting, pattern development, colorway, and simulation checks for final application suitability. Designs were executed using CAD programs centered around the main theme 'Enchanted Tea Party' and five sub-themes. This research was significant as it conducted surveys known to be challenging for corporations, thereby capturing the essence of MZ generation parents' preferences through the design process. This will provide essential information for establishing children's clothing design and marketing strategies, contributing to sustained growth of the market and enhancing the competitiveness of children's clothing brands.
