  • High school students' understanding hierarchy of astronomical concepts and an individual student's knowledge state are analyzed by using the knowledge space theory that allows one to infer an individual's entire knowledge on a subject based on fragmentary information coming from that student's answers. The hierarchy of astronomical space concepts is: spatial position$\ll$spatial reasoning$\ll$spatial variation. In addition, an analysis of assessment materials using the knowledge space theory shows not only the relationship of assessment questions but also the knowledge state of individual students, which the current evaluation method is not able to reveal. Therefore, the assessment analysis of this study using the knowledge space theory becomes critically instrumental in providing information of an instructional differentiation amenable to individual learners for deciding their level of understanding and selecting suitable curriculum.

  • The human mind is a self-evolving system that develops along a multidimensional hierarchical pathway in response to traumatic stimulus. In absence of trauma, a mind integrated in conflict-free state is called monistic. When the monistic mind responses to a traumatic stimulus, a response polarity forms toward stimulus polarity within the mind, turning it into a bipartite structure. Dialectical interaction between the two opposites, originating from their incompatibility, creates a new third polarity in the upper dimension. Thereby, the mind turns into a trinity structure. When the interaction among the three polarities becomes optimized, the plasticity of the mind gets maximized into the "far-from-equilibrium state," and the function of three polarities is synchronized. Through this recalibration, the mind returns back to its monistic structure. If the mind with the recurred monistic structure responds to another traumatic stimulus, this cycle of hierarchical transformation repeats itself in this cyclical and fractal growth process through synchronization of basic trinity system. Applying this concept to the process of post-traumatic growth (PTG), this paper explores how the mind transforms traumatic experiences into PTG and proposes a 'PTG Clock' that shows a fundamental sequence in the development of the human mind. The PTG Clock consists of seven hierarchical phases, and each of the first six phases has two opposite sub-phases: shocked/numbed, feared/intrusive, paranoid/avoidant, obsessional/explosive, dependent/depressive, and meaningless/searching for meaning. The seventh, the synchronization phase, completes one cycle of the mind's transformation, realizing a grand trinity system, where the mind synchronizes its biological, social, and existential dimensions. At that point, the mind becomes more susceptible to not only the stimulus of its own traumatic experience but also the pain of others. Thereby, the PTG Clock sets out on a journey to another cycle of transformation in higher dimensions. The validity of this transformational process for the PTG Clock will be examined by comparing it to Horowitz's theory of stress response syndrome.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of teachers'personal background (academic, education career) and institutional characteristic factors(founded facility type, class size, and curriculum organization type) on the quality of the classroom in early childhood education and care(ECEC) fields. This study is to explore the conditions for improving the quality of ECEC, looking back on a traditional paradigm focused on teacher education and qualifications. The hierarchical regression analysis was conducted through a survey as a research method. The results indicated that the effects of institutional characteristics were more influential than teachers' education on classroom quality. Public kindergartens and child care centers were reported to have higher effects than the private ones on classroom quality. Based on these results, policy implications and future research plans were suggested in perspective of improving the publicness of ECEC services.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the concepts and inquiry activities of textbooks in Korea and Singapore textbooks focused on the field of geology, and to provide implications for the future development of Korean curriculum and textbooks. For the study, it was selected as the 2015 revised science textbook in Korea and 'My pals are here' that is the most used textbook in Singapore. The results of this study are as follows: First, Korea had a lower level of concept than Singapore. Second, we could confirm that Korea is composed of 'inquiry' centered compared to Singapore. Third, Korea deal with only one concept in one grade, however Singapore is structured so that concepts are divided hierarchically into several grades. Fourth, Singapore has been instructing students to learn how the learned concept interact with the Earth, which is different from Korea. These results may give implications for the curriculum composition and textbook development in Korea.

  • In recent years, it is very difficult to construct and expand new infrastructures in a city center because of long-term low growth and lack of space due to urban overcrowding. So, there is a need to study a variety of Retrofitting techniques and urban applications that can lead to sustainable development while efficiently utilizing existing facilities. 'Retrofit' means a sustainable urban retrofitting as a directed alteration of the structures, formations and systems of existing facilities to improve energy, water and waste efficiencies. In this study, we applied a hierarchical network design technique that can reflect the structural hierarchy of a city to study how to retrofit public transportation routes in Seoul. The hierarchical network design means dividing the hierarchy according to the functions of hubs and connecting different hierarchies to form a hierarchical network. As a result of comparing the application results of various retrofitting scenarios of public transport, the differences of daily PKT and PHT by about 2.6~3.2% less than before the improvement address that the convenience of passengers is increased. Therefore, it is expected that if the route planning is established according to the proposed method, it will increase the number of passengers and the operational efficiency by the improved convenience of public transit passengers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of informational diversity-sensitive orientation on employee attitudes, focusing on the moderating effects of communication. Recently, diversity within organizations has intensified and the importance of diversity management within organizations is increasing. Diversity studies have focused on the variance of objective diversity characteristics, and have provided mixed results. In order to overcome limitations in the research, this study focuses on members' perception of diversity. To this end, the variable of informational diversity-sensitive orientation(IDSO) was used. Sample data is derived from 301 surveys of employees in firms located in South Korea. Results show that informational diversity-sensitive orientation(IDSO) had a positive effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Regarding the moderating effect of communication, a positive moderating effect was exhibited only in co-worker communication, and differential influence derived from communication type. Based on the analysis results, we discuss research implications and directions for future research.
