  • Recently, cloud computing has been affecting academic information system buildup. When university academic affairs information system is designed with cloud computing, it is very important to estimate the adequate processing capacity for the cloud computer taking into account a waste of resources and the quality of service. Cloud computer's processing capacity to meet the quality of service expected by users should be predicted based on users' transaction patterns and resource requirements characteristics. In this paper, we analyze actual traffic patterns occurring in university academic affairs business and propose a method to calculate the optimal processing capacity for cloud computer to satisfy the given average response time. To justify our research, we apply the research results to a real university academic affairs business case and obtain the optimal processing capacity for the integrated academic affairs business.

  • Because of boost of communications devices furnishing diverse services and rapid expansion of mobile business, good use and management of the existing network system become very important. Also, offering service corresponding with user communication requirement grades which vary widely in each person, is vital for communication service provider. In this paper, SGOSST, a mechanism of efficient network construction with minimum cost for network QoS is proposed. In experiments, though spending 252.97% more execution times, our SGOSST QoS network consumed 5.11% less connecting costs than the network constructed by weighted minimum spanning tree method. Therefore our mechanism can work well for efficient operation and service providing in the network formed with users and communication devices of various service requirement grade as smart/mobile equipment.

  • In this paper, we designed a dynamic TDMA scheme for smooth tactical data distribution in TDMA tactical datalinks. Since the existing tactical datalinks use fixed time radio resources, it is impossible to change the resource status according to network conditions during operation. To overcome these limitations, we designed, implemented, and simulated the DTDMA processing and related messages such as initial timeslot allocation, intermediate time slot allocation, time slot return, and timeslot retrieval. As a result, it was shown that the method of effectively allocating and using timeslot resources according to the situation is applicable. Therefore, we will continue research to manage DTDMA communication on tactical data link in the future.

  • This paper presents a methodology for evaluating suitability of a manned-unmanned aerial vehicle team for a complicated mission. The study identified vehicle performance, equipment performance and level of autonomy as the key factors that affect the mission effectiveness. A manned and an unmanned aircraft were compared, and their performance was quantized in these respects. SEAD was chosen as a representative manned-unmanned team mission. The SEAD mission was broken down to a sequence of tasks. Mission experts evaluated the importance of each mark item for the mission legs. Combining the results showed proper type of aircraft for each leg depending on the complexity, safety, and importance of the task. Finally, the whole mission plan was laid out as a time-based sequence which alleviate pilot workload significantly.

  • The provision of spatial data is a key infrastructural requirement for the promotion of economic growth, environmental quality, social progress, etc. 4S technology integrates 4 kinds of systems that process spatial data: GIS (Geographic Information System), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), ITS (Intelligent Transport System), and SIIS (Spatial Imagery Information System). Spatial data processing field is expected to get synergy effect and overcomes development limit of individual unit technology via 4S technology. This paper discusses both the development of 4S-kernel technology and the construction of 4S-based framework, In the development of 4S kernel technology, we will concentrate on the following issues: the development of 4S base components for reciprocity integration among GIS, SIIS, GNSS and ITS technologies, the development of 4S-Mobile S/W and H/W, 4S-Van components, and national LBS technologies. And in the construction of 4S-based framework, we will especially concentrate on the ISP for overall 4S technologies, the international cooperative research center, and the guide model deduction for supervision and certification of 4S projects. Finally, we examine about how the construction of 4S-baed framework affects 4S industry.

  • The human voice is the most natural means of communication. The need for speech recognition technology is increasing gradually to increase the ease of human and machine interface. The function of the avionics equipment is getting various and complicated in consequence of the growth of digital technology development, so that the load of pilots in the fighter aircraft must become increased since they don't concentrate only the attack function, but also operate the complicated avionics equipments. Accordingly, if speech recognition technology is applied to the aircraft cockpit as regards the operating the avionics equipments, pilots can spend their time and effort on the mission of fighter aircraft. In this paper, the cockpit voice command system applicable to the fighter aircraft has been developed and the function and the performance of the system verified.

  • In this paper, we propose the PON-based access network based on conventional TDM-PON architecture, which utilizes WDM wavelength channel and bandwidth dynamically. It is also described a dynamic MAC protocol in order to increase the number of subscribers and efficiency of resource utilization. Of particular importance in the proposed approach for MAC protocol is that the wavelength channel and time slot for up/downlink is dynamically allocated according to the required QoS level and the amount of data in data transmission, through the dedicated control channel between OLT and ONU. We evaluate the performance of average packet end-to-end delay in a statistical analysis and numerical analysis. In addition, through simulations with various traffic models, we verified the superior performance of the proposed approach by comparing with the results of other E-PONs.

  • Recently, as weapon systems have been more diverse and complicated, the factors of risk increase in development. Consequently, demanding reduction of acquired costs and period increase. Under the acquisition environment, more efficiently to develop weapon system, the necessity of application of defense M&S from requirement phase is on the rise. As the importance of M&S is stressed under distributed environment, so the standard of M&S(HLA, SEDRIS, etc.) and the system engineering process, namely FEDEP(Federation Development & Execution Process) have been developed. In this paper using the 5 phase expression, we constructed underwater engagement simulation(UNES) that prototype to develop naval weapon system test bed which take up integrated architecture in HLA. we developed simulators according to FEDEP for expandability and described process applying FEDEP fur UNES development.

  • Distributed applications based on standards such as CORBA, DCOM, and EJB have been widely used in distributed environments. Recently, another XML-based standard, SOAP, has been recommended for web applications. However, these standards have a shortcoming in inter-operation because they can be run on their own environments. In this paper, we design and implement a SOAP bridge for inter-operation of SOAP with other distributed object standards. Its function is to map formats between SOAP and CORBA/DCOM at run time. Through performance experiments, we show that the computing overhead is small compared to the whole transaction execution time. Therefore, distributed objects of other platforms can be reused instead of developing new objects based on SOAP. Also, using the SOAP bridge, we design and implement an XML-based bidding system on the web. Because it is based on the web standards, it has advantages such as extendibility and interoperability compared to previous proprietary electronic commerce systems.

  • In the management of a wastewater treatment plant which is a combination system of physical, chemical, and biological processes, computer simulator is an indispensable part for analysis of the operation status and evaluation of the treatment performance due to its fast computing speed. As an application software carrying out the data input-output operations and the mathematical calculations of the models, simulator is to be a powerful tool for estimating the treatment reaction and calculating mass balance of substrates, microorganisms, and chemicals within the treatment system in a given condition. Qualitative and quantitative prediction of treatment performance provides the plant manager with validity of decision-making through implementing modeling and simulation as a role of knowledge-based expert system in charge of automation and control. This paper shows the proceeding of design and development of the "WEC-Sim" software which is owned the various functions of data acquisition, monitoring, simulation, and control.
