  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between depression due to the COVID-19 pandemic and park use behaviors using on line posts. During the period of the pandemic prevention activities, text data containing both 'park' and 'depression' were collected from blogs and cafes in the search engine of Naver and Daum, then analyzed using Text Mining and Social Network techniques. As a result, the main usage behaviors of park users who mentioned depression were 'look', 'stroll(walk)' and 'eat'. Other types of behaviors were connected centering around 'look', one of the communication behaviors. Also, from CONCOR analysis, as the cluster referred from communication behavior and dynamic behavior was formed as a single behavior type, it was considered park users with depression perceived the park as the space for communication and physical activities. As the spread of COVID-19 caused the restriction of communication activities, the users might consider parks as one of the solutions. In addition, it was considered that passive usage behaviors have prevailed rather than active ones due to the depression. Resulting outcomes would be useful to plan helpful urban park for citizens. It is necessary to further analyze the park use behavior of users in relation to the period of before/after the COVID-19 pandemic and the existence/nonexistence of depression.

  • The purpose of the study were to analyze the patterns of adolescent suicide attempts, and to explore the effects of personal psychology (subjective depression, subjective stress), health status (BMI, subjective health perception), and subjective academic performance on the types of youth suicide attempts. For this research, data of 'The 15th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey' were analyzed employing a hierarchical logistic regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, out of 1,731 youth suicide attempts 156 (9%) were impulsive and 1,575 (91%) were planned. Girls(67.3%) attempted suicide more than boys (32.5%), and middle school students (62%) attempted suicide more than high school students (38%). Second, the variables that significantly affect suicide attempt types were subjective depression, subjective stress, and subjective health perception, after controlling for gender, grade level, school type, and SES. The rate of planned suicide attempts was higher among those who experienced depression than among those who did not. In the case of subjective stress, adolescents who felt stressed were likely to commit planned suicide attempts. Those who attempted impulsive suicide showed 1.32 times higher subjective health perception scores than those who attempted planned suicide, indicating adolescents who perceived they were not healthy were more likely to attempt planned suicide. BMI and subjective academic performance did not have a significant effect on the types of youth suicide attempts. These findings suggested the necessity of systematic intervention in Home Economics classes or extra-curricular programs, to prevent potential youth suicide attempts.

  • The This is a study on the level of depression and parental efficacy of the mothers who have children with disabilities. Thus, it compared the level of depression of the mothers of children with intellectual disabilities and the mothers of children with cerebral palsy. Both groups displayed mild depressive state; however, there was not a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Although there was not a significant difference between the two groups for parent efficacy, the factors of the number of family members and whether to participate in self-help meetings displayed a significant difference in the relationship of parent efficacy in accordance with the demographic characteristics. Of the mothers of children with intellectual disabilities, those mothers who were participating in the self-help meetings were found to have a higher parent efficacy than the mothers who were not participating in the self-help meetings. However, of the mothers of children with cerebral palsy, those mothers who were not participating in the self-help meetings were found to have a higher parent efficacy. As for the correlation between level of depression and parent efficacy, it was found that the higher the parent efficacy was, the lower the level of depression was. The interest was found to be higher with higher parent efficacy when sub-dividing and comparing frustration and interest that were the sub-domains of parent efficacy.
