  • A review of the related literature indicates that consumers' risk perceptions are largely affected by product involvement. This study investigates the impact of product involvement on required trust level and the online merchant choice. We developed a conceptual model that depicts the nomological relationships among product involvement, required trust level, and the online merchant choice, and formulated three hypotheses based on the conceptual model. An empirical study designed to accomplish the research objectives has been conducted using a questionnaire survey with 230 students in a university in Korea. The findings indicated that high-involvement products have higher trust level as required by consumers than low-involvement products, that consumers buying high-involvement products prefer digital storefronts, and that consumers buying low-involvement products prefer B2C e-marketplaces. The paper offers implications for academics as well as practitioners, based on the research results.

  • This study aims to empirically investigate how users' online engagement behaviors predict their uses of paid contents. To this end, the data from the 2016 Korean Media Panel Survey, which has been conducted annually by the Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI), were analyzed. Major findings(N=8.313) were as follows. First, the active type of online engagement(e.g., posting, commenting), which contributes to direct creation of online contents, was the most powerful predictor to explain the DV. On the other hand, relatively passive actions of user engagement(e.g., sharing, endorsing, voting) turned out to have no significant effects on the uses of paid contents, just as personality traits and online privacy concerns did. Based on these results, it is recommended that online contents or platform service providers should try to establish clearly-targeted marketing strategies, after thoroughly collecting and analyzing the data of users' various online behaviors.

There is a difference in the factors of re-viewing. Second, among the flow factors of online taekwondo demonstration performances, the factors of attention, pleasure, and time distortion were found to have had a positive impact on involvement. Third, the flow factor of online taekwondo demonstration shows a positive effect on the intention of re-watching. Fourth, the level of participation in online taekwondo demonstrations has a positive effect on the intention of re-watching. The results of this study suggest changes in attitudes and behavior, such as increased involvement of female visitors and intention of re-viewing, and it is believed that online performances will help establish a new non-face-to-face cultural performance system.

  • This study examined the effect of product presentation on consumers' affective/cognitive states and purchase intention. The design of the study was a one factor(product presentation: garment presented flat vs. garment presented on models without faces vs. garment presented on models with faces) between-subject design with a moderator (involvement: high vs. low). A sample of 429 female college students participated in this online experiment. The results show the effectiveness of using a realistic human model on apparel websites. Also, consumers who are highly involved with clothing generally exhibit more positive responses than those who are less involved. Overall, these findings provide empirical support for the Stimulus-Organism-Response model and the Elaboration Likelihood Model, and contribute useful knowledge regarding website design for online apparel retailers.
