  • This study aims to explore patterns and characteristics of coordination between evidence and theories which were found in pre-service elementary teachers' writing for their science inquiry. Five science inquiry activities and a total of 115 writings of the participant teacher at the elementary teacher preparation university in Korea were collected and analyzed for this study. Based on the writing analyses there were found four types of coordination between the evidence and theory. We proposed four types as: Type 1-Consistency of evidence and theory; Type 2-Consistence of evidence and theory including more extension or elaboration of theory; Type 3-Inconsistence of evidence and theory Type 4-Inconsistence of evidence and theory followed by coordination of them. Firstly the findings indicated that the most to least frequent types were Type 1, Type 3, Type 2, and Type 4. The most frequent type was Type 1. It is interpreted that theory in the inquiry questions were frequently figured out by participants and they selected supporting evidence out of data found. There were rarely found relations between activity topics and frequencies of coordination types except in activity 1. The findings in this study will connect to the point of how students collaborate their previously owned knowledge with experiment planning, data analysis and interpretation and making of their own scientific claims.

  • Lately, as the importance of software and the software education has been emphasized, the studies on ways of teaching programming to elementary students have been actively progressed. However, most of undergraduates as prospective elementary teachers who will be in charge of teaching programming at the elementary schools have a lack of interest in programming education as well as of the understanding of basic programming principles. Therefore, this study investigated how programming education using hands-on robot and scratch affected learning motivation and academic achievement of preliminary teachers. The comparison of results of two programming educations shows that the programming education using hands-on robot revealed statistically significant difference in learning motivation and academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this research is to explore the awareness and demand of the field of childhood creativity education using media to promote childhood creativity. First of all, we conducted a focus group interview on the actual situation, awareness, and needs of media - based creativity education in early childhood education with 6 ewperts includes 2 professors 1 director, 1 assistant director, 1 teacher. As a result of FGI, first, the actual condition of childhood creativity education using media utilizes electronic bulletin board, animation fairy tale or children's song. Second, the awareness about childhood creativity education using media is recognizing that childhood can't cur off media with thir lives, so education institution utilizes the media naturally. Lastly, the demand about childhood creativity education using media asks the plan which can use childhood creativity education using media through teacher education or training educating for pre-service teachers desirably.. So, The research suggests the need of the childhood creativity education program using media later on.

  • This study explores the perception of Engineering Design of teachers who have long experience in the Integrated STEAM education. The teachers participating in this study were 12 elementary and secondary teachers with more than five years of experience in the Integrated STEAM Education. The study conducted semi-structured interviews. Interview questions focused on experiences of Integrated STEAM Education and recognition of Engineering Design, whether or not to reflect the curriculum of Engineering Design, and actual cases of Integrated STEAM Education with Engineering Design. As a result of this study, the teachers who participated in this study recognized that 'identification and coexistence of concepts for science, technology, and engineering' about Engineering Design, 'Creative design is possible when creativity is added to Engineering Design', 'Engineering Design is to analyze the economic feasibility and utility of the output created through the creative design process', 'Engineering Design is only for students who choose a career in science and engineering'. Based on this research, We need to establish and present correct concepts for science, technology, and engineering, and make an effort to include Engineering Design for solving scientific problems in the curriculum. In addition, we will have to develop and spread the Integrated STEAM Education program including Engineering Design and apply it in the field. Through this, we will have to find concrete action plans to improve the perception of science and engineering Integrated STEAM programs and Engineering Design among novice teachers and preservice teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers' perceptions and their difficulties of mathematics instruction. Pre-service teachers have positive perceptions about teaching students and teaching profession through teaching practicum. In addition, they have perceived that teaching practicum can enhance teaching methods for their students. Especially, they suggested that cooperating teachers' instruction and mathematics teachers and their colleagues' classroom observation are important factors to improve their teaching methods. In other hands, they have difficulties in application of questions encouraging mathematical thinking, attention concentration considering students' interest and planning and performing for mathematics instruction class according to levels of students' study abilities. Based upon this study's findings, teacher education institutes should make efforts to alleviate difficulties in mathematics instruction through effective teaching practicum such as regular reflection activities for their classes, programs development associated with schools, pre-training and education programs for guidance teachers.

  • This study intends to explore the characteristics of prospective teachers with a qualitative study based on the experience of students. To that end, the classes of prospective teachers and experienced teachers were compared through the students with focus on PE class. Practicum is the first teaching experience of prospective teachers and there are many related studies. However, there are few studies contributing to the reflective introspection of prospective teachers based on the experience of students. Thus, this study intends to promote their reflective introspection on their practicum, the first teaching experience. It was revealed that the majority of students find the prospective teachers' class less helpful than the class of experienced teachers. The detailed findings are as follows. First, the students find that prospective teachers only focus on the textbook and materials they have prepared. Second, most students find that prospective teachers do not consider the level of students as they focus on the textbook only. Third, most students find the class of prospective students uninteresting. Fourth, most students find that prospective teachers are unable to help students acquire various functions easily. The findings show that the majority of students find the prospective teachers' classes are inadequate. It implies that prospective teachers do not gain effective teaching skills at their universities (college of education). Prospective teachers should identify their areas of improvement based on their student experience.

  • In this paper we study in-service teachers' and pre-service teachers' recognition the domain in the problem concerning the continuity of a function. By a questionnaire survey we find out that most of in-service teachers and pre-service teachers are understanding the continuity of a function as explained in high school mathematics textbook, in which the continuity was defined by and focused on comparing the limit with the value of the function. We also notice that this kind of definition for the continuity of a function makes them trouble to figure out whether a function is continuous at an isolated point, and to determine that a given function is continuous on a region by not considering its domain explicitly. Based on these results we made several suggestions to improve for in-service teachers and pre-service teachers to understand the continuity of a function more exactly, including an introduction of a more formal words usage such as 'continuous on a region' in high school classroom.
