  • Due to COVID-19, paid virtual live-stream concerts have emerged as an alternative format and a new revenue model for in-person live concerts. Despite the increasing scholarly and practical interest in how participants experience paid virtual live-stream concerts, few studies examined participants' consumption and participation experiences. Thus, this study aims to provide insights into consumers' virtual live-stream concert experience by employing social representations theory (SRT). We explore the features of paid virtual live-stream concerts based on the C-P-N-D (Content-Platform-Network-Device) framework and the consumers' cognitive and affective perception. To this end, an SRT-based core-periphery analysis was conducted based on 239 responses to the open-ended survey questions. The results show that network-and device-level features of virtual live concerts and participants' overall perception are presented as core elements of paid virtual live-stream concerts, whereas content- and platform-level features are peripheral elements. This finding provides an in-depth understanding of the emergence of paid virtual live-stream concerts as an alternative concert format, thereby providing an invaluable understanding of a virtual live concert experience and theoretical and practical insights.

  • In the pursuit of sustainable and environmentally-friendly agricultural practices, we conducted an extensive study on the rhizosphere bacteria inhabiting soils that have been devoid of chemical fertilizers for an extended period exceeding 40 years. Through this investigation, we isolated a total of 80 species of plant growth-promoting rhizosphere bacteria and assessed their potential to enhance plant growth. Among these isolates, Burkholderia cepacia CD2 displayed remarkable plant growth-promoting activity, making it an optimal candidate for further analysis. Burkholderia cepacia CD2 exhibited a range of beneficial characteristics conducive to plant growth, including phosphate solubilization, siderophore production, denitrification, nitrate utilization, and urease activity. These attributes are well-known to positively influence the growth and development of plants. To validate the taxonomic classification of the strain, 16S rRNA gene sequencing confirmed its placement within the Burkholderia genus, providing further insights into its phylogenetic relationship. To delve deeper into the potential mechanisms underlying its plant growth-promoting properties, we sought to confirm the presence of specific genes associated with plant growth promotion in CD2. To achieve this, whole genome sequencing (WGS) was performed by Plasmidsaurus Inc. (USA) utilizing Oxford Nanopore technology (Abingdon, UK). The WGS analysis of the genome of CD2 revealed the existence of a subsystem function, which is thought to be a pivotal factor contributing to improved plant growth. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Burkholderia cepacia CD2 has the potential to serve as a microbial fertilizer, offering a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers.

  • This study analyzed lineaments and fault-related landforms in Chungcheongnam-do, central Korean Peninsula, based on historical and instrumental records, given its susceptibility to future earthquakes. We extracted 151 lineaments associated with fault-related landforms. In regions with the Dangjin and Yesan faults, lineaments with strikes matching these faults were densely distributed. Conversely, in the Hongseong Fault area, the number of lineaments was smaller, and those with strikes similar to the fault were less discernible. This is likely due to the extensive distribution of alluvium and surface deformation from long-term weathering, erosion, and cultivation, which obscures geomorphic evidence of faults. At five key fault points, we identified fault-related landforms, such as fault saddles, knickpoints in Quaternary alluvium, and linear valleys, along the lineament, which may indicate an actual fault. However, the displacements of the Quaternary layer within the lineaments appear to be influenced more by external factors, such as artificial disturbances (e.g., cultivation) or stream erosion, than by direct fault movement. The differences between the fault-related landforms in this study area and those in the southeastern Korean Peninsula suggest a specific relationship between fault types and their associated landforms.

  • The freeze-thaw deterioration and chloride attack, which are the typical degradation factors for durability of marine concrete, are significantly affected by pore structures in terms of penetration and diffusion. These pore structures of concrete are closely related to the types and amount of AE agent, used to guarantee the resistance of freeze-thaw deterioration, and the elapsed time before concrete pouring. This paper evaluates the durability of concrete based on the results of tests on cylinder specimens and core specimens from mock-up members with different air content of 4~6% and 8~10%, respectively. According to the test results, the air content of hardened concrete is 2.5~5.2% at 7 days and 2.4~5.1% at 28 days. These air contents are about half of the initial values just after the concrete mixing. Judging from the amount of scale after the freeze-thaw test completed, air content of 8~10% is slightly more beneficial against the deterioration of concrete than air content of 4~6%. Meanwhile, the core specimens from mock-up members exhibit somewhat unfavorable freeze-thaw deterioration and chloride migration characteristic compared with the cylinder specimens tested in the laboratory under the same mixing condition, as to show 106% in freeze-thaw test and 160% in chloride diffusion coefficient test, respectively.

  • Recently, the consecutive shield tunnel boring machine (TBM) has gained attention for its potential to enhance TBM penetration rates. However, its development requires a thorough risk assessment due to the unconventional nature of its equipment and hydraulic systems, coupled with the absence of design or construction precedents. This study investigated the causal relationships between four accidents and eight relevant sources associated with the consecutive shield TBM. Subsequently, risk levels were determined based on expert surveys and a risk matrix technique. The findings highlighted significant impacts associated with collapses or surface settlements and the likelihood of causal combinations leading to misalignment. Specifically, this study emphasized the importance of proactive mitigation measures to address collapses or surface settlements caused by inadequate continuous tail void backfill or damaged thrust jacks. Furthermore, it is recommended to develop advanced non-destructive testing technology capable of comprehensive range detection across helical segments, to design a sequential thrust jack propulsion system, and to determine an optimal pedestal angle.

  • Oahu Island is the third largest island of the Hawaiian chain which located in the northern hemisphere close to the center of the Pacific Ocean and is affected by storms and tsunamis in the northern and southern hemispheres. High-wave and high-energy waves are concentrated in the winter and summer, and the Oahu Coast is always in an active erosion environment. These natural effects are likely to become more severe with global warming and sea level rise. In addition, as the anthropogenic factors, there was indiscreet flood of development on the coast until the 1972 coastal management law was enacted. However, the present coastal erosion phenomenon was not serious than thought. The cause can be found in the improvement of the coastal management of the provincial government. The Hawaiian government is no longer applying this method, which was built prior to the enactment of the Coastal Control Act, due to increased erosion and side effects at other sites. So, in Hawaii, it is mainly applied to soft revetment methods such as supplying sand or making artificial sand dunes as an erosion prevention method. In Korea, there are some places where the soft revetment method is applied partially, but it is mainly composed of hard revetment structure.

  • In defense and military facility projects, adjustments to contract amounts due to design changes directly or indirectly affect factors such as increased construction costs and extended construction periods. Moreover, they can lead to differences of opinion and conflicts between the military and contracting parties. This case study analyzed the integrated management of defense and military facility projects by the Gyeonggi Southern Facilities Division, which oversees projects in Seoul and the southern Gyeonggi Province region for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. Out of 388 completed projects, 103 cases with design changes were selected for analysis, aiming to ensure the reliability of data regarding the proportion of design changes in project completion. The study classified samples by the causes of design changes specified in the Ministry of Planning and Finance's contract regulations, assigning rankings based on the occurrence rates of each cause. Furthermore, it analyzed detailed factors for each cause of design change and derived implications to propose improvement measures. Considering the limited access to military primary data, this case study is expected to contribute to minimizing design changes in defense and military facility projects. Additionally, it is anticipated to be practically useful for subsequent research on contract amount adjustments resulting from design changes.

  • This study was conducted to determine the status of allergic diseases and mental health in adolescents, confirm the relationship between allergic diseases and mental health, and provide basic data for developing effective disease management measures for adolescents at the developmental stage. Secondary analysis was performed on the data from the 17th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey, and complex sample descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, and logistic regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 26.0 program. As a result of the study, those with one or more allergic diseases were 1.286 times more likely to have stress (B=1.286, p<.000), 1.289 times more likely to be depressed (B=1.289, p<.000), and 1.399 times more likely to have generalized anxiety disorder (B=1.399, p<.000) was highly likely to experience it. Additionally, factors affecting the mental health of adolescents with allergic diseases were gender, economic level, academic performance, drinking experience, and smoking experience. Stress and generalized anxiety disorder were more likely to be experienced by female students, if they had a lower economic level and academic performance, and if they drank alcohol or smoked. Male students were more likely to experience depression if their economic level and academic performance were higher, and if they did not drink alcohol or smoke. Based on these results, we hope to establish a practical approach by establishing effective strategies to manage allergic diseases in adolescents and the mental health conditions that may arise from them.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to introduce the Institutional Review Board (IRB) member-based internal audit method performed at A University Hospital, a secondary medical institution, and to identify the differences in audit results according to the characteristics of each auditor and the factors affecting the internal audit results. Furthermore, we will find out what needs to be improved in the internal audits to achieve Quality assurance (QA) objectives for human subject research conducted in medical institutions. Methods: The auditors were divided into group A (IRB member belonging to institution A) and group B (clinical trial QA administrator belonging to other institutions) and independently inspected the 2 studies using the same internal audit checklist (consisting of 11 domains, 130 items), and the differences in the internal inspection checklists written by each auditor were compared and analyzed. Results: In the case of audit for the study 1, the number of missing checklists is 1 for group A and 0 for group B, and the number of the matters to be pointed out is 1 for group A and 12 for group B. In the case of audit for the study 2, the number of missing checklists is 2 for both A and B, and the number of points is 5 for A and 4 for B. The differences in the internal audit results written by each auditor that the authors verified are summarized as follows. First, there were more comments from group B auditor than from group A auditor. Second, the results may vary because each auditor has different criteria for evaluating the appropriateness of an item. Third, there are cases where the questions on the checklist are vague or the definition is not clear, so they have the same opinion but check it with different answers. Fourth, if the auditors make a mistake when filling out the checklist, it causes to led to different the results. Conclusion: We propose the following items that should be improved in order to conduct consistent and efficient internal audits. First, it is necessary to test the tool in order to carry out reliable and consistent internal audits. Second, it is necessary to complete specialized training related to internal audit before conducting internal audit. Third, before notifying the audit results, it is necessary to have a procedure or a final review system to check whether the audit contents are appropriate. Fourth, Institutional support is needed to recruit specialized personnel for internal audits.

  • The purpose of this study is a descriptive research study to identify middle-aged women's positive thinking, perceived health status, aging anxiety, and meaning of life, identify relationships between variables, and analyze predictive factors affecting the meaning of life. This study was approved by IRB (1040117-202208-HR-024-01), from September 10, 2022 to February 28, 2023, data were collected from 130 middle-aged women. The data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 26.0 version. Positive thinking and perceived health status(r=.43, p<.001), positive thinking and meaning of life(r=.54, p<.001), perceived health state and meaning of life(r=.31, p<.001) showed a statistically significant positive correlation. Positive thinking and aging anxiety(r=-.20, p=.021) and perceived health state and aging anxiety(r=-.46, p<.001) showed a statistically significant negative correlation. Aging anxiety and meaning of life(r=-.10, p=.281) were not statistically significant. Factors influencing the meaning of life among middle-aged women were found to be positive thinking (𝛽=.52, p<.001), menopausal status (𝛽=-.22, p=.003), with meaning of life (F=32.49, p<.001) explaining 32.8%. As the positive thinking of middle-aged women has been identified as a predictor of the meaning of life, it is considered necessary to develop an intervention program to promote positive thinking of middle-aged women.
