This study aimed to identify leaf sheath function through the investigation of effect of removal times and removed number of leaf sheath on growth and flowering in gladiolus. The leaf sheath influenced on the growth and flowering regardless of light condition at early growth stages. When total leaf sheath were removed in early growth stages, flower stalk length and spike length remarkably decreased. Whereas days of flowering were little different by leaf sheath removal. Also when removed numbers of leaf sheath were 1, 2 and 3, the growth and flowering were little different compared to control. But when removed numbers of leaf sheath were 4, flower stalk length decreased above 25cm compared to others treatment, spike length and number of flower decreased and stem diameter became thick abnormally.

The study aimed to identify leaf sheath through the investigation a characteristic of leaf by planting depth and leaf sheath function through the investigation of effect of leaf sheath removals on growth and flowering in forcing of Lilium cultivars. The number of leaf sheath of 'Jolanda', 'Dream Land', 'Casablanca' were 6, 5, 11 in 0cm planting depth and 6, 5, 14 in 6cm planting depth. The number of leaf sheath in 'Jolanda' and 'Dream Land' were little different in according to planting depth. The other hand, the number of leaf sheath in 'Casablanca' were increased 3 when it were planted in 6cm planting depth. As leaf sheath were removed, plant height and stem root growth were decreased in 'Le Reve' and 'Casablanca'. Whereas the growth of basal root and flower number varied among of Lillium and stem diameter, the days of flowering and flower size were little different.

With isogenic waxy and non-waxy rice cultivars, growth responce as affected by leaf-removal treatment were examined in various fertilizer application. Vertical dry matter of culm was significantly decreased from ground upto 10cm. Culm dry matter of waxy rice was more steadily decreased than that of non-waxy rice. Starch content of culm in non-waxy rice was higher than waxy rice, and that in waxy and non-waxy rice were the lowest in three leaf-removal but no difference in single leaf-removal. Flag leaf in waxy rice and 2 nd leaf in non-waxy rice were dominantly affected yield by leaf-removal. The 1000-grain weight and rippend grain ratio of non-waxy rice were more higher than waxy rice and that in waxy and non-waxy rice were the lowest value in three leaf-removal but no difference in single leaf-removal treatments.

This study was conducted to investigation of effect of removal times and parts of leaf sheath by planting deph(0.6cm) on growth and flowering in forcing of Lilium species. Plant height is reduced by leaf sheath removal at early growth stages when bulbs were planted 6 cm of depth in 'Gelria and 0 cm in both of Jolanda' and Dream Land', respectively, but stem diameter and flower size were little different. Days to flowering of 3 cultivar except 'Gelria' were shorten in 6cm plant depth.

This experiment was conducted to clarify the effect of double layer mulching on reducing the labor required to weed control and Leaf sheath training of the garlic cultivation. Six mulching methods(non-mulching, transparent P.E., rice hull+transparent P.E., sawdust+transparent P.E., rice straw+transparent P.E., black P.E. film+ transparent P.E.) were used for the experiment, and transparent P.E film was removed on April 10.
