  • For the safe handling of aniline, this study was investigated the explosion limits of aniline in the reference data. And the lower flash points, upper flash points and AITs(auto-ignition temperatures) by ignition delay time were experimented. The lower flash point of aniline by using Setaflash and Penski-Martens closed-cup testers were experimented $66^{\circ}C$ and $73^{\circ}C$, respectively. The lower flash point aniline by using Tag and Cleveland open cup testers were experimented $72^{\circ}C$ and $78^{\circ}C$, respectively. Also, this study measured relationship between the AITs and the ignition delay times by using ASTM E659 tester for aniline. The experimental AIT of aniline was $590^{\circ}C$. The calculated LEL and UEL by using the measured low flash point and upper flash point were 1.16 Vol.% and 8.36 Vol.%, respectively.

  • Three way catalyst has been used extensively for the exhaust gas treatment for the internal combustion gasoline engine. While, numerous research efforts have been directed to develop various technologies for the abatement of exhaust gas from diesel engine. Diesel engine operating under lean condition produces large amount of NOx and the corresponding catalytic technology employing vanadium supported titania using ammonia has been commercialized for heavy duty vehicle. Recently, the Cu catalyst supported on zeolite has been investigated for NOx abatement using ammonia because of its critical importance for ultra low emission vehicle. The current review shows the recent trend in research and development for zeolite based copper catalysts, which are mainly used as catalysts for selective catalytic reduction using ammonia, are one of the aftertreatment technologies for effectively removing nitrogen oxides from diesel exhaust.

  • To evaluate the safety of propane cylinder, the flame test was performed by the flame exposure scenario of propane cylinder. The cylinder which was exposed in a flame was rapidly occurred to increase the internal pressure by liquid expansion, if so it cause of physical explosion. Therefore, the cylinder which was applied with thermal pressure relief device sholud be not bursted and the propane should be discharged to outside safely. The flame average temperature that was around of cylinder is $600^{\circ}C$, and then it increased $700^{\circ}C$ by discharged propane. The result of flame test, the cylinder was deformed, but it was not bursted. The regulations of flame exposure test for propane cylinder were not restricted, this paper can be applied to restrict the flame test if the cylinder is possible to expose the flame. Also, the results is expected as reference for estimation of the pressure cylinder performance.

  • Aluminum dusts, from micro to nano-scale, are widely used in various applications such as propulsion and pyrotechnic compounds because of high burning rate. In this study, the pyrolysis hazard of aluminum dusts with different median size (sized by 70 nm, 100 nm, $6{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$) were investigated experimentally. The thermal decomposition characteristics of aluminum dusts with the variation of heating rate were investigated using TGA (Thermo gravimetric analysis) and was estimated the minimum ignition temperature from temperature of weight gain in nano and micro-sized aluminum dusts with different diameter. In the same condition of heating rate, the temperature of weight gain in aluminum dust layers increased with increasing of particle size and increased with increasing of heating rates in air. From the results, it was estimated that the pyrolysis hazard of aluminum dusts decrease with increasing of mean diameter.

  • For the safe handling of isopropyl alcohol, the explosion limits were investigated. The lower flash points, upper flash points, fire point, and AITs(autoignition temperatures) by ignition time delay for isopropyl alcohol were experimented. By using literature data, the lower and upper explosion limits of isopropyl alcohol were recommended as 2.0 and 12.0 vol%, respectively. The lower flash points of isopropyl alcohol were experimented $12{\sim}14^{\circ}C$ by using closed-cup tester and $18{\sim}19^{\circ}C$ by using open cup tester. And the upper flash points of isopropyl alcohol was experimented $38^{\circ}C$ by using Setaflash closed-cup tester. This study measured relationship between the AITs and the ignition delay times by using ASTM E659 apparatus was $463^{\circ}C$.

  • The superposing effect of SPCP(Surfoce Induced Plasma Chemical Process) and corona discharge has been studied for rerroval of NOx from industrial flue gases. NOx rermval rates by SPCP, corona discharge and superposing discharge were monitored and compared. Parameters were the concentration and the flow rate of gas, frequency and the type of discharge. Experirrental results showed that NOx removal rate by sUIffPOSing discharge was 10-15[%] higher than that by the other two modes. The higher NOx. rermval rate was observed with the lower frequency of upper electrode in the combined reactor and with the higher frequency of lower electrode. 'The maximum obtainable NOx. rerroval rate by SPCP (18 [W]) and corona discharge (8.5 [W]) was 80[%] and 10[%], respectively. With the combination of the two modes, however, 90[%] of NOx removal rate was observed with the discharge power of 14 [W].14 [W].

  • It was carried out consequence analysis(CA) of CNG (compressed natural gas) service station and we compared the results of CA of CNG service station with LPG service station which was installed by high Pressure gas law. The results of CA were that distance of CNG LFL was 1.5 times than the length of LPG LFL. Thermal radiation effect about CNG may not be showed damage of process facilities, but in the case of LPG, it was enough to have an large damage effect on a downtown. The thermal radiation of 37.5 $kw/m^2$ extended 12.6 m. Also, in the case of 12.5 $kw/m^2$ which was able to burn wood, the radiation effect of LPG is 3 times than CNG.

  • In this study the possibility of hydrogen as a fuel in a small-sized two-stroke SI (Spark ignition) engine was investigated. For this purpose, experimental setup including an engine, a dynamometer, equipments for hydrogen and lubricant oil supply was prepared. And then preliminary experiments for the hydrogen-fueled engine combustion were conducted. In the case of hydrogen-fueled engines comparing to gasoline backfire occurs when the excess air ratio is lower than a specific value. This can cause engine power reduction and damage to the engine parts. The engine was controlled to operate at lean conditions to prevent backfire. Through the control of excess air ratio, the maximum engine brake power output of 3 kW was achieved in a 210 cc engine, while it was 6 kW in case of gasoline fuel.

  • Static seals are used to seal high temperature gas and cryogenic fluid under high pressure, at interfaces between liquid rocket engine components such as combustion chamber, turbopump, gas generator, valves, etc. As thermal expansion and contraction at assembly interfaces cause undesirable leakage under cryogenic and high temperature environments, static seals applied for sealing of joint interfaces without relative motion should be designed properly. The additional function of rotation at the sealing face is also required for static seals, when the spherical flange is used for improvement of assembly at misalignment interfaces. In this study, structural analysis and leak tightness test of simulating test rig for several important interfaces are performed, to verify structural integrity of static seals.

  • Since semiconductor factories are located in densely populated areas, safe handling of hazardous materials handled in the manufacturing process is of utmost importance. In particular, the types of hazardous substances discharged after handling in the semiconductor manufacturing process are very diverse, and the treatment methods such as combustion, absorption and adsorption methods for each material are very complicated. Therefore, in recent semiconductor exhaust treatment processes, two or more treatment methods are applied to one treatment facility, and unexpected accidents occur due to the application of such a complex treatment method. In this study, the cause of accidents in treatment facilities that applied both the scrubber method and the electrostatic precipitation method, which are recent accident cases, are identified, and preventive measures are suggested to find out the points to be noted when applying the complex treatment method.
