A Study on the Characteristics of Narrative Transformation in Fairy Tale : Focusing on Victor W. Turner's 'Social-Drama' Theory (동화 <빨간 구두>의 서사 변용 특성 연구: 빅터 터너의 '사회적 드라마' 이론을 중심으로)

  • Fairy tales are rooted in folk tales and contain human unconsciousness and universal emotions. It also plays a role as original content in various narrative transformation works. Andersen's brings numerous signification through symbolic signs of red shoes, dance, and ankle amputation. Victor W.Turner's theory of social drama broadens the perspective of narrative analysis. In addition, this theory makes us realize the conditions of the social community required by society at the time. As a circular content, Andersen's shows the double entry narrative of growth as a woman and incorporation into the social community. In this process, the social conditions accepted and rejected are symbolically revealed. In Koo Byung-mo's novel , achromatic color and red color are contrasted. The red world is full of vitality and represents the meaning of human existence. Yoon Mi-kyung's fairy tale is divided into different characters from the girl's growth narrative and the outsider's entry into the women's society. This work accuses preconceived notions and prejudices against multicultural families and strangers.

A Comparative Analysis of Poverty Regimes (빈곤 레짐에 관한 비교연구 - 유럽연합 회원국과 한국을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper purports to evaluate the public assistance programme of Korea in comparison with those of member states of the European Union, using the concept of poverty regime as a heuristic device. For this purpose, chapter two discusses notions of welfare-state regime (Esping-Andersen, 1990) and poverty regime(Sainsbury and Morissen, 2002). Chapter three examines poverty and income distribution in Korea and the member states of the EU, and chapter four compares and analyses the public assistance programme of those countries, using hierarchical cluster analysis. It claims that the 'welfare paradox' of $L{\empty}delmel$ (1997) is not based on evidence, and duly concludes that the overall level of welfare effort such as welfare expenditure is a main determinant for the development of public assistance programmes.

  • This paper purports to compare the differences and similarities of social exclusions in Korea with those in the European countries, notably Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Ireland and U.K. For this purpose, chapter two examines political and social origins of social exclusion as an alternative concept to poverty or unemployment. Chapter three discusses social exclusion paradigms of Silver(1994) in reference to welfare regime theories of Esping-Andersen(1990). Subsequently chapter four, using two artificial social exclusion indicators by principal component analysis, defines the basic nature of social exclusion of Korea in comparison with those of the six European countries. Chapter five duly concludes that social exclusions in Korea are very similar to those of liberal countries (Ireland and U.K.) in that income indicators (poverty and inequality) of Korea are much worse, whereas unemployment rate is relatively low.

Comparative Analysis on 「The Snow Queen」 and -Focusing on A.J. Greimas' semiology (「눈의 여왕」과 <겨울왕국>의 비교분석 -그레마스의 기호학을 중심으로)

  • It is very common to produce fairytales, folktales, or fables into animations. If they often transform existing works into animations, we may have to examine how they change the original to communicate with the audience and also how they change the original's subject matter or theme to create meaning. The purpose of this study is to consider how the original's meaning and value were changed as Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, "The Snow Queen", was converted into an animation, , and also how it influenced the work itself. To attain the goal, this author is going to comparatively analyze the two works' narratives, actants, and semiotic squares by using A.J. Greimas' semiology. According to the findings, although "The Snow Queen" expresses the desire to go back to happy days in the past, it is not a simple return to the past but a stepwise process to become mature mentally as well as religiously. Meanwhile, intends to generate past-oriented meaning expressing the desire to return what is abnormal in the present to what was normal in the past and resolve the individual and religious aspects of "The Snow Queen" in a social and popular way.
