Effect of the Urban Land Cover Types on the Surface Temperature: Case Study of Ilsan New City (도시지역의 토지피복유형이 지표면온도에 미치는 영향: 경기도 일산 신도시를 중심으로)

  • The physical environment of urban areas covered mostly by concrete and asphalt is the main cause of the urban heat island effect, primarily becoming apparent through increased land surface temperature. This study examined the effect of different urban land cover types on the land surface temperature using MODIS, Landsat ETM+ and RapidEye satellite data. As a result, the remote sensing based land surface temperature showed a marked difference according to the land use pattern in the case study of Ilsan new city. The high-rise apartment residential districts with less building-to-land ratio and higher green area ratio revealed lower land surface temperature than the low-story single-family housing districts characterized by relatively high building-to-land ratio and low green area ratio. From the view of climate zone and land cover types, there is a strong linear correlation between the impervious land cover ratio and the land surface temperature; the land surface temperature increases as the impervious built-up areas expand. In contrast, vegetation;water and shadow areas affect the decrease of land surface temperature. There is also a negative (-) correlation between NDVI and land surface temperature but the seasonal variation of NDVI can be hardly corrected.

  • The user authentication and authorization in the current home network system almost works at home and home users, sometimes novice, should manage the system directly. This situation can make much of troubles, sometimes cause some suity problems. Moreover, the system costs high to build up, demands special user knowledge to maintain. In this paper, we propose the user authentication and authorization system based on remote management server to solve the problems, designed and implemented the system. To verify the system performance and function, we built a demo system for information appliances. The results of the test, the authentication and authorization function works well and reliably.

  • During the winter season, when the weather gets colder every year, electricity consumption increases rapidly. The occurrence of fires is increasing due to a short circuit in electrical facilities of buildings such as markets, bathrooms, and apartments with high population density while using a lot of electricity. The cause of these short circuit fires is mostly due to the aging of the wires, the usage increases, and the excessive load cannot be endured, and the wire sheath is melted and caused by nearby ignition materials. In this paper, the load and overheat generated in the electric wire are measured through a complex sensor composed of an overload sensor, a VoC sensor, and an overheat sensor. Based on this, big data analysis is carried out to develop a platform capable of predicting, alerting, and blocking electric fires in real time, and a simulator capable of simulated fire experiments.

  • During the winter season, when electricity usage increases rapidly every year, fires are frequent due to short circuits in aging electrical facilities in multi-use facilities such as traditional markets and jjimjilbangs, apartments, and multi-family houses. Most of the causes of such fires are caused by excessive loads applied to aging wires, causing the wire covering to melt and being transferred to surrounding ignition materials. In this study, we implement a system that measures the overload and overheating of the wire through a composite sensor, detects the toxic gas generated there, and logs it to the server through the gateway. Based on this, we will develop a platform that can predict, alarm and block electric fires in real time through big data analysis, and a simulator that can simulate fire occurrence experiments.

  • Recent seismic activities in countries like China and Turkey have underscored the widespread and severe damages that earthquakes can inflict globally. Being situated in a seismically active zone, South Korea can no longer regard itself as immune to earthquake hazards, necessitating the urgent adoption of proactive measures against such threats. The government has been proactive in evaluating, formulating processes, and methods for the seismic retrofitting of public buildings lacking in earthquake resistance. However, enforcement mechanisms for privately-owned apartment complexes are absent, and in the face of insufficient previous research and guidelines, preemptive measures for public safety remain alarmingly inadequate. With over 48% of residential structures in Korea aged over 30 years, and apartment complexes constituting more than 80% of these, the gravity of the situation is undeniable. This study deduces key factors for seismic retrofitting of apartment buildings like earthquake zones, soil type, building significance, aging degree, vulnerability, etc., based on building seismic design codes. It further proposes an algorithm for a more succinct and efficient determination of the priority of seismic reinforcements for apartment buildings.

A Study on the Status of Low-rise Buildings (국내 저층 건축물의 현황에 관한 고찰)

  • 국내의 건축물에 관한 통계정보는 국토해양부에 의해서 공표된 통계연보로서 2002년부터 매년마다 제공되고 있다.(국토해양통계누리, https : //stat.mltm.go.kr/potal/stat/yearReport.do) 건축물의 통계연보는 과거부터 2002년까지 매 3년마다 공표된 것으로 알려지고 있다. 이 통계연보에는 건축물 현황과 건축허가착공 통계가 수록되어 있다. 건축물 현황에는 2009년 말을 기준으로 기존 건축물이 전체 6,618,131동으로서 용도별, 층수와 연면적별 그리고 소유구분별 등의 구분에 따라 건축물의 동수에 관한 통계자료가 포함돼 있다. 건축허가 및 착공통계에는 용도별과 구조재료별의 분류에 따라 건축물의 동수에 관한 자료가 신축, 증축 개축 이전 대수선, 용도변경 등으로 분류되어 수록돼 있다. 한편 국내에서 건축물에 대한 내진설계기준이 1988년에 제정됨에 따라 법제화되었다. 이때 내진설계의 의무 대상건축물은 6층 이상 또는 연면적 1만$m^2$이상인 건축물로 규정되었다. 그 이후 내진설계 대상 건축물이 1996년부터 아파트는 5층 이상으로, 판매시설은 연면적 5천$m^2$이상으로 확대되었고, 2000년부터 숙박시설 오피스텔 및 기숙사는 5층 이상으로 확대되었으며, 2005년부터 내진설계 의무화 대상이 3층 이상 또는 1천$m^2$이상으로 확대되었고, 2009년부터 3층 이상 건축물의 구조안전의 확인을 위한 세부절차를 규정하여 내진설계의 실효성을 확보하고 있다. 이와 같이 내진설계의 대상 건축물이 내진설계기준을 제정한 이후 현재까지 시대의 흐름에 따라 6층 이상에서 5층 이상으로 다시 3층 이상으로 계속 확대되어왔다. 이런 환경에서 현재 시점에서 사용 중인 기존 건축물 중에 내진설계가 적용되지 아니한 건축물은 1988년 3월 1일 이전에 건축허가 된 건축물과 그 이후에 건축허가 된 3층 내지 5층 이하인 저층 건축물의 두 가지로 구분할 수 있다. 이들의 내진설계가 미적용 된 건축물에 대해서는 원칙적으로 내진보강 대책 수립 및 추진이 필요한 실정이다. 국내에서는 현재 지진재해대책법에 따라 지진재해로부터 국민의 생명과 재산을 보호하기 위하여 기존 시설물에 대한 내진대책을 추진하는 정책이 시행되고 있다. 앞으로는 이 정책의 일환으로 기존 건축물의 내진성능 확보를 위한 내진보강 대책이 구체적으로 추진될 전망이다. 이와 같이 기존 건축물에 대한 내진보강 대책을 수립하는 데는 무엇보다 그 대상 건축물의 수와 구조형식에 관한 정보가 필요하다. 이는 내진보강의 방법과 소요비용이 건축물의 층수 및 구조형식별 동수에 따라 크게 달라지기 때문이다. 이런 관점에서 살펴볼 때 내진대책의 수립에 필수인 기존 저층 건축물의 층수 및 구조형식별 동수에 관한 통계자료를 현재 건축물의 현황통계에서 손쉽게 찾아 볼 수 있으면 좋겠는데 현실은 그렇지 못한 실정이다. 현재 건축물의 현황통계에는 저층 건축물에 해당하는 층수에 관한 구분이 연대에 따라 다르고 구체적인 층수를 구분하기 어렵게 불분명한 항목으로 구성된 것과 구조형식별 분류항목이 없는 형편이다. 반면에 건축허가 및 착공통계자료에는 구조재료별 건축물 동수와 연면적에 관한 자료가 수록되어있고, 건축물 층수에 따라 분류된 통계자료는 없다. 이 연구에서는, 기존 건축물에 대한 내진보강 대책을 수립하는데 필요한 저층 건축물의 층수 및 구조재료별 동수 등에 관한 구체적인 정보를 파악하기 위하여, 건축물 통계연보에 수록된 건축물 현황통계자료에서 불명확하거나 결여된 정보를 건축허가 및 착공 통계자료로부터 얻은 정보로 보완과 보충하여 제시하고 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 기존 건축물의 내진보강 대책 수립에 필요한 5층 이하의 저층 건축물에 관한 층수별 및 구조형식별 동수에 관한 연도별 통계자료를 추정하여 제안하는데 그 목적이 있다.

Occurrence of Culex pipiens (Diptera, Culicidae) and Effect of Vent Net Sets for Mosquito Control at Septic Tanks in South-eastern Area of the Korean Peninsula (한반도 동남부 지역 정화조 내의 빨간집모기군(群)(Culex pipiens complex) 발생과 정화조 환기통의 방충망 설치에 의한 방제효과)

  • Culex pipiens complex larvae were found at the septic tanks in Busan and Ulsan cities located in South-eastern area of Korean peninsula. The larvae were collected in 25, 35 and 75 septic tanks out of 3,527, 622 and 1,111 septic tanks which the breeding rates were averages of 0.7%, 5.6% and 6.8% in Busan from January to May, 2003; Busan from February to March, 2004; and Ulsan from January to April, 2005, respectively. The average numbers of the mosquitoes in the tanks were 38.8, 14.9 and 13.7 larvae/dip with a 355-ml dipper. The larval densities were from 25.4 larvae/dip in January to 43.7 larvae/dip in April. 2003 which were not significantly different between them. It was the first report to find mosquito breeding at septic tink in Republic of Korea. Culex pipiens larvae were found in 6 out of 379 septic tanks at complex buildings (over $2,000m^2$ in size) in Ulsan from June to September, 2005, having an average of 1.6% for mosquito breeding rate. The mosquito larvae were collected in 8 and 530 septic tanks out of 210 and 3,729 septic tanks at large (over 300 homes) and small apartments (below 300 homes) with 3.8% and 14.2% of the average breeding rates, respectively At the septic tanks of private houses for below 50 persons, 708 out of 7,178 septic tan had Cx. pipiens larvae and pupae with 9.9% of the average breeding rate. Total average of the mosquito breeding rate was 10.9% of the investigated septic tanks of residential buildings in Ulsan. The number of mosquito larvae in the septic tanks were 15 to 75 larvae/dip. The bent net sets of septic tanks prevented from mosquito breeding to the rate of 93.1%.

Determining Major Items of Scheduled Maintenance for Apartment through Case Data: Focused on Improving the Establishment Standard for Long-term Repair Program (사례 데이터 분석을 통한 공동주택 계획수선 주요 항목 도출: 법령 상의 장기수선계획 수립기준 현실화를 중심으로)

  • The long-term repair program is significant as the execution standard for apartment in repair construction, and provides the basis for effective facility management through appropriation reserve and preventive maintenance. Considering its importance, the government legislates the items, cycle, and ratio for long-term repair. However, the frequent changes, controversies on repair, and difficulties in using appropriation reserve are caused as the items have not been revised on time reflecting up-to-date construction technologies. In order to resolve these problems, it is required to improve the standard by evaluating the appropriateness of repair items throughout the analysis of actual conditions. This study aims to suggest the revision plan for the criteria with the major items based on the status identified by the actual long-term repair programs and historical repair construction data. To do this, the adoption ratios of items to program are reviewed by collecting the real cases of the long-term repair programs. Developing improvement plan was approached in two ways such as "exclusion method" deleting minimum unnecessary items and "selection method" sorting out items with high adoption ratio and evidence of repair in a positive manner. Aa a result, the major items were identified as 118 items and 73 items by exclusion method and selection method respectively from the current 147 items. The outcomes of this study are expected to contribute enhancing the practicality of the standard in that the regulation for long-term repair program should periodically reflect the status of currently applied construction methods and materials.

  • Mountain and hill areas occupy by more than 70% in South Korea and Rock drilling should be applied in order to reduce noisy & vibration from massive civil engineering business such as road expansion, high-way construction, subway construction and construction of site renovation such as a newly-built & re-development of apartment, newly-built of high-rising building in downtown area. As Blasting noise & vibration such as vibration, noise, fly rock etc caused by blasting operation from large small scale construction occurs, neighboring residents who demand the compensation file a civil complaint so that the business reach a deadlock. As the excavation method for these areas, There are blasting of micro-vibration, mechanical excavation method(Rock splitter, Breaker etc), similar blasting method(plasma, gel fragmentation etc) to date. In this study, we are trying to find the feature & performance which get improved economic feasibility & construct ability through improving sympathetic detonation of New KINECKER-I used in blasting of micro-vibration & formulation and would provide convenience for use by introducing standard blasting pattern & construction method. Also, checked and confirmed all the blasting with connecting cap has been cleary detonated.

Comparison of ASTER Satellite and Ground-Based Surface Temperature Measurements for Urban Heat Island Studies (도시열섬연구를 위한 ASTER 위성영상과 지표면의 표면온도 비교)

  • This study aimed to validate the ASTER surface temperature using field measurements over various land use types in the urban area of Changwon City, South Korea. The ASTER surface temperature was measured by collecting eight images during daytime and nighttime in June and September from 2012 to 2014, and field measurements were conducted over the same period when the satellite images were taken. The analyses showed that the surface temperature measured in the field during the daytime was higher than that of satellite imageries by $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$, and the gap was higher in built-up areas. The calibration models of surface temperature showed a 60% explanatory power in areas other than parks, indicating that the models are reliable. During nighttime, except for the summer month of August, ASTER surface temperature was determined to be approximately $2^{\circ}C$ higher in contrast to daytime.
