The Effects of Radiation Therapy on Peripheral Lymphocytes in Head and Neck Cancers (방사선 치료가 두경부 악성종양 환자의 말초혈액 림프구에 미치는 영향)

  • It is generally agreed that cellular immune functions are damaged by radiation therapy(RT). However, the exact effects of RT on peripheral lymphocytes are not yet clear. Authors previously reported the radiation effects on lymphocytes subpopulations, but these results merely showed the alteration of proportion of lymphocytes subpopulations after RT. So we try to evaluate the number of lymphocytes in each subpopulations as well as the proportion of subpopulations, and the recovery patterns of these alterations by time duraion after RT. The result shows that the proportion of subpopulations and number of lymphocytes in each subpopulations are decreased after RT except natural killer cells(NK cells), which proportion is increased but number is not changed, and these changes are stationary continued for post RT 6 months and then gradually recovered. However, the radiation effects on peripheral lymphocytes still remain after one year.

Genetic Variation of Korean Fir Sub-Populations in Mt. Jiri for the Restoration of Genetic Diversity (유전다양성 복원을 위한 지리산 구상나무 아집단의 유전변이)

  • To provide a ecological restoration strategy considering genetic diversity of Abies koreana in Mt. Jiri, the genetic diversity and the genetic differentiation among sub-populations such as Banyabong, Byeoksoryeong, and Cheonwangbong were investigated. The average number of alleles (A) was 7.8, the average number of effective alleles ($A_e$) was 4.9, observed heterozygosity ($H_o$) was 0.578, and expected heterozygosity ($H_e$) was 0.672, respectively. The level of genetic diversity within sub-populations ($H_e=0.672$) was lower than those of both population ($H_e=0.778$) and species ($H_e=0.759$) level. However, the level of genetic diversity was high compared those of Genus Abies. Genetic differentiation was 0.014 from F-statistics ($F_{ST}$) and was 0.004 from AMOVA analysis (${\Phi}_{ST}$). There was no almost genetic differentiation among sub-populations in Mt. Jiri from bayesian clustering. Therefore, If the seeds are sampled sufficiently by selecting the parameters from three sub-populations, it is possible that we could obtain genetically appropriate materials for ecological restoration.

  • This paper analysed the architectural images on Pleasant Gathering of Leeum, Samsung museum of art, which has been assumed as a work of the Koryo dynasty. Through the comparison between the unique wooden structure at roof edge on the building images and real architectures, it found the buildings on the painting were from China Fujian(福建), not from Korea. It also analysed the color painting on buildings, trees, themes from previous famous paintings and dresses to confirm these images were came from the early period of the Ming dynasty. It is a very unique painting containing various information on the Fujian ancient architecture, but its architecture drawing is not as skillful as typical ancient Chinese paintings.

Genetic Diversity and Structure of a Rare and Endemic, Spring Ephemeral Plant Corydalis filistipes Nakai of Ullung Island in Korea (울릉도 희귀.특산 식물 섬현호색의 유전적 다양성과 구조)

  • For the spring ephemeral and myrmecochorous perennia, Corydalis filistipes Nakai (Fumariaceae), rare and narrow endemic to Ullung Island in Korea, genetic diversity and structure of 4 subpopulations of the species were investigated with allozyme markers. Levels of genetic diversity (A=1.73, $P_{95%}$=61..2%, Ho=0.201, He=0.167) were relatively lower than those of other endemic species with widespread distribution range, but considerably higher than other endemic species with similar life history traits isolated in island. The moderate level of genetic diversity within subpopulations in C. filistipes is characteristic of the species with predominantly outcrossing, myrmecochorous seed dispersal by dual function of the elaisome and mode of sexual and asexual reproduction by the cleistogamy. The analysis of fixation indices showed an overall excess of heterozygotes (mean $F_{IS}=-0.1889,\;F_{IT}=-0.1226$) relative to H-W expectations. About 5.6% of the total genetic variation was found among subpopulations ($F_{ST}$=0.0557). The strategies of reasonable conservation and management, and the maintenance mechanism of genetic diversity of Corydalis filistipes Nakai, endemic plant species in Korea were discussed.

  • In this study, we examined the direction of the elderly education to improve the quality of life in the intelligence information society on the basis of the wisdom shown in the "Pan-jo wu-chih lun" of Seng-Zhao. The characteristics of the elderly in the intelligence information society are four-fold. First, the elderly show no deterioration in wisdom. Second, they have a lot of leisure time. Third, they are likely not to adapt in a rapidly changing society. Fourth, they are exposed to an economically vulnerable environment. But in the intelligence information society, the elderly cannot avoid death, and it is difficult for them to have insight into their existence due to the egotism, they take the attitude of attaching themselves only to exiting things. The direction of the Elderly Education to solve the problem is as follows: First, "Learning to know that Life-and-Death-and-suffering is temporary" is to make the elderly aware that the coming mind and the disappearing mind for a specific object are temporary and S?nya. Second, "Learning to be while eliminating the egotism" is set them free from the dogmatism that there is the attan. Third, "Learning to do to break the attachment" is to disabuse them of the idea that things will turn out according to their expectation through an awakening and to transforming their behavior.

  • 육계 사육은'종합 예술'이라고 생각한다. 한 악기의 연주가 맞지 않으면 좋은 하모니(Harmony)를 이룰 수 없듯이 육계 사육도 한가지라도 부족하면 최고의 성적은 불가능하기 때문이다. 이렇게 얘기하면 성적이 최고냐고 반문하는 사람도 있겠지만 농가에서는 가장 중요한 것이 시세도 아니고 사육 시기도 아닌 잘 사육하는 것이 최우선 과제다. 그러기 위해서는 부단한 연구$\cdot$노력으로 신기술(新技術)을 습득하고 병아리를 선별할 수 있고, 사료를 선택할 수 있는 선구안(先具眼)을 가지고, 질병을 잘 방어할 수 있는 능력도 길러야 최고의 성적을 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

Effects of Orostachys japonicus A. Berger on the Immune System (와송(瓦松) 추출물이 면역체계에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of Orostachys japonicus A. Berger (OJB) on the immune system. Administration of OJB (500 mg/kg) enhanced viability of splenocytes and thymocytes in BALB/c mice, and also OJB increased of splenic T lymphocytes, significantly, increased CD4 positive $T_H$ cells and CD8 positive Tc cells. OJB markedly, enhanced the production of ${\gamma}-interferon$ in mice serum. OJB accelerated the apoptosis of L1210 and U937 leukemia cells and increased the expression of apoptosis-related ICE, c-myc, p53 gene. These results suggest that OJB have an immuno-regulatory and anti-cancer activity.

  • If Industrial state-of-the-art technology that made through IT convergence should be to build safely environment that can protect then IT technology and manufacturing industry become convergence and a growth engine become stable positioning. In each industry, there has been a steady effort for the industrial security. However, they introduced only managerial/technical/physical countermeasures. Therefore, it is difficult to find a reference point as industrial security necessity, protecting coverage and things and so on. It is to lack that academic research in industrial security for protecting industrial technology. In detail, a clear definition lack for industrial security. And target range classification lack for industrial security studies. In this study, we redefined the concept of industry security through previous studies. Academic classification designed industrial security studies through delphi method. we analyzed industry security trends based industrial security studies classification and presented domestic industry research orientations.
