  • In this paper, we developed optical dosimetry system with a plastic scintillator, a commercial 50 mm, f1.8 lens, and a commercial high-sensitivity CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) camera. And, the correction processors of vignetting, geometrical distortion and scaling were established. Using the developed system, we can measured a percent depth dose, a beam profile and a dose linearity for 6 MV medical LINAC (Linear Accelerator). As results, the optically measured percent depth dose was well matched with the measured percent depth dose by ion-chamber within 2% tolerance. And the determined flatness was 2.8%. We concluded that the optical dosimetry system was sufficient for application of absorbed dose monitoring during radiation therapy.

  • In this study we modeled the varian 2100C/D linear accelerator head and multi-leaf collimator by simulation with the GEANT4 Monte Carlo toolkit. Then central axis percentage depth dose profiles and lateral dose profiles within homogeneous water phantom($50{\times}50{\times}50\;cm^3$) were evaluated with 6 MV photon beam. The simulations were performed in two stages. In the first stage, photon energy spectrum at the target were computed were computed. Then spectra data was directly irradiated in the water phantom using sampling techniques. The simulation data were compared with experimental data to evaluate the accuracy of the model. Results showed that two data were matched within 2% error boundary. The proposed method will be applied for simulation of dose calculation and dose distribution study.

  • The Geant 4 simulated the linear accelerator (VARIAN CLINAC) based on the previously implemented BEAMnrC data, using the head structure of the linear accelerator. In the 10 MV photon flux, Geant4 was compared with the measured value of the percentage of the deep dose and the lateral dose of the water phantom. In order to apply the dose calculation to the body part, the actual patient's lung area was scanned at 5 mm intervals. Geant4 dose distributions were obtained by irradiating 10 MV photons at the irradiation field ($5{\times}5cm^2$) and SAD 100 cm of the water phantom. This result is difficult to measure the dose absorbed in the actual lung of the patient so the doses by the treatment planning system were compared. The deep dose curve measured by water phantom and the deep dose curve calculated by Geant4 were well within ${\pm}3%$ of most depths except the build-up area. However, at the 5 cm and 20 cm sites, 2.95% and 2.87% were somewhat higher in the calculation of the dose using Geant4. These two points were confirmed by the geometry file of Genat4, and it was found that the dose was increased because thoracic spine and sternum were located. In cone beam CT, the dose distribution error of the lungs was similar within 3%. Therefore, if the contour map of the dose can be directly expressed in the DICOM file when calculating the dose using Geant4, the clinical application of Geant4 will be used variously.

  • The cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) which can acquire 3-dimensions images is widely used for confirmation of patient position before radiation therapy. In this study, through the simulation using the Monte Carlo technique, we will analyze the exposure dose by cone beam computed tomography and present the standardized data. For the experiment, MCNPX(ver. 2.5.0) was used and the photon beam spectrum was analyzed after Cone beam was simulated. As a result of analyzing the photon beam spectrum, the average energy ranged from 25.7 to 37.6 keV at the tube voltage of 80 ~ 120 kVp and the characteristic X-ray energy was 9, 60, 68 and 70 keV. As a result of using the water phantom, the percentage depth dose was measured, and the maximum dose appeared on the surface and decreased with depth. The absorbed dose also decreased as the depth increased. The absorbed dose of the whole phantom was 9.7 ~ 18.7 mGy. This is a dose which accounts for 0.2% of about 10 Gy, which is generally used for radiation therapy per week, which is not expected to have a significant effect on the treatment effect. However, it should not be overlooked even if it is small compared with prescription dose.

  • As radiation therapy is one of three major cancer treatment methods, many cancer patients get radiation therapy. To exposure as much radiation to cancer while normal tissues near tumor get little radiation, medical physicists make a radiotherapy plan treatment and perform quality assurance before patient treatment. Despite these efforts, unintended medical accidents can occur by some errors. In order to solve the problem, patient internal dose reconstruction methods by measuring transit dose are suggested. As feasibility study for development of patient dose verification system, inverse square law, percentage depth dose and scatter factor are used to calculate dose in the water-equivalent homogeneous phantom. As a calibration results of ionization chamber and glass dosimeter to transit radiation, signals of glass dosimeter are 0.824 times at 6 MV and 0.736 times at 10 MV compared to dose measured by ionization chamber. Average scatter factor is 1.4 and Mayneord F factor was used to apply percentage depth dose data. When we verified the algorithm using the water-equivalent homogeneous phantom, maximum error was 1.65%.
