  • The word 'aesthetic', one of three functions of the teeth - mastication, pronunciation, and aesthetic - does not simply mean beauty. Aesthetic missing harmony cannot be called aesthetic. It is true aesthetic when the harmony with surrounding teeth and environment such as lips, midline, and facial form is achieved. In order to produce a harmonious prosthesis, sufficient information must be passed on to a technician, and also the technician should request necessary information to the dental office. Good food cannot be made without fresh ingredients. Although fresh ingredients are supplied, delicious food is also not possible without a chef's cooking skills. The first-class dish is made only under the circumstances that a skilled chef can do his best with fresh ingredients. In this study, the teamwork to be shared between dental practitioners and technicians for harmonious aesthetic prosthesis is discussed.

  • 전치부사이의 비정상적 공간이 생기는 원인은 순측소대, 악궁과 치아의 크기 부조화, 악습관, 과잉치, 치주염으로 인한 병적치아이동 등 다양하다. 이러한 일차적인 원인요소들을 먼저 제거한 후 남게 되는 공간을 해결하기 위해서 교정치료 또는 여러가지 보철수복방법을 고려해 볼 수 있다. 보철적으로 치료할 경우, laminate를 이용하여 심미적인 전치부를 만드는 술식은 보존적인 면에서나 심미적인 면에서 유리한 점이 있어 많이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 인접면사이에 비교적 큰 공간이 존재하며, 감소된 치주조직으로 인하여 치간유두의 소실이 많고 직경이 작은 치경부가 노출되었을 경우에는 laminate를 이용하여 공간을 수복하기가 쉽지 않기 때문에, 교정적으로 치아를 이동시킴으로서 보다 심미적인 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 본 증례는 중등도의 치주질환으로 인하여 치주조직이 감소된 상악중절치에서 정중이개의 양이 비교적 크고 치간유두의 소실 및 직경이 작은 치경부가 노출된 환자에서 laminate를 이용하여 심미적인 공간폐쇄를 도모하였다.

  • Although CAD/CAM technology has been used in dentistry for more than decades, the present CAD/CAM dentistry is still quite inefficient or unesthetic. Zirconia restoration has faced with two contradictory words, 'Efficiency' and 'Esthetics'. One can consider monolithic zirconia restoration to be efficient with CAD/CAM. The monolithic zirconia restoration, however, is rarely esthetic due to the current limitations with zirconia. On the contrary, porcelain build-up is almost indispensible in fabricating esthetic restoration, especially in anterior region. In this article, the current status of monolithic zirconia restoration and clinical cases will be presented.

  • Expectation of the patient for esthetic improvement through the dental treatment is diverse and complicated. Chief complaints of patient should be translated to objective factors reflecting patient's needs and wants. Treatment planning would be based on these demands and verified through the communicating with the patient through the procedure. Esthetic approach in dental treatment include subjective elements as well as objective ones.

  • We explore the priority between product attributes such as aesthetics and usability in consumer decision-making. In the recent study in Germany, consumers preferred a visually beautiful product but discounted the value of aesthetics in actual product choice (Diefenbach & Hassenzahl, 2009). In contrast to the individualistic culture which values personal needs(e.g., Germany), recognition from other members has great importance in the collectivistic culture (e.g., Korea). We propose that Korean consumers weigh greater value on the attribute easily perceived from the product appearance (i.e., aesthetics). We replicated the procedure of the study conducted in Germany. As expected, participants highly valued aesthetics rather than usability in product choice. As for aesthetics, participants were likely to choose an expensive but beautiful product; on the contrary a less expensive and less usable product were likely to be chosen as for usability (Study 1). Moreover, usability was sacrificed for aesthetics in the trade-off condition (Study 2). The participants who chose the beautiful product reported higher social recognition desire whereas no difference was shown with respect to usability.

  • 대부분의 디자인관련 종사자들은 심미성이 소비자의 선호에 중요한 영향을 미친다는 주장에 동의하고 있다. 하지만 어떠한 심미적 요소가 소비자 선호도에 얼마큼 영향을 미치는지에 대한 연구가 미미한 편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 심미적 영향 요소인 율동에 관한 사례연구를 통하여 구체적 영향 정도를 파악하고 연구결과를 이용 소비자 선호도를 높일 수 있는 방안 제시를 시도할 것이다.

  • 심미 영역에서 발치후 즉시 식립시 가장 기본이 되는 성공의 핵심 요소는, 발치후 발치와 리모델링에 대한 생물학적 이해와 3차원적으로 정확한 임플란트의 식립 위치다. 그에 더해서, 상악 측절치 부위는 중절치나 견치 부위와 다른 해부학적 특성을 갖고 있고 이는 발치후 즉시 식립을 할 때 치료법을 결정하고 좋은 결과를 얻는데 있어 매우 중요한 고려 요소가 된다. 순측 치조골의 함몰 정도, 인접 상악 전치 치근의 수렴 정도, 크라운-치근이 이루는 각도와 치조골 프로파일 이 세가지를 치료 전에 잘 평가하고 치료 전략을 세운다면 심미적으로 우수한 좋은 결과를 얻는데 도움이 될 것이다.

Esthetic Root Coverage for Gingival Recession (심미적인 결과를 얻기 위한 치근 피개술)

  • In dental esthetics, soft tissue plays an important part, probably very large portion of it. A clear understanding of the periodontal tissues and its management around teeth and implants help us to develop concepts for a modern dental treatment that addresses the needs of demanding patients in regard of esthetics and durability. When we talk about esthetic, we can say that one of the most important element is a harmonization with gingiva (soft tissue) called 'Pink Esthetic' As for the pink esthetics, gingival line(contour) takes most of the influence on esthetic result; it consists of labial gingival level, interproximal papilla height, and a line that connects them. In the gingival recession, labial gingival level and gingival contour move to the apical portion, and the root area is exposed. It leads to the unesthetic result. Root coverage technique is classically used to treat gingival recession (marginal tissue recession) of natural teeth. It is an essential technique on periodontal plastic surgery part. It is also a very useful technique to recover soft tissue problems in implant dentistry. So, root coverage technique must be mastered for a good implant esthetic result. The general overview of root coverage procedures will be discussed with step by step explanation to get more esthetic result.

Aesthetic elements in Product Design of Korean and Chinese's Consumer preference (한국.중국 소비자 선호 제품디자인의 심미성 요소 연구)

  • The design in modern industrial society is the core of corporate administrational strategy and a factor that determines the competitiveness of a country. And the process of purchasing products is the matter related to the awareness of design which expresses the desire to own the design product that consumers prefer, implying that the aesthetic feature of product has become a critical characteristics of product design rather than the technical function of product. In this regard, the development of product design with a new dimension is urgently called for, by analyzing and shedding light on the aesthetic features of factors related to the preference of consumers. This study considers the preceding studies on the aesthetic factors and the reaction of customers to the product design to figure out the importance of factors related to the preference of customers, in an effort to shed light on the aesthetic factors that affect the customers' preference of product and the evaluation of product. In addition to that, this study investigated the preference that Korean and Chinese customers display toward the product and assessed the aesthetic features of preferred product in order to come to the conclusion from the experiment and analysis on how much effect the aesthetic factors and the aesthetic factors by product have on the preference of customers. Therefore, this study tries to propose the data that can be useful for the design of product targeted for consumers in Korea and China, by shedding light on what aesthetic factors that products preferred by consumers in Korea and China have and how much effect such factors have on the preference of consumers in an attempt to provide the guideline on the aesthetic factors of the product design.
