  • To use fly ash as an additive for concrete, authors collected 15 kinds of domestic fly ashes and tested the chemical compositions and physical properties of the fly ashes. Fluidity of the fly ash paste was also investigated. The result shows that the chemical compositions of the fly ashes were in the range of regulation of Korean Industrial Standards except ignition loss and the following relationships in fly ash were studied; specific surface and residue in standard sieve, specific surface and unit weight, residue in standard sieve and ignition loss. For the given flow properties, fly ash paste required higher water-binder ratio than cement paste.

  • Fly ash used as a cement replacement material increases the long term strength and also improves the durability of concrete and mortar. However, the use of fly ash is a little in spite of great benefit. In order to increase the consumption of fly ash, it has to be used as a cement replacement materials in the production of mortar and concrete, and the reduction of early strength development due to the use of fly ash also has to be diminished. In this study, many chemical compounds which accelerate the early strength was investigated. The $Na_2$$SO_4$, $K_2$$SO_4$, Triethanolamine were selected and applied to the production of mortar. It was found that they enhance the early strength development of mortar(1, 3day) and decrease the amount of $Ca(OH)_2$, and also increase the production of ettringite. According to the results of mercury instruction test, the pores ranged from 0.01 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ were decreased and it was also found in the analysis of X ray and SEM that fly ash increases the amount of ettringite at early ages.

  • Multiple regression equation was derived for estimation of slump loss in ready mixed concrete and usefulness of the equation was verfied by field test. Factors affecting slump loss were examined and analyzed for transport distance and transport time of ready mixed concrete. The analysis showed that wait and discharge time of ready mixed concrete in job site caused difficulty in the slump control. To determine the influence of the other factors such as mix proportion, temperature of concrete, and dosage of admixture, experimental tests were performed. Generally, there was no significant difference in slump loss according to cement content and initial slump level. For one retarder, more slump loss was found, but difference according to dosage of admixture was not recognized.

  • With the recent development in construction industry, industrial by-products fly ash(FA) and blast furnace slag(BS) have been used in large quantities as an alternative to cement, as a solution for environmental problems and resource exhaustion. This study analyzed the basic characteristics according to the changes in replacement ratio and mixing ratio of FA and BS in high strength SCMs concrete, from which in turn it sought to find the optimal mixing ratio for high strength concrete The results showed that in unhardened concrete the more the replacement ratio and FA mixing ratio increases the slump flow will increase while amount of air decreases, and setting time is delayed. In hardened concrete the more the replacement ratio and FA mixing ratio increases the more the overall compression strength decreases, but until 28 days of material age the larger of the BS ratio displayed the best compression strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data on the optimum method for interfacial separation for an effective recycle of concrete waste by using the thermal properties of concrete. Therefore, this study is proceeded by dividing the interface of concrete into cement paste and fine aggregates or mortar and coarse aggregate, considering the aspect of recycled cement and aggregate as the recycling use of concrete waste. As results of the experiment, in case of recycle cement, the interfacial separation is easily appeared, but it is shown that the mixed amount of powder included in fine aggregate doesn't greatly decrease. But, in case of recycle coarse aggregate, the effect of interfacial separation by preliminary heating is predominant. Especially, the bonding rate of mortar is the lowest when it is heated 5 times for 120 minutes at $300^{\circ}C$. Hence, it is considered that it will be an excellent effect of quality control when the results of this study is applied to a manufacturing system of recycle coarse aggregate which is about to put into practical use.

  • This study investigates spalling properties of 60MPa class, high performance concrete, made with the various influential parameters, such as, blaine of cement, mineral admixture and polypropylene(PP) fiber contents. Totally 21 parameters of ${\phi}100{\times}200mm$ in size was fabricated; three specimens for variance in blaine of cement, 4 specimens for combination of mineral admixture type, along with 0.05, 0.1, 0.15% of fiber adding ratio. After that, one hour unloading fire test was conducted, and then spalling appearance and spalling degree of specimens was examined. Test showed that a specimen made with high blaine of cement(H) improved early strength but exhibited similar value to a specimen made with low blaine(L) at the age of 28 days, thus indicating comparable spalling appearance. In conclusion, spalling easily occur in higher strength and smaller particle shape of cement and mineral admixture.

  • This study investigates the properties of light weight foamed concrete designed with various incorporating ratios of CKD and adding ratios of PS. Test showed that increase of CKD and PS decreased fluidity of fresh concrete, which need more addition of superplasticizer to secure proper fluidity. As for the sinking depth of specimens, using more CKD or PS decreased the value, due to the improvement of viscosity by micro particles of CKD and reduction of air loss by PS. Those methods are very effective to solve the sinking problem of light weight foamed concrete, which has been highly concerned. For the hardened concrete, compressive strength of specimens exhibited that using around 10% of CKD or 0.02% of PS increased the strength value, but decreased when incorporated or added more amounts of that, due to reduction of the sinking depth, caused by filling effect of the micro particle and improvement of the viscosity.

  • Waste concrete powder was used to remove fluoride ions in highly concentrated fluoride wastewater. 92.6% of fluoride in 100 mg F/L wastewater was removed by 1% dose of the cement paste powder that represents characteristics of waste concrete powder, whereas the removal efficiencies of raw cement and lime were 47.3% and 96.4%, respectively. The cement paste powder was competitive to lime, common fluoride removal agent. Various Ca-bearing hydrates such as portlandite, calcium silicate hydrate, and ettringite in cement paste slurry can remove fluoride by precipitating $CaF_2$ and absorbing $F^-$ ions. In the experiments using both cement paste and lime, 50~67% of lime can be substituted by cement paste to satisfy fluoride effluent limitation of 15 mg/L. Since cement paste has higher acid neutralization capacity than lime, it can be recycled to neutralize more acid and to remove more fluoride. Therefore waste concrete powder can be more economical and viable alternative for lime in fluoride wastewater treatment.

  • This study tested 25 lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) mixtures using the expanded bottom ash and dredged soil granules to examine the compressive strength gain of such concrete with different ages. The test parameters investigated were water-to-cement ratios and the natural sand content for the replacement of lightweight fine aggregate. The compressive strength gain rate in the basic equation specified in fib model code was experimentally determined in each mixture and then empirically formulated as a function of the water-to-cement ratio and oven-dried density of concrete. When compared with 28-day compressive strength, the tested LWAC mixtures exhibited relatively low gain ratios (0.49~0.82) at an age of 3 days whereas the gain ratios (1.16~1.41) at 91 days were higher than that (1.05~1.15) of the conventional normal-weight concrete. Thus, the fib model equations tend to overestimate the early strength gain of LWAC but underestimate the long-term strength gain. The proposed equations are in good agreement with the measured compressive strength development of LWAC at different ages, indicating that the mean and standard deviation of the normalized root mean square errors determined in each mixture are 0.101 and 0.053, respectively.

  • Research for heat insulation of buildings is being carried out, in which a heat exchange barrier is used around the openings and balcony parts as a method for heat exchange blocks. However, the preparation for a fire is inadequate. In order to improve the EPS used as a heat exchange barrier in an attempt to solve this, there is a study on lightweight foamed concrete, but as the amount of EPS used for strengthening fire resistance increases, it becomes lower. There is no strength applied to buildings, and also. There is a limit to the amount of EPS used. In the study, we use oyster shells to secure the EPS replacement rate limit of lightweight Foamed concrete, and try to measure the change of physical properties depending on the unit cement content.
