An Application of Simulation Method to Planning of Road Pavement Operation (시뮬레이션을 이용한 도로포장 공정계획의 수립방안)

  • Project management means usually managing the rate of construction progress. But it also contains preparing scheme of execution and establishing plan for equipment, material, labor force to finish project within expected duration. In this paper to establish effective project planning a road pavement operation is selected as a case and simulation method is used for analyzing it. Next probability distributions are created after analyzing collected data and these are reflected in simulation model. Simulated result is compared with real project planning using models of lean concrete pavement process and concrete slab pavement process to verify efficiency of this model. In the event we know that project planning using simulation is more effective than one of the field in the aspects of duration and cost. Meanwhile simulated result in this paper has a limitation in accuracy because various constraints of filed are not reflected in it. However if we reflect this constraints in model through examining field in future this limitation is expected to be improved.

  • Rock masses in nature include various rock discontinuities such as faults, joints, bedding planes, fractures, cracks, schistosities, and cleavages. The behavior of rock structures, therefore, is mainly controlled by various rock discontinuities. In many tunnels, enormous cost and time are consumed to cope with the failing or sliding of rock blocks, which cannot be predicted because of the complexity of rock discontinuities. It is difficult to estimate the properties of rock masses before the rock excavation. The observational design and construction method of tunnels in rock masses is becoming important recently. In this paper, a new observational design and construction method for rock block evaluation of tunnels in discontinuous rock masses is proposed, and then applied to the tunnel based on actual rock discontinuity information observed in the field. It is possible to detect key blocks all along the tunnel exactly by using the numerical analysis program developed far the new observational design and construction method. This computer simulation method with user-friendly interfaces can calculate not only the stability of rock blocks but also the design of supplementary supports. The effectiveness of the proposed observational design and construction method has been verified by the confirmation of key block during the enlargement excavation.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF AIR POLLUTION RATE DEPENDING ON TYPES OF VENTILATION SYSTEM IN UNDERGROUND PARKING LOT (환기방식에 따른 지하주차장 공기오염도의 수치연구)

  • 지하 복수층 주차장은 도시의 밀집화 및 자동차의 급격한 증가로 인한 토지부족 및 주차난을 해소할 수 있는 좋은 방법이다. 하지만 인체유해 배출가스의 집중으로 환기의 중요성이 대두되는 추세에도 불구하고 실제로는 시공이 완료 된 후에나 오염도 측정이 가능하다. 이러한 이유로 CFD 시뮬레이션으로 시공이전의 지하 복수층 주차장의 공기오염도를 예측했다. CFD 시뮬레이션은 예산과 시간을 절감한 공기오염도 예측이 가능하다. 실제의 당산근린공원의 지하주차장을 대상으로 오염도를 예측했다. 급기에만 강제유동을 일으키는 2종과 배기에만 강제유동을 일으키는 3종 기계환기법, 그리고 급배기에 강제유동을 일으키는 1종기계환기법을 각각 적용하여 공기오염도를 계산했다. 지하1층과 지하2층의 입구 및 출구유속을 10, 15m/s로 하여 실내평균연령과 실내평균환기효율을 살펴보았다. 계산결과는 급기와 배기에 강제유동을 동시에 일으키는 1종 기계환기법의 값과 비교하였다.

  • Development and practical emerging construction technologies has been studied as one of key solution for overcoming these barriers. Many literatures indicated that effective performance evaluation methodologies are demanding for efficient applications of new technologies. This paper presents a performance evaluation methodology using construction simulation technique and introduces studies of two cases where the steel staircase system, as an new technologies was applied and where the conventional method of staircase concrete works. Productivity was measured and calculated by site observation and construction simulations. This results show the quantified influence of new technology to site personnels and assist them to make various decisions for using or not using the technology depending on their own situations.

  • Low carbon construction is an important operation management goal such as cost, time, and quality in construction community. This paper introduces a system which measures the variability of carbon dioxide amounts. First, this system allows creating construction operation models of which the level of detail is breakdown into the work task level. Second, the system implements sensitivity analysis along with a ranges of resources that are allocated in an operation model. It facilitates to find the optimal resource combination using the operation performances such as the amount of emissions, operation completion time, and cost. Lastly, it identifies the best fit probability distribution functions of performance criteria given a certain resource combination. It allows project manager to query the percentages to complete the operation within a limitation specified by the system users.

  • Construction project consists of several stages such as planning, design, construction, operation/maintain, etc. Decisions made in the planning and design stage have a significant impact on the construction and operation/maintain stages. Identifying key resources contributing to duration and cost of design alternatives is an important measure to achieve effective coordination between design and construction. This study proposes a method which finds an optimal design alternative by taking into account of resource planning, expected duration, and cost in construction stage. Base on literature review relative to the assessment of design alternatives, a method which predicts required resources, duration, and cost of the design alternative is established. Then, a method that identifies an optimal design alternative based on the preference of a certain project criteria is developed. Finally, a case study is presented.

  • Korea rapidly arranged urbanization and overpopulation with high growth of economy and all kinds of decrepit facilities are scattered all over the downtown. If there is a strong wind in fire, fire is rapidly increased by various fire spread factors. And Korea cannot build prediction model of urban fire combustion phenomena because there is no studies that physically explains the suitable flame phenomena for its real state.   • Construction industry has become higher, larger and more complicated. It has been analyzed that the process planning in the construction site has been made by the site engineer experience mostly and some were made based on historical data. However, such plans have been investigated that require numerous revisions during construction which means that the plans made through such methods are not reliable. Numerous studies in this field have been conducted trying to solve such problems developing methodologies to overcome such limitations. It has been analyzed that many studies have focused on suggesting prediction models only that cannot be used for both actual planning prior to construction and process monitoring during construction. Therefore, this study suggests a methodology that effectively manages construction productivity by applying simulation methodology combined with bayesian approach focusing on the high-rise curtain wall operations.

  • It is an important issue in cost management to contract with the standard of cost estimate by the reasonable way in public construction projects. For the standard of cost estimate based on the Standard Estimating System, there is a difference of labor inputs between Standard Estimating System and actual quantities in construction projects. The duration of form work in multi-family housing depends on the manpower compared with other work, which is the critical path on the schedule management to be decided quality, and is the important to the cost management of construction projects. This study presented a simulation model of the productivity analysis for selecting the standard work type of form work in Multi-family housing construction projects.

  • Unit module system produce units in the factory and assemble in the field. This unit module system has advantages of shortening the process of construction. However, it is still in the early research related to setting the unit module which is transported by truck to the field. Therefore, when transporting the unit module, this goal of study develops fixed devices. And suggesting device were performed that simulations analyzed maximum stress and assessed the safety.
