  • Global warming is accelerating as greenhouse gas emissions increase owing to the increase in population and urbanization rates worldwide. As an alternative to this solution, smart cities are being promoted. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a plan for developing energy service modules for the Sejong 5-1 living area, which has been selected as a test-bed for smart cities in Korea. Based on the smart city plans announced by the government for this study, a survey questionnaire on 12 energy services was composed by collecting the opinions of experts. The survey was conducted with 1,000 citizens, the degree of necessity of energy service that citizens think of was identified. Principal Component Analysis and Association Rule Mining were conducted to describe 12 energy service items in a reduced manner and analyze the correlation and relationship of each energy service. Finally, three modules were suggested using the analyzed results so that 12 energy services could be implemented in an efficient platform. These results are expected to contribute to the realization of a smart city to make them easily accessible for those who want to promote platform services in the energy field and envision energy service items.

  • Because the 'Internet of Things' and sensor network technology have become a new generation industry competitiveness with a development of Information Communication Technology, each local autonomous entity is trying to adopt a Smart City quickly. This requires an integrated platform inside of a smart city operation center. Established Smart City platform provides various services using CCTV information and ITS transportation information based on a two-dimensional map. The provision of advanced Smart City services will necessitate three-dimensional map information, building and facilities unit information, linked information with public data portal for service to the public. In this paper, the authors reviewed development trends of Smart City integrated platform and proposed mashup methods between BIM/GIS interoperability platform and external open data. BIM/GIS platform can provide spatial information services for indoor and outdoor seamlessly because it was developed based on GIS spatial data with BIM data. The linked external open data are V-World data, Seoul Open Data, and Architectural Data Open. Finally, the authors proposed the direction of development for BIM/GIS integrated platform to provide advanced Smart City services.

  • This study, estimates the predicted no effect concentration (PNEC) for the protection of organisms in aquatic and soil environments, considering the mode of action of Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). PNECs were derived using the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) approach to estimate the hazardous concentration for 5% of species (HC5), with applying assessment factors. Chronic toxicity data on PFOS were collected through the USEPA's ECOTOX database and literature reviews, and classified by toxicity endpoints. PNECs were then derived for each of seven toxicity endpoints that met the criteria for SSD fitting. For aquatic organisms, the PNEC for PFOS, based on all available chronic toxicity data, was determined to be 0.53 ㎍/L. The PNECs for development, genetics, enzymes, growth, reproduction, population, and biochemical biomarkers were 0.28, 0.43, 0.83, 0.90, 2.17, 111.17, and 3.53 ㎍/L, respectively. The lowest PNEC was observed when the toxic endpoint was set as development, which is considered to be due to the mode of action of PFOS, known to cause developmental toxicity by disrupting the endocrine system of organisms. For soil organisms, toxicity data were insufficient to estimate PNECs for individual endpoints, so all available data were used to estimate a PNEC of 0.75 mg/kg. Estimating PNECs that consider the mode of action of contaminants is expected to reduce the likelihood of underestimating protection levels for environmental contaminants. Additionally, this study highlights the need for ecotoxicological assessments for individual toxicity endpoints of emerging contaminants, including Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, in soil environments.

  • This study focuses on that, unlike evolving smart technology, goals, policies, and administrative organization elements are tools that do not change in smart city implementation, and by applying the concept of policy implemental means, the characteristics of the Singapore Smart Nation Initiative are analyzed, results are derived and implications are suggested. To this end, literature analysis is conducted based on the case analysis framework with "Smart Nation" as an analysis unit and "project, administration, citizen engagement" as analysis elements. The implications through analysis are as follows. First, it is required to establish a state-led initiative for a major transformation into a digital society. Second, it is necessary to establish executive agencies directly under the president or prime minister for effective implementation of the initiative. Third, complementary programs at the level of detailed strategies, administrative organizations, and citizen participation as a means of implementation, should be considered and the flow of the recent digital ecosystem should be reflected. Fourth, it is necessary to promote a national movement for a great transformation into a digital society where all the people participate.

  • This study used Bacillus licheniformis generating glycocalyx as a provective membrane to enhance the salt-damage resistance of cement mortars. The mortar specimens with Bacillus licheniformis exhibited a comparable compressive strength development and 1.1~1.3 times higher dynamic modulus of elasticity under 300 freezing and thawing cycyles when compared with the counterpart control mortar.
