We believe new assessment strategies and practices need to be developed that will enable teachers and others to assess students' performance in a manner that reflect the 7th Korean curriculum reform vision for school mathematics. This research was conducted to develop the assessment tasks based on the current literatures such as National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (1999) and Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation(KICE, 2002, 2003) in quadratic functions of the secondary school and to find the effect of these tasks by classifying students' responses. The research instrument were composed of three criteria, the previous knowledge, the application of quadratic functions, and the general properties in functions. The research data were collected from 32 high school students in a suburb of Seoul and sorted by their similarities and differences in mathematical understanding. Through the research, we could know more than ever before about how the students learned mathematics and about how to improve teachers' mathematical instruction.
In this paper, we study the effect of writing activity as mathematical communication on the students's mathematics achievement, learning attitude, and mathematical tendency. For this purpose, we construct a experimental class and then analyze the students' change in those aspects after applying three-divided-note writing activity and colleague feedback on their works those students are in the experimental class. As a result of the experiment, we find that three-divided-note writing activity and colleague feedback made some significant changes on the students achievement in mathematics, learning attitude, but does not affect on mathematical tendency. We also offer some suggestions for further research. Firstly, the mathematical communication ability must be stressed in mathematics education. For this purpose, we need to develop the teaching and the evaluation method to use not only writing but also reading, speaking, and listening skills so that many teachers can apply this method easily to their classes. Second, we need to fix some realistic problems such as fair evaluation , the numbers of students per class, the numbers of lesson, and too much extra-work, and so on. Thirdly, we suggest to explore some methods for extending three- divided-note writing activity to evaluate mathematical essay and to study educational effects of colleague feedback on mathematics performance assessment.
In this study, the goal is to spread profound knowledge and theory through providing with accumulated methods in mathematics education to the students who are relatively neglected in educational benefits. The process is divided into 3 categories: mathematics for obtaining common sense and intelligence, practical math for application, and math as a liberal art to elevate their characters. Furthermore, it includes the reasons for studying math, improving problem-solving skills, machinery application learning, introduction to code(cipher) theory and game theory, utilizing GSP to geometry learning, and mathematical relations to sports and art. Based on these materials, the next step(goal) is to train graduate students to conduct researches in teaching according to the teaching plan, as well as developing interesting and effective teaching plan for the remote high school learners.

The study aims the introducing the items for the assessment of mathematical thinking including mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and communication and the analyzing on the responses of the 5th grade pupils. We categorized the area of mathematical reasoning into deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and analogy; problem solving into external problem solving and internal one; and communication into speaking, reading, writing, and listening. And we proposed the examples of our items for each area and the 5th grade pupils' responses. When we assess on pupil's mathematical reasoning, we need to develop very appropriate items needing the very ability of each kind of mathematical reasoning. When pupils solve items requesting communication, the impact of the form of each communication seem to be smaller than that of the mathematical situation or sturucture of the item. We suggested that we need to continue the studies on mathematical assessment and on the constitution and utilization of cognitive areas, and we also need to in-service teacher education on the development of mathematical assessments, based on this study.
We have web-based online discussion to implement active interaction and a variety of communicative activities. I have gathered the following research questions to study about the meaning of web-based online discussion as a mathematical communication teaching method. First, what changes are there in students mathematical communication ability in web-based online discussion\ulcorner Second, how do students evaluate the web-based online discussion experience\ulcorner In this web-based online discussion, groups of middle school first grade 34 students and each group had chatting at 8 times for 10 weeks. I analyzed what they had discussed by the prints that they had sent me by e-mail. I also surveyed what they had experienced and analyzed them. In this research, the online web based discussion has given positive influence on students' competence of speaking, writing, reading and listening which are crucial to mathematical communication. Students' mathematic thinking power improved and attitudes to mathematics have become more positive.

This study was proposed to analyze mathematical communication activity and mathematical attitudes while students were solving project problem and to consider how the conclusions effects mathematics education. This study analyzed through qualitative research method. The questions for this study are following. First, how does the process of the mathematical communication activity proceed during solving project problem in a small group? Second, what reactions can be shown on mathematical attitudes during solving project problem in a small group? Four project problems sampled from pilot study in order to examine these questions were applied on two small groups consisting of four 5th grade students It was recorded while each group was finding out the solution of the given problems. Afterward, consequences were analyzed according to each question after all contents were noted. Consequently, conclusions can be derived as follows. First, it was shown that each student used different elements of contents in mathematical communication activity. Second, during mathematical communication activity, most students preferred common languages to mathematical ones. Third, it was found that each student has their own mathematical attitude. Fourth, Students were more interested in the game project problem and the practical using project problem than others.
Since most people experience mathematics anxiety(MA), the research on mathematics anxiety has been the main theme in the research of mathematics education. The study of brain science related to MA has recently been begun due to the advent of apparatuses so this study might have revisited MA as time passed and aimed to obtain realistic implications for the future study. For this purpose, we analyzed previous studies how to measure MA and how to develop the intervention to reduce MA. As the result, the researchers based on brain science studied the relevance of specific parts of the brain according to the degree of MA using only simple computational tasks. The research for developing the MA scale has upgraded how to measure both the cognitive and affective domains with more efficient ways. The research on intervention for MA has developed the programs using systematic desensitization, clinical counseling, STAD teaching method, writing methods, etc. However, we realized that more specified and reliable studies to solve the MA must be done in the future.
It has been a long time introduced portfolios as a new alternative assessment in the elementary school to make the wrong aspect of assessment into right aspect one in the traditional assessment. But many teachers seem to have not enough understanding of portfolios. Taking into account of this point of view, the purpose of this paper is to search what kind of suggestive points to give us and what is the fundamental difference with the portfolios we have already known by making an observation of consist of portfolios and cases carried out in new zealand elementary school.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of cookbook making activities on young children's mathematical concept and writing development. The participants were comprised of 50 five-year-old children from two intact classes from a kindergarten in Gyeonggi province, and they were divided into an experimental and a comparison group. The experimental group participated in cooking activities and produced cookbooks as extension activities whereas the comparison group carried out only cooking activities. The results indicated that the children in the experimental group received statistically higher scores in mathematical concept- and writing-tests, suggesting that cookbook making activities are a useful educational tool for enhancing young children's mathematical concepts and facilitating their writing development.
The lambda calculus is a mathematical formalism in which functions can be formed, combined and used for computation that is defined as rewriting rules. With the development of the computer science, many programming languages have been based on the lambda calculus (LISP, CAML, MIRANDA) which provides simple and clear views of computation. Furthermore, thanks to the "Curry-Howard correspondence", it is possible to establish correspondence between proofs and computer programming. The purpose of this article is to make available, for didactic purposes, a subject matter that is not well-known to the general public. The impact of the lambda calculus in logic and computer science still remains as an area of further investigation.stigation.
