Micro-piles have been used to increase the bearing capacity or to restrain settlement of existing shallow foundation. Recently, micro-piles are used to support the shallow foundation, to stabilize the slope and to resist the sliding of retaining wall. Using the micro-piles in geotechnical engineering, some investigators have studied the effective installing method by model test or field test. But most of previous studies are chiefly focused on the micro-piles in sand or clay layer. If a rock layer exists in soil, the installing length of micro-piles may be determined by the depth of rock layer. In this case, the stiffness of pile may be changed by the installing length of pile, and so the installing method has to be altered by the changed stiffness of pile. Model tests have been conducted to study the installation method of micro-pile in soil with rock layer. As a result, when the ratio of length of pile is below 50 ($L/d{\leq}50$), installing of micro-piles in vertical position is effective regardless of the depth of rock layer. If the depth of rock layer is deeper than soil failure zone and the ratio of the length of pile exceeds 50 (L/d>50), installing of the micro-piles in sloped position is effective.
In this study, ultimate lateral load capacity of piles is analyzed with consideration of lateral stress effect. Based on results obtained in this study, a method for the estimation of ultimate lateral load capacity is proposed. This makes it possible to more realistically estimate the ultimate lateral load capacity under various stress states caused by in-situ soil condition and pile installation process. Calibration chamber test results with various soil conditions were used in the analysis. From the test results, it was found that effect of the lateral stress was greater than that of the vertical stress on the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles. It was also found that, as the relative density increases, displacements required to reach the ultimate state increases, showing relative displacements of around 14% and 18-25% for $D_R$ : 55% and 86%, respectively. Based on results obtained in this study, a methodology for the estimation of ultimate lateral load capacity of piles using correction factors was proposed. Results from proposed method matched well measured results.

This study is concerned with the characteristics of the behavior of drilled shafts with steel casing, a material that is used for large bridge foundations in Korea, and especially for weak submerged ground conditions. The effect of steel casing on bearing capacity of drilled shafts was also verified in this study. Three large drilled shafts with 1.8, 2.4, 3.0m diameter respectively were selected, and 3-D finite element analysis has been undertaken on the following three models: 1) drilled shafts without steel casing, 2) drilled shafts with steel casing, 3) steel-concrete composite drilled shafts. Interface element between concrete core and steel casing was taken into account, and ground conditions and load combinations were applied which had been considered in the fields. Detailed characteristics of the stress and displacement distributions were evaluated to understand the characteristics of the behavior of the drilled shafts. Based on the study performed, the steel casing used as load-carrying materials in the drilled shafts can reduce the horizontal and vertical displacement of drilled shafts by 32~37% and 15~19% respectively compared with drilled shafts without steel casing.
Purpose: To design applied anamorphic lens that focal length ratio is 3:1 optical system to improve detecting distance. Methods: We defined a boundary condition as $50^{\circ}{\sim}60^{\circ}$ for viewing angle, horizontal direction 36mm, vertical direction 12 mm for focal length, f-number 4, $15{\mu}m{\times}15{\mu}m$ for pixel size and limit resolution 25% in 33l p/mm. Si, ZnS and ZnSe as a materials were used and 4.8 ${\mu}m$, 4.2 ${\mu}m$, 3.7 ${\mu}m$ as a wavelength were set. optical performance with detection distance, narcissus and athermalization in designed camera were analyzed. Results: F-number 4, y direction 12 mm and x direction 36 mm for focal length of the thermal optical system were satisfied. Total length of the system was 76 mm so that an overall volume of the system was reduced. Astigmatism and spherical aberration was within ${\pm}$0.10 which was less than 2 pixel size. Distortion was within 10% so there was no matter to use as a thermal optical camera. MTF performance for the system was over 25% from 33l p/mm to full field so it was satisfied with the boundary condition. Designed optical system was able to detect up to 2.9 km and reduce a diffused image by decreasing a narcissus value from all surfaces except the 4th surface. From sensitivity analysis, MTF resolution was increased on changing temperature with the 5th lens which was assumed as compensation. Conclusions: Designed optical system which used anamorphic lens was satisfied with boundary condition. an increasing resolution with temperature, longer detecting distance and decreasing of narcissus were verified.
Even though rarely recognized as a separate approach, the institutional approach in geography is defined as an attempt to seek an explanation of the phenomena of geographical interest through focusing on the effects of institutional structure and actions. It can provide interdisciplinary links with other works and can offer complementary explanations for geographical interests. The concerns for institutions in geography can be found in early studies, the study of the state, the managerial approach, and the regulation approach. The Korean financial systems can provide good examples to apply institutional concepts into creating spatial outcomes, as it has been regarded as a useful tool to promote Korean economic development. Behind the current spatial pattern of financial systems, four different stages of institutional changes are identified in Korea. Each stage has different institutional features reflecting unique spatial implication.
I conducted empirical analyses of what happens when an offline channel expands to an online channel and whether the pre-existing offline channel's competitive assets (e.g. brand reputation and level of service satisfaction) can be linked to online channel preference. I found that an offline channel's brand reputation and level of service satisfaction can have a direct influence on offline channel preference and a second-hand influence on online channel preference. Thus, if the competitiveness of the online channel is strong enough and its customers have a higher preference for the offline channel, they will be committed and loyal to the company. The resultant enhanced competitiveness of the offline channel will present opportunities for both present and future success. The main results are the following. First, the management of the distribution channel service quality is more important than that of the brand reputation. Customers' experiences of service and subjective evaluations are not important only as the leading factors in the long-term brand reputation management but also as influential factors in channel preference. SoThus, given that the service quality of the pre-existing channel is not the customers' main concern, a strategy of improving the level of service satisfaction aimed at present customers is more valuable than a wide brand positioning strategy aimed at general and new customers. Second, when an offline channel company establishes an internet shopping mall on an online channel, it is highly likely that the preference and subjective evaluation of the present customers will influence the online channel. This applies not only to the special case of an expansion from an offline intermediary channel to an online one, but also to an online channel acting as an expansion of the business model of a conventional manufacturing or service company: both cases are vertical integrations of marketing channels in an expansion of the distribution channel. My theory applies to a wide range of contexts. Third and finally, any business strategy can grasp the meaning of 'channel expansion. Fundamentally, it is an expansion of the sales activity channel and marketing activity. However, it is also a way of enhancing marketing and sales competitiveness through an expansion to an online or offline channel. The expansion of an offline company to an online channel could be seen not as improvement but as an innovation of the business process by which two goals are achieved with one technique. The former is expected to increase the sales of the offline company, and the latter is also expected to increase sales while also contributing to cost reduction.
This study was designed to analysis the displacement and stress distribution of individual tooth by orthodontic force during distal on masse movement of the maxillary dentition. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis was used. Author made the finite element model of maxillary teeth, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and bracket with anatomic and physiologic characteristics on computer. Author analysed and evaluated the displacement and stress distribution of individual tooth when extraoral force, Class II intermaxillary elastics, ideal arch wire, MEAW and tip back bend were used for distal on masse movement of the maxillary dentition. These analyses were also applied in the case of the maxillary second molar were not extracted. Author compared the results of the cases which maxillary second molar were extracted or not. The results were expressed quantitatively and visually. Author obtained following results, 1. When anterior headgear was applied, the posterior translation, posterior tipping, and vertical displacement of teeth were produced more in the anterior segment of the dentition. 2. When Class II intermaxillary elastics were applied in the ideal arch wire, the teeth displacement were usually produced in the anterior segment. But when tip back bend were added in the ideal arch wire, the orthodontic force produced by elastics were transmitted to the posterior segment. As increasing the tip back bend, posterior translation and lingual tipping of anterior teeth were decreased, posterior translation and tipping displacement of posterior teeth were increased, and extrusion of anterior teeth by Class II elastics were decreased 3. When MDAW and Class II elastics were applied, the teeth movement were sir flu with the case of ideal arch wire and Class II elastics, but more small and uniform teeth displacement were produced Compared with the ideal arch wire, posterior tipping of the posterior segment were more produced than lingual tipping displacement of the anterior segment. 4. When the maxillary second molar without orthodontic appliance existed, the displacement of maxillary first molar were decreased.
To understand the impact of typhoons on Gamji gravel beach Taejongdae in Busan, we carried out beach profiling using a VRS-GPS system and a Drone photogrammetry for the typhoons 'Kong-rey' invaded in October 2018 and 'Danas' in July 2019. In addition, grain sizes are analyzed to investigate the overall distribution pattern of gravels on the beach, and the beach topography is surveyed periodically to confirm the recovery rate of the beach. Grain-size analysis reveals that mean gravel sizes, in general, become finer from -6.2Φ to -5.4Φ towards the east in the seashore line direction. Variation in mean sizes is obviously observed in the cross-shore direction. Gravels in the swash zone are relatively fine about -4.5Φ in size and equant in shape, whereas the coarse and oblate gravels ranged from -5Φ to -6Φ are found in the berm. Gamji gravel beach particularly has two lines of berms: a lower berm situated facing beach and an upper berm about 10 m landward. After the typhoon Kong-rey passed by, about 1.4 m of severe erosion in upper berm occurred, and the berm eventually disappeared. On the backshore of the upper berm about 50 cm of erosion took place so that the elevation became lower. However, tangible erosion was not observed in the lower berm. When typhoon Danas hit, rated as mild storm, both upper and lower berm were eroded out. However, about 50 cm of deposition occurred only in the backshore. Only three days later, the new lower berm was formed, meaning that sedimentation rate must be high. This result indicates that Gamji gravel beach is recovered very fast from erosion caused by the typhoons when it is under the fair-weather condition even though beach morphology changes dramatically in a short period of time. Gravel beach is estimated to be or evaluated very resilient to typhoon erosion.
Purpose: Conventional transtibial approach for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction tended to place the femoral tunnel in too vertical position (11 or 1 o'clock), which could provide the postoperative anteroposterior (AP) stability but not provided the rotational stability. Therefore we present a surgical technique to make the transtibial femoral tunnel at 10 or 2 o'clock position. Surgical approach: To make a transtibial femoral tunnel at the 10 or 2 o'clock position, the direction and position of the tibial drill guide was important. We set the tibial drill guide at $40{\sim}45$ degrees and the intraarticular guide tip was 1 mm anterior and medial to the conventional site. The starting point for the guide pin on the proximal tibia was proximal to the pes anserinus and anterior to the medial collateral ligament. The tibial tunnel was initially drilled 1mm less than the diameter of the graft. Then femoral offset guide could be easily placed at 10 or 2 o'clock position through the tibial tunnel. The tibial tunnel and the femoral tunnel of 30 mm in length were made with the reamer that was same size with the graft. Conclusion: We report a surgical technique to create a transtibial femoral tunnel at 10 or 2 o'clock position in ACL reconstruction to provide the rotational stability as well as the AP stability.
In order to express exactly the total resistance of bottom trawl nets subjected simultaneously to the water flow and the bottom friction, the influence of frictional force was added to the formular for the flow resistance of trawl nets obtained by previous papev and the experimental data obtained by other investigators were analyzed by the formula. The analyzation produced the total resistance R (kg) expressed as $$R=4.5(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}S\;v^{-1.8}+20(Bv)^{1.1}$$ where $S(m^2)$ was the wall area of nets, $S_m\;(m^2)$ the cross-sectional area of net mouths, $S_n\;(m^2)$ the area of nets projected to the plane perpendicular to the water flow, B (m) the made-up circumference at the fore edge of bag parts, and v(m/sec) the dragging velocity. From the viewpoint that expressing R in the form of $R=kSv^2$ was a usual practice, however, the resistant coefficient $k(kg{\cdot}sec^2/m^4)$ was compared with the factors influencing it by reusing the experimental data. The comparison gave that the coefficient k might be expressed approximately as a function of BL only and so the resistance R (kg) as $$R=18{\alpha}B^{0.5}L\;v^{1.5}$$ where L (m) was the made-up total length of nets and $\alpha=S/BL$. But the values of a in the nets did not deviate largely from their mean, 0.48, for all the nets and so the general expression of R (kg) for all the bottom trawl nets could be written as $$R=9\;B^{0.5}\;L\;v^{1.5}$$.
