Experimental Study on the Effects of Water Jetting on a Flapped Rudder (플랩이 부착된 타에 미치는 물 제트 분사효과에 관한 실험적인 연구)

  • In the development of high speed marine vehicle, lilting devices became important in sharing the pay load or controlling the attitude. The devices are also important to meet the IMO regulation to prevent the marine pollution by keeping the high rudder force for VLCC even in low speed operation. The high lift devices such as the Coanda device have been introduced to the aircraft as a common practice for a long time among the aero-engineers. If the Coanda device can be utilized to the flapped rudder, the severe requirement of rudder force could be provided for the VLCC in low speed operation. The performance of the rudder system has been investigated at the towing tank of Seoul National University.

삼척시 도계읍 지역에 분포하는 풍촌층 석회석의 부존 특성

  • 삼척-도계지역 일대에 분포하는 조선누층군의 풍촌층 석회석은 품위 및 암상에따라 상부고품위대와 하부석회암대로 분대가 가능한데, 이는 삼척-태백간을 북북동으로 흐르는 오십천을 경계로 서쪽에 분포하는 풍촌층과 비교할 때 다소간의 암상차이를 보인다. 즉, 풍촌층의 특징중에 하나인 중부백운암대가 본 역 일대에서는 백운암화가 미약하여 비교적 소폭으로 확인되며, 상부백색대 역시, 발달정도가 미약한 특징을 보인다. 시추탐사결과 확인된 삼척-도계지역의 풍촌층 상부고품위대는 일반적으로 상부백색대$(\pm15m)$ - 백운암대$(\pm5m)$ - 암회색대$(\pm50m)$로 구분되는 것으로 나타났다. 각각의 품위는 상부백색대 : CaO $53_4\~55.6\%$, 백운암대 : MgO $3.0\~18.4\%$, 암회색대 : CaO $50.4\~54.2\%$로 나타나 제철용으로의 사용이 가능하나 백운암대에 대한 선별채광이 부분적으로 요망된다. 이들 석회석은 오십천대단층의 수반단층인 수조의 NNE계열 정단층들에 의해 빈번히 단절되어 있으며 일부지역에서는 EW향의 역단층에 의해 규제되기도 한다. 상기 제단층들은 석회암층을 단절시킬 뿐만 아니라 단층각력, 단층점토, 암맥 등의 불순대를 수반하므로 개발에 장애요소가 되고 있다. 상부고품위대 부존표고는 지역에 따라 다소 차이가 있으나 200ML 내외에서 대부분 확인이 가능하며 지표노출 규모는 작은 편이나 $10^{\circ}$이하의 완경사로 화절층 하부에 부존되어 있어 갱도 채광에 적합한 형태를 이루고 있다.

Performance Test of Pod-type Waterjet Propulsion System (Pod형 물분사 추진장치 성능시험 연구)

  • This paper describes the experimental method of a pod-type waterjet propulsion system in a towing tank and shows the experimental analysis and test results of a designed waterjet propulsion system to be used for a hybrid high speed craft. The cruising performance of this craft is estimated from the results of the hull resistance test and waterjet test under the assumption that the interaction between the hull and the inlet pod is very small. A pod-type waterjet system with an axial pump was designed and a stand-alone waterjet experimental system was developed. Useful data such as the pump performance, the jet efficiency, the losses of inlet duct and nozzle were obtained. Test results show a good agreement with the design requirement.

A Hydraulic Model Test of Wave Transformation in the Surf Zone (쇄파대에서의 파랑 변형에 대한 수리모형실험)

  • Sixty seven regular wave tests were performed in a wave-current flume to investigate proper-ties of waves breaking on irregular slope profiles. In these tests, 1/10, 1/20 beach slopes were made using angles and plywoods. A little differences were found in such properties as breaker depth and height indices. runup for plane slopes comparing with other laboratory experiments. however. for smaller deepwater wave steepness, measured breaker height and depth data values were smaller than other formulas. On wave runup agreement was good between experiments and Hunt formula. however. measured data values were influenced by number of breaking. Significant differences were found in breaker depth index for plane and barred slopes. Wave height decay after breaking was found to be smaller than Dally et al.'s formula (1984).

Analysis for the Propulsion with Peristaltic Motion (Peristaltic 운동을 이용한 추진에 대한 연구)

  • Flow mechanism of peristaltic motion is numerically and experimentally investigated to obtain a propulsive force in highly viscous fluid. Computing code for the analysis of the motions is developed with cell-centered unstructured grid scheme. The computed results by the developed code is compared with the experimental results which have been carried out to find out the propulsion mechanism in highly viscous fluid. The computed results shows good correlation with the experimental results and further the propulsive force can be obtained by sinusoidal motion which makes a pressure difference on waving surface. The more computation with variation of Reynolds number and parameters of motion is expected for finding a proper working range.

Measurement of Velocity Field Around Hydrofoil of Finite Span with Shallow Submergence (몰수 심도가 작은 고속 수중익 주위의 속도장 측정)

  • A set of experiments was carried out for obtaining the velocity field around the hydrofoil of finite span, using a wing of the NACA 0012 section in a circulating water channel. DPIV technique was used to measure the velocity field, and the velocity measurements along the span were done for 3 speeds, 3 submerged depths, and 4 angles of attack. Experimental data are compared with the theoretical assumptions, as well as the numerical findings by Lee and Lee(2004). Special care is given to the flow near the tips and in the region close to the leading edge. Though indirect, using the measured data of the velocity, it is now possible to compare the aerodynamic and the hydrodynamic strength of the circulation distribution of a wing in the framework of the lifting-line theory.

The Effect of Warmer Water Temperature of Walleye Pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) Larvae (명태 초기 생활사에 고수온이 미치는 영향)

  • We examined the effect of warm temperature on the survival of larvae of walleye pollock and on their swimming behavior during the four days of post-hatch. Observations were conducted on larvae in Petri dishes and in 85 cm tall, cylindrical tanks that had a warmer upper layer and cooler lower layer separated by a small thermocline. Mortality was carried out in four temperature ranges from $3.1^{\circ}C$ to $9.7^{\circ}C$. The number of days to 50 % mortality ($D_{50}$) was longest (18.7 days) at $3.1^{\circ}C$ and decreased with increasing temperature to 10.3 days at $9.7^{\circ}C$. And $D_{50}$ were similar level to that at temperature 3.1 and $5.1^{\circ}C$(17.9 days). Larval responses to warmer temperatures varied depending on developmental stages. 2dph larvae changed the distribution to the thermocline of the water column. And, 3dph larvae had a ability for escaping from the unfavourable warmer temperature. These results suggest that the warmer water negatively affects the larval survival.

Computational Fluid Analysis for Otter Boards ( 1 ) - Pattern of Fluid Flow Besides Otter Board - (전개판에 대한 수치해석 ( 1 ) - 전개판 주위에서의 유체흐름의 패턴 -)

  • The authors carried out a visiualizational model test by the hydrogen bubble method to examine the pattern of the fluid flow besides the simple camber type and plane type otter board in circulation water channel. The experimental conditions are velocity of flow 0.05 and 0.1m/sec, angle of attack 0$^{\circ}$~45$^{\circ}$(5$^{\circ}$step). The results obtained are as follows: 1. In the case of the simple camber type otter board located angle of attack 25$^{\circ}$, vortex at the leading edge was geneated at 1/2 of chord length. 2. Size of the vortex generated in the trailing edge was about 2~3 times larger then that of the leading edge. 3. In the case of the simple camber type otter board located angle of attack 30$^{\circ}$, separation of stream-line at leading edge was generated at 1/3 of chord length. 4. Nearest stream-line in the back side of the simple camber type otter board was bent in the direction of otter board when the angle of attack was 25$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$, and in the case of plane type otter board was expanded outside of the flow direction. 6. Area separated of the simple camber type otter board at the angle of attack 30$^{\circ}$ was smaller then that of plane type otter board. 7. Flow speed in the back side of the simple camber type otter board was about 1.4 times faster then that in the front side, and in the case of the plane otter board about 1.2 times faster.

A Laboratory Study on Erosional Properties of Fine Cohesive Sediments from Saemankeum Artificial Lake (새만금 인공호 점착성 퇴적물의 침식특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to quantitatively estimate the erosional properties for cohesive sediment from Saemankeum artificial lake. A series of erosion tests were conducted with Chonbuk annular flume, which is the first one constructed in this country and verified with validities. Each erosion tests were conducted under a uniform bed condition but a different bed density respectively, and its critical shear stress for erosion(${\tau}_{ce}$) as well as the erosion rate coefficient (${\varepsilon}_M$) were determined quantitatively. Since the erosional properties of the cohesive sediments vary largely depending in the physico-chemical properties, such properties of Saemankeum sediments were also estimated and their effects on the erosional properties were analyzed. For Saemankeum sediments, it can be seen that ${\tau}_{ce}$ increases from $0.26N/m^2$ to $0.52N/m^2$ and ${\varepsilon}_M$ decreases exponentially from $14.28mg/cm^2\;hr$ to $6.02mg/cm^2\;hr$, as the bed density varies from $1.17g/cm^3$ to $1.34g/cm^3$. The erosional parameters of Saemankeum sediments are found to be remarkably different in quantity as compared with those for cohesive sediments from other sites. Particularly, ${\tau}_{ce}$ for Saemankeum sediments is known to be larger than that of Kunsan sediments but similar with that of Shihwa sediments, while ${\varepsilon}_M$ for Saemankeum sediments is shown to be smaller than that for Kunsan sediments.
