Teaching and Learning Geography for Fostering Media Literacy (미디어 리터러시 함양을 위한 지리교육)

  • This paper focuses on media literacy as a trial for reestablishing the relationship between media and geography education. So far, a geographical phenomenon represented through media has been treated as a transparent window on the world, but now needs to be recognized as a product of representation constructed socially by a range of subjects and their purposes. The epistemological turn of media has brought interest on social construction and media literacy in terms of teaching and learning. It is required that teaching and learning geography through media should be turned from the existing massmedia in education(or the education using media) to the education for fostering an active media literacy to analyze and reason critically how the media as text is constructed and selected. This geography education as media literacy is very important because it enables students to reveal the ideology and power relation embedded in the media as text, as well as to stimulate and enrich their geography imagination through an active work.

  • Knowledge contents acquisition has received very little attention in the study of knowledge management, unlike knowledge sharing and utilization. For an organization to generate and preserve a competitive advantage, it is vital that its knowledge contents be acquired. This study analyzes, by quantitative approach of surveys, the degree of activities of knowledge contents acquisition for the employees of a local government organization. The results show that the employees of a local government are not aggressively involved in knowledge contents acquisition activities. Lessons and implications of this study for management leadership are presented.

Social Bookmarking Use in University Courses: Student Perceptions and Behaviors (대학 수업에서 소셜 북마킹의 활용: 학생 인식 및 행태를 중심으로)

  • This exploratory study describes the social bookmarking perceptions and behaviors of students in university courses. Although an emerging discussion regarding the value of social bookmarking tools exists, how users adopt tools in practice is not well known. Students were asked to utilize the bookmarking tool del.icio.us to store information relating to course projects. They were also asked to comment how they employed del.icio.us for course projects. The study analyzed student perceptions and behaviors when using social bookmarking tools for university coursework. The study noted that the use of tags, notes, and networking within these social bookmarking tools remained less active and social bookmarking services in Web 2.0 as shared collaboration, shared communities, and vertical search were less present. Utilizing social bookmarking tools to facilitate personal information management includes the activities of information use, information re-use, and mobility.

기술지도사례-과학기술 이식으로 소득배가

  • 새마을기술봉사단 청주도단은 올 1~3월중에 1과학자 1마을 기술결연계획에 따라 읍ㆍ면 단위로 17개마을에 대한 과학 기술결연을 끝냄으로서 영농의 과학화와 농가소득증대에 새로운 장을 마련했다. 제주도 농어촌의 가구당 평균소득은 대부분 1백만원을 상회하고 자립마을의 경우는 1백90여만원을 넘는 전국최상위의 고소득마을도 많이 있다. 그러나 소득의 고저를 막론하고 영농방식은 고질적인 과거의 경험만으로 이루어지고 있어 영농의 과학화가 시급한 당면과제로 부각되고 있다. 스스로도 미쳐 깨닫지 못하는 경영방식의 오류와 숱한 시술상의 난문제들을 발견하고도 이를 합리적으로 해결하려들기 보다는 불가항력으로 돌려버리거나 체념해버리는 경우가 허다한 것이다. 제주도단은 이같은 문제점을 보다 신속히 해결하고 과학기술이식의 중요성 및 새마을기술봉사단의 신뢰도를 제고시키기 위해 마을의 요청에 만 응하는 소극적이고 수동적인 자세를 탈피하여 보다 적극적으로 봉사단을 활성화시키는데 전력을 경주하고 있다. 기술결연시에는 단장, 부단장, 결연교수와 행정요원, 지방유지들이 모두 참석한 가운데 결연식을 같는 한편 기술강연 및 홍보영화(새마을과 과학기술, 히말라야의 도전등)를 상영, 새마을기술봉사단의 활동분야 소개와 과학기술의 중요성을 인식시켰다. 「그들(농어민)속에 우리(봉사단) 」가 되기 위해 봉사단원들은 결연마을나 새마을 현지를 직접 찾아가 기술애로사항을 해결하는데 헌신 노력한 결과 부락민들과의 유대강화는 물론 소득면에서 많은 성과를 거양했다. 많은 지도사례중에서 특히 성과가 있었던 몇가지 사례를 골라 게재해 보기로 한다.

Carbon Literacy on Education in Connection with SDGs of the Pre-service Earth Science Teachers (SDGs 연계 교육에서 예비 지구과학 교사들의 탄소 소양)

  • This study is a basic research to apply ESD linked to SDGs to pre-service teachers majoring in earth science education. The purpose of this study is to evaluate carbon literacy by analyzing the awareness, attitude and knowledge, subjective norms, and behavioral control of the carbon footprint internalized by pre-service teachers. Pre-service teachers recognize the carbon footprint as their responsibility, but are not willing to pay the cost and accept inconveniences of the actions to reduce carbon footprint. They also support actions to reduce carbon footprint, but do not demand the actions from others. While they have sufficient knowledge about carbon mitigation actions, their conception of causes and effects of global warming is unstable. Pre-service teachers will go out to school sites and teach millions of students about global warming. It is essential to educate these teachers on the economic cost and social responsibility of reducing their carbon footprints. It is also important to find ways to bridge the gap between their thought and action. It is hoped that this study on pre-service teachers' carbon literacy will lead to realizing ESD.

A Comparison of Pre-Service Teachers' and Students' Understanding of the Concept of Parameters as Means of Generalization (일반화 수단으로서 매개변수의 인식과 오류에 대한 연구 -중학교 2학년 학생들과 예비교사들의 인식과 오류를 중심으로-)

  • From the early stages of learning algebra, literal symbols are used to represent algebraic objects such as variables and parameters. The concept of parameters contains both indeterminacy and fixity resulting in confusion and errors in understanding. The purpose of this research is to compare the beginners of algebra and pre-service teachers who completed secondary mathematics education in terms of understanding this paradoxical nature of parameters. We recruited 35 middle school students in eight grade and 73 pre-service teachers enrolled in a undergraduate course at one university. Using them we conducted a survey on the perception of the nature of parameters asking if one considers parameters suggested in a problem as variables or constants. We analyzed the collected data using the mixed method of qualitative and quantitative approaches. From the analysis results, we identified several difficulties in understanding of parameters from both groups. Especially, our statistical analysis revealed that the proportions of subjects with limited understanding of the concept of parameters do not differ much in two groups. This suggests that learning algebra in secondary mathematics education does not improve the understanding of the nature of parameters significantly.

  • The government and companies build a DDoS correspondence system hastily to protect assets from cyber threats. It has become more and more intelligent and advanced such as DDoS attack. However, when outbreaks of the social incidents such as 7.7 DDoS attack(2009.7.7) or cases of the direct damage occurred, information security systems(ISS) only become the issue in the short term. As usual, sustained investment about ISS is a negative recognition. Since the characteristic of ISS is hard to recognize the effectiveness of them before incidents occurs. Also, results of incidents occurred classify attack and detection. Detailed and objective measurement criterion to measure effectiveness and efficiency of ISS is not existed. Recently, it is progress that evaluation and certification about for the information security management system(ISMS). Since these works propose only a general guideline, it is difficult to utilize as a result of ISMS improvement for organization. Therefore, this paper proposes a framework to develop main criteria by a correspondence strategy and process. It is able to detailed and objective measurements.

  • This study intends to investigate how many LIS students take a interest in cultural programs offered by local libraries, and whether such a interest leads to actual participation in cultural programs. To the end, surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted on 2nd and 3rd year students from department of Library and Information Science in Busan. The result of this study shows low participation and passive attitude, even though LIS students fully recognize the importance of cultural programs in local libraries. The final suggestions include both educational strategies and practical guidance which might be helpful to attract voluntary participation from prospective librarians and to promote absorption of domain knowledge.

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose problems of the permanent judge system by examining the cases of practical running of the permanent judge system, and to provide basic materials for the settlement of fair and transparent judge culture. The findings of the case studies are as follows. First, the difficulties in selection, allocation, and education of judges caused by the operation of the permanent judge system. The problems in allocation are forceful allocation, conflict over allocation with general judges. The problems in evaluation are individual evaluation and limits of fairness, lack of evaluation rules. Second, the unpredictability of whether the permanent judge system survive or not. Third, there are some environmental constraints of the permanent judge system. Lack of protective apparatus is lack of rescue method and solution for intentional protest. Forth, there is a problem of low recognition of the permanent judge system. As the federation has been not active in publicizing the permanent judge system, the system is not well known.

The Relationship between Quitting Time and Subsequent Time Allocation of Full-time Workers in Korea (전일제 임금근로자의 퇴근시간과 일과 후 생활시간의 관계)

  • This study explored the relationship between quitting time and subsequent time allocation of full-time workers with young children. First, as a result of sub-group difference analysis of subsequent time allocation by quitting time, the group who finished their work early used their additional time mostly for housework and care work. And if the workers finish their work late, they decreased their housework and active leisure time first, and then supplementally reduced their care work and passive leisure time. In addition, SUR analysis showed that as the workers finish their work earlier, the proportion of housework, care work and active leisure among five activities was getting higher. Last but not least, it was verified that the relationship between the quitting time and the subsequent time allocation was moderated by gender in housework, care work, and regenerative activity. This research can contribute to the development of debate on work-life balance of workers' by providing the concrete and detailed results.
